@KAIRU@Th3solution I can see one of the problems with Death Stranding being that the first part of the game is the worst bit for “walking simulator” as you have so little kit for the first deliveries and have to do everything on foot.
Once you open up more gear, vehicles etc (and especially after making it to the “main” map) that becomes less of an issue.
Finished Sonic Frontiers today and I really enjoyed my time with it, its a bit odd in that you can go fishing instead of playing much of the game but the controls work well and I liked the story too, particularly how Robotnik is portrayed. The islands were a little inconsistent in their design with a couple being much more enjoyable than the others and I'd say this is the foundations for which they should build upon going forward, just make the world a bit more visually interesting to explore and give more reasons to engage in combat.
Now back on God of War Ragnarok and I'm about 5 hours in and I'm liking it, not so much so the reviews though that could change, there's something about the combat that I don't quite click with but the story is really good
… I’ve been playing one single player game at a time for the last month, instead I’m of jumping between games and I’m finding that I’ve been enjoying games a lot more this way.
That’s the way I try to game tbh… sometimes I do stray into having two games on the go at the same time but not often. And yeah, since I started playing games this way I’ve enjoyed them far more.
@RogerRoger That sounds like a sensible first impression. A contradictory sort of game, as I expected.
But if it’s like Souls games or Returnal, it’ll get its hooks in you when the combat and the mechanics become less confounding, and pretty soon you’ll be leveling the museum lady in a few short moves.
But yeah - it does seem like there’s a movement toward increased difficulty in games. But honestly, I’m finding FromSoft, Returnal, God of War, etc. to be miles easier than my short time with Sonic the Hedgehog. 😂 Not to mention Hitman; For me that game was quite difficult and frustrating. I think you are a more skilled gamer than you give yourself credit for! 😄
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@RogerRoger I'm not saying you have to switch to it, but they did put in basically an Easy difficulty level in. I was put off by it's difficulty, so I never tried it, but I likely would have after that update if I didn't already have so much else to play.

@RogerRoger yeah we are in this weird time where people rightfully push for and applaud accesibilty for all games yet also want every game to be overly difficult because from soft has send a trend.
it's annoying.
it's also leaking over to youtubers. with them always stating in a thumbnail that they are playing on the hardest difficulty as if that will give them more views lol.
people always complain that every game is open world these days but tbh i have that problem with all those souls like games. there are so many of them that turned to that formula that just don't need to do that. it's realy becoming a turn off for me.
Finished Gungrave G.O.R.E and have now moved onto Psychonauts 2. I’ve been playing one single player game at a time for the last month, instead of jumping between games and I’m finding that I’ve been enjoying games a lot more this way.
This is how I've always gamed (don't do multiplayer). I find it hard to get deeply engrossed into a game's story, world, and characters if I'm juggling multiple ones.
When the game's third boss (museum lady) shaved a decade off my rapidly-shortening lifespan and asked me, "Why do you get back up?" I replied out loud with something along the lines of "I'm the player character, you [redacted] of a [very redacted]! You're supposed to stop attacking and LET ME WIN!!"
This whole modern craze of making games a challenge needs to end.
All of this so much, I'm terrible at harder difficulties and usually end up hating the games. Not to mention I don't have the time anymore to invest in 10s or hundreds of hours to "git gud".
I also find myself rarely attempting New Game+ anymore or replaying at all. My limited time on this earth is better spent starting new games as far as I'm concerned.
@RogerRoger It's fine. Your experience was actually helpful, and confirms what the person said who wrote the article here about the Student difficulty. It makes it easier, but it can still kick your butt. Knowing that it can still get pretty frustrating will just make it easier for me to continue to skip the game, which is fine since there's a ton of other games to play. I understand that most games have frustrating portions in them no matter what, but a game being designed for you to fail constantly is not my thing. It's why I will never play a Souls or Rogue game either.

