Topic: A travesty of justice. GameSpot 2013 GOTY.

I just want to express my feelings on something which I find so bad.

Liking something is fine. Hey, I like playing Angry Birds. That doesn't make it an outstanding game.

Don't get me wrong. Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is a great game.

But, is it REALLY the best game of 2013?

Does GameSpot mean to tell me that the STAND OUT Game of 2013. The one which sets the bar higher than others. The one which will be "remembered" most for many, many years is Zelda? No. No. No.

If you look at the character development, story, setting, atmosphere, replay value, A.I., graphics, soundtrack in games like The Last Of Us, BioShock Infinite and GTA V then you KNOW they are EXEMPLARY. They hit the highest echelon possible in gaming.

Zelda doesn't come near to what those games achieve. Character development? Non existent. Story? Minimal. Replay value? None after you complete the story. Graphics? Passable for a handheld game. Shall I go on?

The amount of hard work that goes into a new IP is far greater than that of an established IP. A new game engine has to be done from scratch. A story has to be written and has to create characters and develop them from start to finish. The narrative has to stretch throughout the story. The setting has to be just right. It can't be out of sync with the mood of the game. The enemy A.I. has to be in proportion to the "realism" of the game.

What hurts me the most is that by GameSpot giving Zelda GOTY they are DAMAGING the credibility and the justification for new IPs.

We gamers want new IPs. New experiences. New stories to be told. GameSpot wants none of that.

Naughty Dog gave us the most compelling, and arguably best game of the generation. It lost out to a handheld game. -___-

To ram my point home. GameSpot is telling me that The Last Of Us is weaker or barely on par overall to that of a yearly edition of COD?

8/10 for The Last Of Us and 9/10 for COD MW 2 and Black Ops. 8.5/10 COD MW 3. 8/10 COD: Ghosts.

Ok. I must be having a bad dream. Somebody wake me up...

People have different opinions and tastes. They felt that Zelda: A Link Beyween Worlds was the best game the of the year. Your getting upset becaue you personally don't agree with it, there is no travesty here. The travesty would be if if they have the award to another game because of marketing reasons for new IPs. They felt this was the best game of the year in their opinion so they said so, why are you so upset over that? They gave the award exactly how it should be given, it would be bad journalism if they did otherwise, espcially becaue it was popular opinion like you suggest should influence them.

Personally my GOTY was Beyond: Two Souls but I wont be seeing any publication handing out an award to it due to the type of game it is. Doesn't bother me in the slightest as it doesn't change the fact that it still my personal GOTY. You dont need justifcation from websites for that.

This doesn't come down to opinion.

Saying Zelda is GOTY is saying that it PWNS GTA V, BioShock Infinite and The Last Of Us.

Yeah. Maybe in another dimension where everyone is blind and deaf. Not here and now.

Zelda isn't the best game of 2013. Far from it. This IS a travesty of justice.

The fans disagree with their choice. Take a peek at GameSpot's own comments section. Take a look at the thumbs down for GameSpot's GOTY video on YouTube.

It's clear that I'm NOT the only one who feels this way.

I'm not hating on Zelda or Nintendo. I'm just saying it how it is. As always, you DISAGREE for the SAKE OF IT.

Of course, you're probably in THAT other dimension filled with blind and deaf people. Nothing "sensible" comes out from your mouth. Nor, do you see stupidity. Instead you ignore it.

P.S. Your backlog consists of Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. The only thing I see in flames are your nonsensical opinions. Wow. What a terrible game. Anyone who plays that pile of wreck shouldn't be taken seriously. I'll ignore your "opinions" from now on.

No matter what won the GS community would b*tch. It's what they do. GTA V is GOTY but they chose Zelda, an awesome game. No travesty at all.

Is that so? Why weren't people flipping out when Journey won GOTY last year? It beat out The Walking Dead and Halo 4.

Zelda is the same game it was since Ocarina of Time. Nothing new to the table.

The Last Of Us, GTA V and BioShock Infinite are far better. Heck, Ni No Kuni and Puppeteer PWN Zelda. More originality in those games.

Nobody is saying Zelda is rubbish. It's a great game. GOTY? Not in a million years. GameSpot is a joke.

I don't think this thread is really necessary. There's already a much more polite discussion about this going on elsewhere. As always, it's fine to disagree -- but please can we be friendly about it. That's primarily aimed at you, RisefromAshes.
