For clarity, I took the liberty of labeling some of the games where the image didn’t have a clear indication of the name of the game, so you should be able to tell what the game is by either seeing the name clearly written on the box art itself or, if it’s in Japanese or contains no text on the art, then I have labeled it so it should be printed at the bottom. Hopefully it’s clear but if you run into a game cover that you want to vote for but don’t know what the game is called, reach out to me or post the image itself and I’ll get you the name.

So you can find the name of the game there as well, although I would highly encourage you to vote after looking through the actual images rather than just on name recognition. Some of the best art are from games I didn’t know existed.
The list above is in roughly the same order as they are in my imgbb album (from oldest to most recent), but not exactly. There was a little shuffling around of certain titles and I just can’t invest the time to make the list a 1:1 match with the images.
Rank the 20 into 4 groups with 5 titles in each group. Your top 5 will get 4 points, your next 5 will get 3 points, the next 2 points, and your last 5 will get 1 point each.
Here’s the catch — if you submitted nominations, you are only allowed to pick 10 titles from your own submissions. You must use the other 10 votes toward games that you did not submit.
(There were more than a few cases where multiple people submitted a title, but regardless, if it was a title you nominated, it counts as one of the five of “your own” nominations)
Obviously, you are not obligated to vote for any of your own submissions. You may use all 20 votes on other people’s titles if you want.
▶️ As a side note and word of caution — many games have multiple versions entered and there are many game series that have multiple entries. So try to be specific in those cases as to which game you are referring to (Lots of SMT game covers are in there, for example. I think there’s actually 3 versions of Persona 3 alone)
I’ll be the first to vote so you can see what I mean —
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
4 points:
Secret of Mana - Japan
Shadow of the Colossus (PS2) - Japan
Shin Megami Tensei (Nintendo Super Famicom)
Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower

2 points:
Shin Megami Tensei If - Japan - PS1
Majin Tensei 2 - Spiral Nemesis

Jet Set Radio JP
Wip3out
1 point:
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile - Japan Ver.
The Way of the Samurai 2
Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together PSP
Ghouls’N Ghosts - Mega Drive
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@mookysam Ooops... yeah, those should be combined. I tried to delete out all the repeats but missed that one. There will be others maybe too, and the title is just supposed to be in there once per cover art.
There is a couple of exceptions where I left two versions of the same cover art, where one has a slightly different cropping or text. I remember Secret of Mana being one and also Dragon Quest VIII. I will also combine the alternate covers in those cases during this phase. Then we can vote later on which text or cropping people want to push forward. But in the case of Sonic, the exact same art and version is in there twice. I’ll remove the lower res one from the photo album. Now down to 241 entries!
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Octane No problem. This phase of voting is to whittle the master list to a top 50, and then further from there until we have a winner. It’ll be more manageable after this phase.
Then the next round after we select our winner is to focus on the modern console generation, PS3 and PS4 era.
Feel free to jump in later if you’d like!
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@BearsEatBeets Thanks. It was fun to look over all the entries.
And I’ll leave voting open for the next few days. Probably through Monday or Tuesday. People may take their time over a few days to scroll through the pictures and make note of which they like.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Th3solution My word, you're a legend... right, okay... [cracks knuckles]...
I've tried to match my submissions with the exact wording you've used for your master list. That way, you can just Ctrl+F your way through adding up points. Hope this helps.

"We want different things, Crosshair. That doesn't mean that we have to be enemies."
@Th3solution Sorry but I forgotten to type in the full title for Tactics Ogre (Super Famicom) - Japan. It's Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together and I actually submitted both Super Famicom and PlayStation Portable covers.
I think there is too many to go through for an opening round. Maybe would have been better to break it down into picking your top 3 from a list of 20 or something - Group stages...
a few of my favourites from this though are Shadow of the Beast & Transartica - I love Rodney Matthews artwork, Conan - like Fantasy artwork, Doom - Iconic cover...
Trying to pick between some of them which are very similar or have 'iconic' status - like Batman, Spiderman, Star Wars, Indiana Jones etc isn't easy and some are just so similar that its almost a flip of the coin.
Anyway, I will watch the thread with interest to see what gets picked...
A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!
Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
@RogerRoger Thanks, sir! That might help. I’m just making things up as I go along. 😄
@BAMozzy Yeah, it’s a lot and maybe that would be a good approach for the next round that we’ll experiment with. Thanks for the feedback and if you still wish to vote (now or later) please do. Part of the challenge is the coordination of images. Mixing up the lists means mixing up images too. I can do that in theory, and I plan to create sub albums when we get to smaller lists to reference, but I just flat didn’t have the time to spend moving all the pictures around and creating sub lists and such. I figured one contiguous list also had its advantages to ease of seeing everything at once. When we get filtered to a smaller number then I’ll post the images directly in the thread and it will be much easier for the casual reader to make a choice.
— — — — — — —
But on the subject, some simple (and probably obvious) advice to those overwhelmed by the choices — open up a window for the imgbb picture album and then a separate window for a text document and simple scroll through the pics and record in the document each one you like as you go. When you get to the end, go back through for a second look to solidify your choices. Quickly scrolling through 250 pictures seems like a lot, but it took me like 20 minutes to analyze and make my choices. That can be accomplished in just a couple sittings on the toilet or a standard wait at the bus stop. Okay, maybe a little more than that, but it’s easier than it looks 😄
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@WanderingBullet No problem. I saw that, and it’s fine as long as people just specify, because the PSP art and Famicom art are different, despite the two titles being identical. Well, I voted for one of them, so obviously I took note!
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
Still feels overwhelming for me to be involved. I think maybe would have been better to limit 15 per person and only 1 per title, or something like that. And maybe not allowing separate ones just because they have a different font too would have thinned the pool a bit.
Still, hope everyone else enjoys voting!
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
@Th3solution I agree with @BAMozzy I think splitting this up into 2-4 rounds would be a good idea. It's just so many right now. I don't think we have too many, just breaking it down a little would help.
