Sorry to see so many familiar faces go! I don't think its helped that really this entire console generation has been so slow for PlayStation especially. I tend to game on PC as my primary platform, but buy the consoles for the exclusives, and as such I honestly don't think I have turned on my PS5 for months, and even before then if not for the Hoyoverse games God knows when I would have last switched my PS5 on honestly. Hopefully once Yotei comes out we might see more activity on here (as I think that has more wide appeal than say Death Stranding 2 did) but I guess just right now there isn't much to talk about with the only stuff coming out on PlayStation is just third party stuff people can play anywhere.
I think I'll also be taking a break. I've nothing against anyone here I just don't feel like I'm part of the current demographic and considering I spend so much on that industry, it's not a good feeling. There are only so many hours in the day and so many other things I should probably be doing. I'm kind of in an odd place where talking about games is putting me off wanting to play them, which I didn't think could happen. I spent a while over the weekend wiping comments and posts, seeing that many was the nudge I needed to take a step back.
Present company excluded - too many people have nothing but bad things to say about certain games/characters/even other gamers. I get that it's the internet but daily exposure to that kind of thinking does eventually create a kind of fatigue and it's rarely from regular posters, it's one time accounts using the platform to push politics/hate etc. That's one side of it, the other is seeing gamers putting other gamers down. I've seen too much real life conflict and unnecessary division, gaming is more than a hobby, for some people it's a genuine escape. There's always going to be an element that exists only to ruin and sabotage communities. The only way I found in the past (on other sites) to remove that kind of influence from my day is to remove myself from that site/App/etc and I think it's come to that. I'll keep my account and drop some likes on the gaming weekend thread (with Zul's models etc) but I think that will be about it.
@LtSarge Sorry to see you go! I'm unable to write anything nearly as eloquently as @Th3solution did, but I share their sentiment. Best wishes for all your endeavours and hopefully you'll feel like returning one day 🙂
@GirlVersusGame Glad to hear that you won't be completely gone, but still sad that I won't be able to read your interesting anecdotes about collecting media (and other exciting things) or your views on the various challenges of the industry. Best wishes to you 🙂
The Stellar Blade article regarding derrières that went up on Saturday @Pizzamorg. The comments and then the discussion that followed after about it in the site ideas thread is a factor in some of the people leaving the past two days.

I wasn’t even aware of the hubbub tbh. I thought something must’ve kicked off for so many people to leave all at once but had no idea. An article about the depiction of bums in Stellar Blade was never gonna be something that I’d think was worth clicking on. My mistake it seems 🤔
Thank you @HallowMoonshadow. Genuinely didn't even click on it to read it before now, so I had no idea this went down. Just read some of the comments and its rough indeed.
Sorry to see all the peeps leaving,. Enjoy the tennis, have a strawberry sandwich and hopefully we will see some of you return in time for the next bum article.
But I do agree that the discussion forum is oh so quiet, so much so that I rarely post and when I do it feels like I’m talking to myself, quite a few of my posts are VR related so that may indeed be the case.
@HallowMoonshadow Aha, that explains quite a bit. Sad that one unfortunate article led to such a huge amount of interesting people picking up the equivalent of their hat and leaving😕
Glad I didn't set foot in that particular hornet's nest (said foot typically occupies one's mouth instead), but, luckily, the subject matter was of no interest to me, so I never even thought to read the article (or comments)
Thanks for the info!
@CaptD I do wonder if the forum could do with a bit of amalgamating some threads or something. Like, do we need a what are you playing on PS5 and PS4 thread? I’m not sure so many sub forums are really needed to be honest and it fragments things somewhat.
@Thrillho Yeah, I've been thinking the same. While I personally wouldn't mind a single "What games are you playing" thread, I can see the validity of having a separate thread for non-PS games and maybe even one for PSx/2/3, but a separate thread for PS4 & PS5? Don't see the need; sometimes I'm even having trouble figuring out whether what I'm playing is considered a PS5 or PS4 game, even though I'm playing on PS5. Same with the game purchases threads.
I deleted my account in a lapse in judgment. Sometimes I'm a bit too impulsive. 🌞
Anyway, I agree the forum could use some cleaning up. I find it hard to find my way around here. An appointed curator or something would probably do wonders. There's probably one of us at least who'd be willing to put in the time.
To me it's totally fine the community is becoming a bit smaller. I've never been as active as some are on here, so I like being able to catch up every few days. But I can imagine it's frustrating if you're more of an active user. I also tell myself to post on here more often, and I wish I did. It's hard, though, I don't like typing from my phone and I don't use my laptop in the evenings. So I mostly post here in those liminal moments.
It's a shame to see some of the regulars leave, but its natural. I do wish people would just take a short time out instead, though. Do you really need to delete your account, never to return?!
As for me, I don't post here much because I am not gaming like I was a decade ago. But I still read regularly and pop in to see what you're talking about. And I still enjoy gaming as much as ever, I am just doing less of it through the week and I am not keeping up with the release cycles in the same way, so have far less input. Plus I feel like I struggle to articulate myself well these days.
I have really fond memories of playing Destiny until 2am together, Rocket League and the other multiplayer PS+ giveaways together with guys on here, though.
As for the website, there does seem to be more focus on articles for live service and gacha games which don't really interest me, but it's the way things are going and I guess some people are reading them. Also there seems to be more trashy articles designed to titillate, but perhaps that's just me.
@kyleforrester87 You’re one of the few still around that was here already when I arrived back in 2017 (Gremio and Ness being some of the others). There was a different vibe back then and I do miss some of the old guard. In addition to the online gaming get-togethers, the Megapolls were another great community activity that really made the forums feel like a group a mates hanging out and just chatting about random nerd culture. Of course when MCNoisy fell off, then a lot of that went by the wayside. And of course when Rog left, then the screenshot competition died as well, and the review thread has petered out, amongst many other things. I remember when I was welcomed to the forums it was known as “the last bastion of civility on the internet”, a title that I would argue still applies but has become harder and harder to justify.
I’ve been tempted to resurrect a large community poll or competition, but honestly I don’t have the time anymore. I fear engagement would be sparse anyway. And like you my core gaming output has dropped off and I rarely play games at launch, so it keeps me out of many of the conversations. But I likewise enjoy reading other people’s takes on games, even if I won’t get around to them until later down the road.
@Pizzamorg The blunted first party release schedule could have a lot to do with it, but honestly it feels like there’s more games than ever to discuss. Since a lack of games isn’t why activity has dwindled, perhaps it’s more of a dilutional effect from the avalanche of third party games and so there’s fewer games that really get any traction to make a buzz amongst a critical mass. People are spread out playing so many things at different times, with many of us still working through a PS4 backlog, and so staying topical is harder than ever.
I suspect another main reason for evaporating participation is the alternate forms of online discourse which now compete with the traditional forum format like this. Between Twitter, Reddit, Discord, etc. there’s other places people get drawn into to discuss their hobby. I prefer the forum approach where I can be more verbose if necessary, as opposed to the small and short blurts that social media drives. But it begs the question as to whether Push Square should evolve or modify the forum features to be more in line with what’s out there nowadays.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Th3solution I still can’t believe I thought it was “McNoisy” for so long until he started posting his music creations from Dreams but I blame it on his lack of capitalisation.
