@Kairu @KidBoruto That sounds Idyllic, I'd also eliminate the need for sleep so that you had even more time.

Don't know about being a kid again though. Both childhood and adulthood have their pros and cons.

God of War is insanely good. I was expecting a great game but this is on another level.

I had a very similar thought to Sol @RogerRoger in that I'm glad you're having a ball with Sonic Frontiers and that it's been recieved rather warmly despite a few quibbles people have with some choices (like the pop in).

I've seen a couple of videos on it and it does actually look really good compared to some of the previous titles.

It's actually the first time I've heard Sonic's gaming voice since ... 2007/8? So I'm still used to game sonic being voiced by Jason Griffith with that bit of 00's 'tude. Though the sombre tone of the game might be making Roger Craig Smith's performance a bit more subdued 😄

I picked up the Atari 50th anniversary collection and it's comfortably the best presented retro collection I've seen and should be the standard going forward. As for the games I still enjoy 2600 games but sadly there are many missing 3rd party and licensed ganes across its systems. That said the likes of Tempest 2000 and their arcade games are still fun to play.

The reimagined classics are probably the star of the show with Haunted House being a highlight for me as a kind of the original survival horror game, then VCTR-SCTR which rotates stages inspired by Asteroids and Tempest amongst others.

I'm also really enjoying Sonic Frontiers, currently on the third island and when I'm done I'll get stuck into Ragnarok

Older than I care to remember but have been gaming since owning a wooden Atari 2600 and played pretty much everything inbetween.

I downloaded the FFXIV trial on an alt account so here I am back in Eorzea. It's still as fantastic as I remember although the xp boost is a little too much because I quite like the grind. Wish I could turn it off.

Tried Warzone 2 and it’s rubbish. Incredibly unstable, kicked me out of several games plus it’s just not fun. That’s the kicker, it’s basically Fortnite minus any fun.

Plumbing’s just Lego innit. Water Lego.

Currently on episode 6 of Death Stranding. Finding the story interesting and finding the gameplay loop of delivering packages to be relaxing.

I've been playing God of War: Ragnarok (PS5), still in the realm of the Dwarves sadly. I have a bad habit of getting distracted often.

Hoping to have it beaten by December, so I can focus on Callisto Protocol and Crisis Core FF7.

@JudgeDredd @RogerRoger Haha! Love the screenshot. Why am I suddenly interested in this game now? 😅

@Th3solution I'm starting to feel the same listening to all the chatter about it. @RogerRoger and @JudgeDredd are doing a good job selling it and several times I've almost pressed the buy button, my only worry being the amount of time I'd have to sink into it 🤔

@render Yeah, although I think @JudgeDredd ‘s time investment is an anomaly, howlongtobeat does confirm it’s a 100+ hour game. That will probably deter me for a while. On the plus side, it does seem like a game that can be easily jumped in and out of and played alongside other games. Of course I already have one of those right now with GT7.

God of War Ragnarok. A few hours in and I'm enjoying it so far. Atreus is definitely better this time around so far. I do have to agree with @KAIRU on the combat so far already though. It's good for the most part, but during the initial battle with Thor, the fact that you couldn't dodge some of the attacks was annoying. I know the game actually says that, but it's still annoying. I'm probably going to hate the stunlocking too.

Overall, I'm still looking forward to playing more. The story and characters are definitely the strengths so far.

@KAIRU Yeah, I'm pretty sure I will since it's really good almost from the start.

I doubt it will be a 10/10 game or a GotY contender for me, but the story alone should be able to carry it for me unlike the first game. Well, the story was fine, but Atreus was a central part of that one too. Anyways, at least we get the Blades of Chaos early on, making it feel more like God of War to me until something happens in the combat to piss me off.

I'm sure some people would say this is a typical PlayStation exclusive where it has a really good cinematic story but mediocre gameplay. It wouldn't be the first one to have a better story than gameplay, but I wouldn't go that far either.

