@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN RE4 is still going really well; still very enjoyable. I’m still at Chapter 3, so not much progress this week. Only spent a few hours yesterday and got stuck on the new shooting gallery activity.

The more I play it the more I find it to be a really good hybrid experience that balances the older survival horror with the more modern run-n-gun shooters. You can’t just shoot with unrestrained abandon like you can in an Uncharted game or other third person shooters, but yet the shooting aspects are much more developed and elaborated such that you can let loose much more than in prior RE games. I’ve had a decent enough supply of ammo so far and haven’t felt the need to severely ration it. It all evens out really well whilst keeping that RE survival horror feeling to it with all the random puzzles and keys you have to find to unlock points of progress.

I was happy to see you cleared Gyoubu and that the combat is really clicking. It sounds like in place of farming to become OP, spending time doing a boss over and over does make you OP in terms of skills acquired to beat the boss.

Okay, the more hours I’ve put into Unicorn Overlord the more I absolutely love it. The entire game is so addicting, especially party management. There is just so much content, and it never gets tiresome. I’m glad I finally gave this game a proper shot.

You will improve your own skill in the game naturally by the playing the game, and the more you face enemies you will get to know their movesets more. But there isn't really a way to make your character OP in the game.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

@JohnnyShoulder @Th3solution Whilst you may not be able to get OP in the traditional 'Soulsian' sense, I did get the option of increasing my attack power after defeating Gyoubu, which I took full advantage of.

@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN Yeah you can level up certain stats at certain points in the game. That won't make you OP though and you can't do it over and over. It is more like leveling the playing field a bit for you, as the enemies will get harder in the next section.

@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN while you can’t really farm xp, you can farm for mats later in the game… so you will be able to get your metaphorical ‘agriculture &/or animal-husbandry’ kicks in some regards at least 😉

I have been playing Forspoken this past week and I am really enjoying it. I think I am close to the end now and something I probably wouldn't have played if it was not on PS Plus

Update on Unicorn Overlord - this game may crack my top ten list of all time, when it’s all said and done. What a phenomenal game, with so much depth, beautiful art, incredible combat, a wide variety of abilities and compositions, and a pretty solid story.

Finished up Forspoken last night. I really enjoyed it. The combat and movement were really fluid and the story was not as bad as critics made it out to be.

I have now moved onto Sackboy: A Big Adventure. I find this fun to play on my Portal. It looks stunning when streaming through PS Plus.

I did some farming for 1,000 sen to buy a gourd seed in Sekiro, w/out dying once, so perhaps the combat is really beginning to click after all. Feeling more confident about the next miniboss, Blazing Bull. Famous last words, perhaps. May be time to eat humble pie later, but oh well, I'm optimistic for now.

I defeated the next miniboss, Blazing Bull, in Sekiro, employing a strategy that made the boss fight somewhat easier for me to handle, then it was a piece of cake, after about an hour of struggling this morning!

@Th3solution You'll be pleased to know, as a merciful thread of fate, that "cheesing" is available on at least some bosses in Sekiro, I accidentally stumbled onto a cheese strategy against a miniboss I was struggling against earlier, that made it infinitely easier! ,subsequently allowing me to beat it with little to no trouble at all! How is/are your game(s) going?

Did you get on to Rebirth yet?

Edit: Just saw your comments in the RE4 REmake Thread, seems you're making good progress there, my friend. I know what it's like to abandon a game, return to it and then get past the point where you abandoned it, I've done that with every Souls game I've played and recently got past the part where I quit in Sekiro, it's a great feeling of achievement!

@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN Ah, yes — always love a good cheese. 🧀

I am really having a great time with RE4. It’s very satisfying to make it further than before and have much more fun doing it without having to fight the controls the whole time.

Almost put this in the "what PS3 games are you playing" thread 👀

Sniper Elite Resistance. I assume it's an indie or an AA? As it doesn't seem to have changed much since I last saw the series many, many, many moons ago.

I think it's kind of a fun and addictive gameplay loop though. Being a stealthy sniper went out the window fairly early as I decided I was going to kill every last nazi on the map and wanted to practice by taking everyone out that I could see. I used mostly the rifle, but at times they knew it was coming, let's say 😂

Update:

So it is a pretty satisfying gameplay loop, indeed. And thankfully it is rather generous with saves, as I hate run-backs, but I do like to experiment with hairbrained ideas 😁

I went and got the 3 gold stars on my first jaunt through level 2, including the rat bomb which I was planning to set as a trap, exit and shoot from a ledge somewhere at just the right time, but had the thing self-detonate so I just had to run away through the tunnels as I was still in the building at the time!

The MC 'Harry Hawker' 😅 reminds me of my atrociously East End-accented Saints Row MC though, so I'm kind of thinking it needs to be RP'd as a Saints Row time travel game, where my old Boss is stuck in 1944 and has to kill 100,000 Nazis to get back to the future? 🤷‍♂️

It's a decent enough game and fun can be had with it, so hats off to them

Up against the next miniboss in Sekiro. Haven't defeated him yet but he isn't giving me too much trouble, and I just Googled the best strategy to use against him. Hope that info helps the next time I challenge him!

Well, I beat and got the platinum for Unicorn Overlord this morning. Near the end I was skipping most of the dialogue, but it was still an excellent game for roughly 60 hours. I’m now playing Mafia: Definitive Edition on classical difficulty. It’s a great game, but damn is that racing mission brutal. I’ve gotten second or third place several times, but I mess up once and I’m screwed. Nonetheless, it doesn’t seem too unbearable. Once I get past that hurdle, I think the platinum will be pretty straight forward.

Th3solution

@Kraven I was looking to play the Mafia series some time soon, or at least try the first game and see how it goes. Are you liking the game overall? Do you think you’ll proceed and play Mafia II and III?

@Th3solution I am enjoying it quite a bit. The writing and voice acting is top notch, and really brings the story to life. The Illinois/Chicago setting in the 1930’s is really interesting as well. The only true blemish on the game would be its archaic gunplay and combat. It’s not bad, but it’s not great either — just serviceable. It’s definitely worth a play.

I don’t know if I’ll play Mafia 2. I’ve already played Mafia 3. In fact, that was my entry point into the series. The game has a ton of flaws, but it was fun. I doubt I’ll replay it, though. I’m just trying to get reacquainted with its world before Old Country releases.

@Kraven congrats on the Unicorn Overlord plat, I’ve only actually played 13 Sentinels out of Vanillaware’s catalogue but I loved it… I keep meaning to try another one of their games.

I remember the Mafia race on Classic difficulty well… you’ll get it eventually. It is annoying but find little incremental time-saves at various points around the track and be able to slot them all-together for a winning run.
