@BowTiesAreCool well to be fair the location is underwater BUT your not swimming or anything your just in an underwater facility
besides you need to go there to get the Bahamut and Eden GF's and Eden is the best in the game

So as this a FINAL FANTASY thread i thought i would ask a question about everyone's habits when it comes to FF games and that is
are there any characters in FF games you NEVER use because lets be honest not EVERY character is a good one in fights, they might be great characters in their own right but in battle they are pretty worthless or perhaps there are other reasons why you choose not to use a certain character
anyway a good poster goes first so
Umaro FFVI, well that game had a large cast of which many were pretty useless but this guy was the worse of the bunch, he literally filled no role at all, he was just there
Aerith FFVII first off LET ME EXPLAIN i think Aerith is a brilliant character and really handy in battle too BUT knowing what happens later in the game i normally don't bother using her unless i have to as i don't see the point in using all that time building her up when i could be building up other characters instead
Amarant FFIX anyone who has played FFIX knows what i'm talking about, he brings literally NOTHING to the game at all
Hope FFXIII while he is handy at the start once you get access to everybody he becomes useless, all the roles he mains in EVERYONE else does better, Vanille is a better Healer, Lightning is a better Synergist and Snow is a better Saboteur
so those are mine how about you?

@Thrillhoto get the Black Materia, other than that nothing, he doesn't even get a level 3 limit break

To be fair, Cait Siths dice limit got me through Materia Keeper the first time I ever played as I was way under levelled and trapped at the save point just before him.
But generally I wouldn’t use him. I also don’t use Yuffie coz screw her. I don’t like Vincent either, his character design annoys me and his limits are rubbish.
Amarant in FF9 is pretty dull so I don’t bother with him. Quina has the cool blue magic (level 5 death for those pesky dragons) but otherwise I don’t bother with him/her either.
@kyleforrester87 i think Quina is only really handy on the way to cleyra because she/he can learn white wind and you don't have a white mage in your party at that point

@kyleforrester87 true but it certainly helps for some of the later areas

@FullbringIchigo As a general rule, I try to get utility out of every character in an RPG, but yeah, there are some stinkers sometimes. I'll list mine from every FF I played.
VII: Cait Sith. I booted him from my party when his limit break actually killed me (GREAT IDEA!). That alone was enough, but the brief time I used him, he just seemed like an unremarkable character. I got good use out of everyone else, so he wasn't missed.
VIII: Irvine. With my junction setups, it was just hard for me to get use out of him. Squall was my lynchpin, Zell was my damage dealer, and depending on who was available, my mage was either Selphie, Rinoa, or Quistis. Irvine just plain didn't fit and was essentially an extra body.
IX: Amarant. He was only useful when I gave him a poison weapon. Otherwise, he was an extra body. IX was actually where I was pretty strict with my team. By disc 4, I solely focused on Zidane, Garnet, Vivi, and Steiner. But even then, I did get use from Quina, Freya, and Eiko. Amarant was incredibly underwhelming.
X: Kimahri (Not sure if I spelled that right). I tried, but he wasn't able to catch up with everyone else when their abilities climbed up.
XIII: Once I hit the freedom part, I immediately dunked Lightning, Hope, and Vanille. Not because of utility, but because I was tired of their characters. Say everything you want about Snow, but I'd rather he was the hero than Lightning, who was outclassed in the female badass department by Fang. Sazh was my favorite from the game, and related and pitied him more than Hope and Vanille combined. XIII really could have used a better cast in my opinion.

@DerMeister one of the good things about the older FF games and FFXV is that with a limited team of 4 you get the most out of all the characters
and while IV had a large cast all of them felt good to use (even Edward) because they were always given to you at the time you needed them and they were balanced for the sections they was in

@FullbringIchigo Tidus and Yuna FFx - this is a strange one actually but during my last playthrough I again used the massive sphere grid and Tidus became a homogenised pussycat. Yunas initial white magic path is also compromised with locks and stuff. Auron and Wakka on the other hand were balls out beat down specialists having gone to the West of the grid early doors. I then used Lulu, Rikku and Kimari in 3rd depending on the situation (black magic/speed/white magic). The weird thing was at some point in the game you have to swim and you only have Tidus and Rikku - that sucked.

@themcnoisy i found with FFX if you complete the sphere grid the your characters become even less dynamic and just become the same as all the others so now when i play FFX i will take each character through the grid for stats BUT i will only teach characters ability's that are in their own starting grid, makes them more unique that way

@Thrillho i really like Zell in VIII, even if he is just a carbon copy of Tifa in terms of his moves and limits

@Thrillho I've always junctioned a bunch of Firaga to Zell's attack, and the result is a beast who can end a fight with his second turn. I've tried to get a decent build for Irvine, but he usually just ends up at last place for me. I've rarely seen his limit break, either. Kinda a shame because he seems like a good character otherwise.
