@Th3solution Absolutely loved "Detroit Become Human" (I'm a lifelong Quantic Dream apologist) and I'm sorry to tell you that NWtD is absolutely nothing like it (or the investigative work in the Arkham games, for that matter). Now I'm starting to feel bad for continuously dashing your hopes for NWtD... but, while it was a disappointment, I didn't feel like it was a complete waste of time or money, so that's a plus, right?
@Th3solution I concur with @Herculean, "Obra Dinn" is excellent and definitely worth a go (need to pick that back up... played it a bit on Steam before deciding to get it on PS5 and then it just fell into the backlog). I have also briefly tried "Case of the Golden Idol" and found it very intriguing, so I will revisit that one in the near future as well (good grief, there are just too many games!)
@FuriousMachine I’m a big QD apologist too, so you’re among friends! (Or at least a friend 😄)
I really should get around to Beyond Two Souls. Every time I go to start it, I can’t decide whether to play it in chronological order or in the original format, so I just end up never starting. Have you played it?
But yes, Detroit, Heavy Rain, and Fahrenheit were all great, but DBH is definitely their magnum opus.
And no worries about any dashing of my hopes. I honestly would probably play NWtD regardless, because it is a genre that is hard to keep in stock in my library. Partially because they don’t make a ton of these narrative games (as opposed to action games, RPGs, etc which are a dime a dozen) and also because they tend to be short so I can burn through them fairly quickly and they usually don’t have any replay value (QD games excluded). So I always like to keep a few of these on deck. NWtD sounds like it will hit like my current narrative game, Lost Records. A game that is mediocre by any objective standards and has tedious gameplay between the interesting story points, and yet I enjoy it in the same way I enjoy having a bag of Cheetos to snack on between larger more satisfying meals. I have no doubt that NWtD will fill in that same role nicely when I need my next one.
And thanks for the suggestion of Obra Dinn. One to keep a watch for. I think I see it often included in sales (although not in the current one) so I’ll wait for a price drop.
And, yes! People who say we don’t have anything to play on our PS5 are delusional!

@Th3solution Ooh, definitely get on "Beyond Two Souls", highly underrated! I absolutely loved it and I would recommend playing it in the original format. I've never tried playing it chronologically, but I remember thinking the way the story unfolded was very satisfying, so I can really vouch for that option. Excellent cast, too (as has become usual with QD titles)
As I say, the setting as dystopian ideas they use are really interesting and the dialogue is good fun with some options for a bit of creativity, with some dialogue options locked behind previous dialogue decisions and in game decisions.
If it had been a purely interactive visual novel it could have been great!
@Th3solution I'm not known for having taste, but Beyond Two Souls turned me from a Quantic Dream apologist into a doubter ten years ago or so, or whenever it released. I never played the I Robot game though!
@Th3solution We're not on opposite sides of the detective spectrum. I love a good detective story, even when the gameplay is just move from A to B like some of them. What's the Yakuza spin-off one called again?
However, I also like the pure thrill of solving a mystery, even without any form of further plot present. To find out whodunnit myself is kind of thrilling.
The spectrum:
Left - Disco Elysium, all story, no actual detective work
Middle: the Sherlock Holmes games, which combines both somewhat!
Right - Case of the Golden Idol, all mystery solving, less plot driven
@FuriousMachine@Herculean Oh no! Fascinating contradictory views! 😂
I really will need to make my own assessment it seems. And the glacial speed with which Quantic Dream are developing that narrative Star Wars game, I should have plenty of time to play BTS before they have their next game out. 😄
But seriously Herc, you should give Detroit Become Human a try. Unfortunately I don’t know how it compares to BTS, but for me it was a big evolutionary jump from Heavy Rain. The branching storylines and outcomes are really much more fleshed out. I think we had a thread going on for the game back in 2018 or so and people were comparing their stories and endings and most of us all got different endings. Graphically the game was jaw dropping at the time, although the rest of the industry has caught up with it now.
If I’m not mistaken, Detroit was given away by Sony for one of their Play at Home promotions or with the PS5 PS+ catalogue. You might already own it.
Edit: and I think you were thinking of Judgement and Lost Judgement.
Just bought A Short Hike (Technically PS4 game but it's on my PS5 so whatever) and my phone informed me I received a couple of PS Stars points for doing so...
Checked the current campaigns and got another 100 points for booting up a couple of games from my library. Had a look at rewards catalogue and saw I was a couple of hundred points off a free fiver...
Checked my wishlist and then purchased Pacific Drive and World of Horror.
So essentially I just spent an extra £25 to get a free £5...
I'm not sure if I've just scammed myself!
Oh well - they were at least games I was interested in and my wishlist is now a bit smaller ever if my backlog is a bit bigger.
@JohnnyShoulder ah, Fifa is the real analogue killer, for me, as there's a LOT of left stick movement in all directions. I will go on a normal game and wonder why my character is wandering off to the side, and that's when I know it is too late 😭
Still, it's best to bless each new controller in this way to extend its life with the gaming gods 😁
When it seems you're out of luck.

@Ravix I hear Call of Duty is big killer of sticks. I don't play that and not played Fifa or Pro Evo {or whatever it is called these days) for a couple of years now.

@JohnnyShoulder@Ravix I’ve been lucky too with my PS5 controllers. My OG DualShock 4 that came with my launch PS4 got mild stick drift there at the end. But all 3 DualSense have been ok.
I wonder if the issue is games that use the R3 and L3 presses a lot. It always feels unnatural to be pressing down while also using the stick to move. I’m having trouble with that in BG3 because I constantly spam the R3 to highlight items I can interact with. Hope I’m not wearing out my DualSenses.

Just picked up Cat Quest 3 and Red Dead Redemtion (PS4) in the sale to top my Stars rewards up enough to redeem £5 credit. Sounds silly to spend £40 to earn £5… but they’ve been on my wishlist for ages and were both reduced 40%, so it seemed like the right time to finally pull the trigger.
Today’s the last day you can earn reward points btw.
@Th3solution this is the one nice benefit I've found since switching to the Pro controller. Back buttons are my R3 L3 clickys for most games, and I didn't realise just how much I disliked the analogue click until I no longer had to do it and felt the relief of the back buttons' smooth action. I play a lot of games that use analogue clicks too, mostly for crouch/sprint. But BG3 oh man, the pro controller is next level, I can jog around clicking my back button to bring up hidden items near constantly which I barely bothered with before as it was so clicky and horrible to do. P
Plus I have a couple of extra analogue in a drawer for the inevitable drift. And if I don't get drift I can sell them as they are like gold dust 😂
@graymamba I have literally just done this very thing, except I picked up: Red Dead Redemption 2 (sold my old disc so wanted it digitally) Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (need a reason to play this game again, and a lot of people have recommended this DLC as a great spy thriller on its own merits)
And I also Pre-Ordered FC26 because i'm an absolute idiotic sadist 😭 but the last day of free credit is nice, and it helps ease the pain of admitting my continued idiocy.
@graymamba
Haha. Glad it wasn't just me that couldn't resist the final free fiver (see above post). Keep telling myself that they were games that I wanted and at a good price but I'm not sure I can convince myself.
... As for yours, I did enjoy the previous Cat Quest games but not sure I'd pay more than a couple of quid for them. 3 will probably hit that point eventually. Haven't played the original RDR in maybe a decade, remember having way to much fun in the in undead nightmare zombies expansion thing.
