@GirlVersusGame Happy to read of your enjoyment with Miles Morales. A lot of people think it’s the best game of the three, for many of the reasons you’ve mentioned. If you like the character Miles then you’ll probably also still enjoy Spider-Man 2 because he’s prominent and playable in that game as well.

I might have missed it elsewhere, so apologies if you’ve already mentioned this, but how many of the Spidey movies have you watched? I went into the games having already watched all the ‘modern’ MCU movies (Homecoming, Far From Home, No Way Home) as well as having seen the first two Toby Maguire movies years ago, as well as the new animated shows - Into the Spiderverse and then Across the Spiderverse. So I had the film foundation to fall back on. The games differ from the films on many things, and the film series differ from each other too, and then the comics even more so. I saw that you’ve done some reading of the graphical books and comics but can’t remember if you said you’ve watched the movies. If not, I highly recommend the two ‘Spiderverse’ animated movies. They’re outstanding in my opinion. If you’ve not checked those out then consider them if/when you’re not too ‘Spidey fatigued’, as I know you might want a break from the IP after your recent gaming and reading. But when you’re ready, those two movies are easily my favorite Spider-Man shows.

@GirlVersusGame That's the game, yup! I didn't even make the connection that there's a character called Kat as well, haha. She's my favourite so far for what it's worth, so you're in luck. It does have some Stranger Things vibes as you correctly surmised, and it is indeed an analog VHS-type recorder! There's always an old-timey filter over the footage. If you enjoyed Life is Strange, it's certainly worth a shot if it appeals to you at all. Maybe you'll connect with this all the same if not more than myself. I hope the Spider-Man DLC treats you well! I remember enjoying it back when I played it. It's the only game I've fully platinum'ed as well (if we're not counting the Telltale games that just gift you platinums for no effort at all).

@Th3solution I haven't made much progress on Lost Records these last few days as I've been finishing up Star Ocean, but decent sounds as right a description as any thus far. I suppose I'll temper my expectations that it goes any wild and better places from here and just enjoy it for what it offers. I have enjoyed the choice and consequence bits they've offered so far as well as the general dialogue options. I hope that I'll have the same experience where Swann will grow on me eventually! I'm excited to see more of the present-day stuff and see more of the old gang show up at the bar.

Glad to see you're enjoying the Silent Hill 2 Remake so far as well! It's a very well made game that I'd say (mostly) lives up to the hype. I've read your post on it on the other thread as well... and I will simply refrain from making any comments on it to preserve your fresh experience! It's on the longer side for a survival horror, so I expect you'll take a little bit to get through it still. Either way, I'll be very interested to hear your thoughts when you get around to finishing it. I wonder with how impressed you've been with this one whether you'll enjoy the Silent Hill 1 Remake more than you remember liking the original as well. I have no doubt you'll get to it eventually with how much this one's impressed you.

@Th3solution I might have missed it elsewhere, so apologies if you’ve already mentioned this, but how many of the Spidey movies have you watched?

  • Just the first one that Sam Raimi directed from 2002, I saw maybe about an hour of the first Avengers movie and then that was the end of the night. I mainly focused on the Blade and Punisher movies, I haven't seen Iron Man either but I have seen Deadpool. The Spiderverse sounds like (if I'm reading it right) a kind of alternate universe like Batman's Elseworlds. Batman as Dracula, that kind of thing. It allows the writers to ignore continuity and play with creative licensing. That's why I like those three books, each one is a collection of weird alternate worlds featuring those characters. I read those before anything else, it confused time-lines but I liked how unique they were. Maybe Mile's does too, if so I have no reference point for the regular Spiderman universe. Except for that first movie.

I'm after picking up the animated series box-set, it's about ninety hours worth of the original show from the nineties. I'll add those Spiderverse ones. Tobey Maguire didn't really do anything for me, I mostly watched it for Willem Dafoe, that movie looks so dated now. I've watched a lot of animated DC movies, no Marvel that comes to mind. I'm not sure why I stayed away from Marvel for so long, probably that first Avengers movie and the night that was in it. That was the last time I watched a movie with a non-Partner but people get ideas if you understand my meaning, and they chose that movie for their timing. I never watched Marvel after that.

I do like the rougher edge of DC, Marvel seems to be more inclusive when it comes to the age of their audience. I'm trying to avoid preachy real world things too, not out of ignorance. I just don't know what's going on out there and a game or movie isn't the place for me to learn. It breaks the escapism and creates too many questions. I read Brighton Beach is in Spiderman 2, I'm curious to see how accurate it is to the real location. I spent a lot of time there, it has my community. But at the same time I have certain expectations and if it's been altered in the way I expect, well I won't rush to play a Spiderman 3 if that makes sense. If a game is going to replicate a world they shouldn't inject bias and if they do I'll go elsewhere. It's no different than what my side did with the movies I watched which had altered endings etc, Drago one punching/killing Rocky and the credits rolling. I didn't need to be confused by that kind of media and if Insomniac went out of their way to make things current in geopolitical terms, then yes I'll either avoid certain areas/speed through or just not finish the game. That's another reason I allow myself to fall behind a decade in gaming, I don't trust that current content or certain subjects won't influence studios or whomever decides their game needs to highlight something beyond my own reference points, which are few and far between.

I saw some issues raised in Miles Morales already and I understand those as human nature, equal rights, homelessness etc and that's fine. I just have a sinking feeling about the third one.

@Tjuz I don't think I've ever seen a Kat in a video-game before so it instantly stood-out. I have to eventually watch Stranger Things, I know it features my favorite Kate Bush song.

I hope the Spider-Man DLC treats you well!

  • I one hundred percented that some nights ago, now I'm half way through Miles Morales, it's short though. I need to discord you a brief question by the way, I can't ask it here. You don't have to rush to answer it, I'll keep it very short. I'm not sure who else to run it by. I might try Lost Tapes before Spiderman 2, it's sounded better and better. I'm curious about it's soundtrack too. Are you tempted to platinum Lost Tapes at all?