@KAIRU Yeah, I'm not going to knock people if they loved it that much either. Almost everybody loved the first one and I didn't, but that doesn't make them wrong of course. Technically we are both in the extreme minority for me not loving the first one and you not thinking Ragnarok is a 10/10.

I guess your issues with the gameplay were similar to my issues with Atreus from the first one, where it really hurt the game but not to the point where we didn't still enjoy each of them. I did nearly stop playing the first one Atreus really turns into a ridiculous brat, leading to him betraying Kratos and getting himself kidnapped. Something had to be good enough to get me to keep going though, so obviously I still found it to be enjoyable enough otherwise. I do expect to like Ragnarok better than the first one simply because I fully expect to enjoy the story a lot more.

@KAIRU There was a discussion about that on here a little while back and I forget what I said then. I would say both are important to me. Obviously if a game has absolutely horrible gameplay, I'm not sure I'd be able to make it through it even if it had a great story. Maybe, but I have my doubts. I would say long games definitely have to have a really good story.

Some PlayStation exclusives have better gameplay than others, but generally excel nicely in the story department given their cinematic nature. That is a big reason why I prefer PlayStation over the other consoles (even though I own all 3), so you could say I prefer story over gameplay, but gameplay still matters too. Days Gone probably has a good/great story, but parts of the game being exactly like The Last of Us early on turned me off (the icons for items you pick up being identical and the workbench being pretty much identical too). I didn't care for the gameplay of Breath of the Wild either, which is a game I've obviously never finished, but would have tried harder despite the paper thin story if I liked the gameplay better.

@KAIRU Yeah, I wasn't really knocking them as a whole. Not every game of their's hits with me, but obviously easily enough for me to stick with PlayStation as my main platform. A big reason why is because of the great storytelling (most of the time) and attention to detail, but obviously that would only go so far if the games themselves actually sucked. Sure, there are probably some games at there that have better gameplay, but a lot of their games are such good overall packages.

I actually forgot the other PlayStation exclusive I was going to mention in my previous post, so I went with another game that qualified. I actually was fine with the weapon breaking for the most part, but I found the controls to be a bit convoluted, although I know I'm also in the minority there.

The other game was supposed to be Death Stranding. The story is fairly weird, but I actually didn't mind that. I just found the gameplay and the gameplay loop to be too repetitive for me to stick with it. At least when I tried it a couple of months ago. I may go back to it someday, as I prefer not to have many unplayed games if I can help it, but obviously I won't go back to a game if I don't have the time or really disliked it.

@KAIRU It depends on how much you get into the delivery planning and the building of things (bridges, roads, etc.) Obviously some people here loved it, but it didn't quite work for me the first time around. Like I said, I may go back to it someday, but who knows. It is definitely a gorgeous game with great audio.

@KAIRU To say Death Stranding is just a walking sim is like saying a Ferrari is just a car. I mean it’s kind of true I guess, so yeah, I guess you could make that argument, but it undersells what it really is. It’s probably like saying Elden Ring is just an action game. 😜

The walking sim/hiking sim part is some of the core gameplay, but there is third person shooting, stealth, online construction and asynchronous community co-op, substantial narrative aspects and cut scenes, boss fights, resource management, vehicles to drive and utilize,… all coated in a thick layer of Kojima eccentricity. Voice acting is great, the music is next level awesome, and the graphics and art design are jaw dropping at times.

Did I sell you on it yet? 😅

But seriously, I’m mostly kidding because the game is definitely niche and not for everyone. I really like a good walking sim from time to time for the chill factor, so maybe I’m not a good judge, but to me this isn’t really what I call a walking sim like Dear Esther, Virginia, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, or even What Remains of Edith Finch (which I think is slightly more than walking sim too, but just barely). The traversal in the early hours of Death Stranding will feel like a complex hiking sim as you learn to carry and balance your load and use your tools to traverse mountains and chasms, but after a few hours your toolset keeps growing to make it always fun and interesting to get from point A to point B (while engaging in stealth combat along the way and hoping not to lose your load).

It’s one of my favorite games of last generation, as you can tell. 😄 So I’ve almost certainly oversold it.