Of course, this'll be the point where you turn around and say that you only started playing FromSoft games a couple years ago, and that you'd never picked up a digital broadsword before then!
@RogerRoger Well, that’s kinda true, at least the recent entrance into the From fold, but I have been a classic fantasy fan since I was a wee lad. So I’ve been interested in the genre, which has helped pull me through the learning curve. Like we’ve mentioned before, interest in the core franchise or genre carries a lot of weight. 😄
And to be frank — I’ve played my FromSoft games in the easiest way possible, with guides, videos, advice, and by grinding and over-leveling so I can breeze through in a pseudo easy mode. I guess Sifu doesn’t allow you do do that?
@KAIRU@Nitram2k11 There's some very enjoyable moments in Vermintide. I do like the wave mechanic where it gives you a bit of a breather before unleashing more hostiles upon you. Like you mentioned the game play isn't that complex but it delivers and there's a good range of abilities between all the characters. Looking forward to playing more soon.
I'm currently replaying The Last of Us Part 2 on the PS5 and as a testament to Naughty Dogs ability it looks as good as any game I've played on Sony's next gen machine, in fact probably better than most. Pretty graphics aside its still a fine game with much improved gameplay over the original and for me at least a better story too and probably my favourite Sony exclusive overall.
I'm just at the semi open world part of Seattle at the moment and I'm going to settle in and enjoy playing this again, though this time at 60fps and then I might even get back round to God of War
Older than I care to remember but have been gaming since owning a wooden Atari 2600 and played pretty much everything inbetween.
@RogerRoger That’s good to know. I’ll still keep Sifu in the back of my mind, but like you, Kung-fu isn’t exactly a passion of mine, rather a passing interest. Perhaps a future inclusion into PS+ will be the lowering of barrier to entry that it will take for me to give it a whirl.
Speaking of, I didn’t see your post here until after I had replied on the other thread about ME Legendary Edition and my desire to play it but lack of free time, and I see your post to KidB you understand my distress at having too much to play and not enough time. 😄. Great minds and all that.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@carlos82 I agree — TLoU2 is quite a technical achievement. I had initially been tempted to wait for the inevitable PS5 port, but finally ran out of patience and found that the game amazingly puts many PS5 games to shame visually speaking. People can say what they will about Naughty Dog, but there’s no denying they are peerless in the technical aspects of PlayStation development. (And I’d even argue in the art design and storytelling departments too, although that’s more debatable)
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@KidBoruto Whilst I do enjoy replaying favourites and making use of NG+ modes to do so, I agree that free time (or lack thereof) is often an issue. More and more we see folks complaining about large backlogs and the embarrassment of riches afforded by PS Plus Extra and Xbox Gamepass, and yet the trend of designing next-to-impossible, punishing games that demand hours upon hours of practice to perfect continues to grow in popularity. It's like, how to you balance that?
Agreed so much. I miss the days when games were still fun/challenging, but didn't take 50+ or hundreds of hours to beat. Also yes this does apply to JRPG/WRPGs as well.
@Kidfried it's an interesting debate this one, I personally never found Elden Ring to be that difficult and I don't really consider myself that good a gamer. I think you're right in that the vast majority of games are beatable for most skill levels, that said I also see no real reason why the likes of Souls games can't have an easier option for those that want it. Back to The Last of Us 2 that I'm currently playing and you can go from one extreme to the other difficulty wise and with many accessibility options for those that need them.
Overall there are certainly plenty of games to play for all types of players and I don't feel there's a genuine push to more difficult games overall.
As for the backlog debate I do feel so many games today are on the long side and these days I really pick and choose what I'm playing and almost never bother with games from PS Plus. I've also learned to not be bothered about just leaving a game if I'm not feeling it and just play what I fancy rather than thinking of it as a list of games I have to check off
Older than I care to remember but have been gaming since owning a wooden Atari 2600 and played pretty much everything inbetween.
@Th3solution yeah completely agree, Naughty Dog are the pinnacle of Playstation gaming and I'd certainly put their storytelling right up there. Some don't seem to like the story of TLOU2 but you can't argue that its a brave choice. It would have been easier to have Joel and Ellie have some more adventures together but I much preferred the direction they took and I'm not sure if you've finished it but I won't forget the feeling of returning back to the theatre as Abby for quite some time after the actions of Ellie. Plus it was good to see the balance of the perspective of the other side, rather than just the protagonist you happen to play as and see you'renot necessarilyin the right. My only gripe is it perhaps didn't need that extra little part as Ellie at the end and could have just finished with Abby finding the fireflies signal instead
Has anyone else here played Severed Steel on PS5? It's currently on sale on the PS store and it's some of the most fun I have ever had with a first person shooter. I'm not the biggest fan of the art style or the soundtrack but the gunplay, the movement, the environmental destruction and the slow-motion mechanics are just chefs kiss
@PegasusActual93 i became aware of it shortly before the game came out and have been interested in getting it at some point since. It seems to be something different than your typical FPS, but I just haven't had any real openings to play it with my backlog and now the beginning of a huge glut of releases. I did see it was on sale, so I may pick it up soon at least.

@KilloWertz
It's not a long game, you can breeze through the campaign in a couple hours which makes it a great in between of other titles, plus there is a new game + mode that actually introduces a lot to the experience because it adds many more enemies which changes up the combat significantly. There's also a horde style mode if that is your thing.
