With the good reviews coming in, I warming up to the idea of treating myself. Unfortunately the disc drive appears to now also be sold out in the U.S. (the article the other day implied we were immune to the shortages but I suppose not anymore). What I would really love is an option to buy the console and then then select a package with the disc drive instead of the DualSense. I guess I can flip the DualSense and recoup some money to pay for the drive but I hate the hassle to get all the pieces lined up. I wonder if they will release a bundle in the future with the disc drive instead. 😄 Fat chance.

@Ravix I actually have a huge digital library already, including PS+ Extra. So yeah, I could be entertained for many months on it alone, to be honest. But my current main game is a disc (Dark Souls 2), and I have a decent disc backlog, but I think several from my digital library are also on deck as possibilities (KCD, and BG3, as you know 😅) and so I maybe won’t really miss a disc drive for 3-6 months… hmm, we’ll see. I just like having the option. My main discs I have in the lineup are GoW Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Hades, AC Odyssey, Dark Souls 3, Elden Ring, Witcher 3 (although maybe this is on PS+ now?), and Nier Replicant 😂 Omg…. Listing just my physical backlog gives me major panic attacks. 😛

@Th3solution better switch to a digital Pro for your own mental wellbeing then, that's that sorted 😁
I shall actually test out KCD in the PS4 game boost mega upgrade mode, or whatever it is called, as that is a game I know could do with some extra sharpening on a larger modern screen with some console wizardry. Be interesting to see some of the other things the console can do away from current gen games.

TLoU in the mode I was using on PS5 (unlocked performance) on the PS5 Pro now seems to hit 95/120 fps instead of 70/80 ish
PSSR Pro mode, which is the new 4K upscaled mode, seems to be hitting between 75/90fps in unlocked frame rate with VRR. So 4K visuals with maybe an 80+fps average? Seems pretty good to me for a console.
I don't have any fancy devices, it's just the readout on my tv, but it definitely seems a fair boost. Also, I feel like the water looks good now, but I'd have to go and check what it looked like before in this specific area, as the water that looked crap on my PS5 was from an earlier area.
FC25 is a weird one, I've seen conflicting reports about whether it is 120fps or not, but on mine, even when it was showing 60hz output it seemed much more responsive than it did on the PS5, and the motion and responsiveness is clearly faster as soon as you load the game, you can see it plain as day with your eyes that it is a faster frame rate than it was. Later on I managed to get a readout of 119.9hz after I adjusted auto VRR settings. I haven't got a clue what it means, but it feels fantastic and there are definitely more clearly defined animations that are able to be crammed in to the gameplay. I don't know what they have done, but it feels miles better to play
A tidbit for people who have played KCD
The loading titles now finish before Charles IV even dies 😱
So I guess Henry can go on to live in peace and prosperity 😁
(I guess that means the SSD might be even faster???)
Finished setting up mine
Spider-Man 2 was the only actually enhanced game I could try and the image is very nice and sharp in both Pro modes. Nice.
I would try Forbidden West and TLOU2 Remaster but... I have those on discs and I wasn't able to buy a drive yet.
I'm mostly interested in how much better SW Outlaws does, as it was my "current" single player game... but that goes on hold now, since - again - disc.
I'll probably get Alan Wake 2 instead.
Being able to just slide the SSD I had in my PS5 to my Pro was absolutely great. I just hit the ground running after one update. Horizon looks incredible.
I was really looking forward for this, but Sony once again was able to surprise on a negative way.. Despite the price, for me personally, the main problem is the lack of new games accompanying the launch and near future upcoming ones.
Owning also a high end PC there is no point to rush for it right now. All games that are enhanced and have interest, I've finished them or plat them, so not going to touch them again or at least anytime soon.
If down the line Sony will deliver a good portion of 1st party titles, I might consider getting one
The only Pro enhanced games I've tried so far are Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Palworld. Not sure what the enhancements are for those games, but I've not really noticed a difference. Looking forward to trying Sony's games.
@jdv95 it will still get the 60fps in 4K with PSSR, right? Just no scope to go beyond 4K60 with hdmi 2.0.
Graphical enhancements should still be visible as it's a fairly big 4k tv, but it depends on how close you are to the tv.
Do you currently use performance modes or quality modes in your current set up? And how do you feel about the games you currently play on ps5? That's what it should boil down to, really. If you use performance modes and ever bemoan them not hitting a full 60fps or looking less good than the quality mode, then you will benefit from an upgrade at some point.
If you use quality mode/30fps now, it really depends on if you want to be able to move up to 60fps with the same image quality available that you currently see.
If you want games that might fluctuate between 30/59 fps to look smooth with VRR then you will want to get a TV with hdmi 2.1 and VRR. Or if you want games to maybe have an unlocked frame rate option, 120fps modes, or 40fps options, then again it will be the tv you want to change first before deciding whether to go for the Pro as well.
(I might have rambled a bit, trying to cover all bases) 😅
There's also whether you want to future proof now, which is one big reason I got it. Titles like KCD2 and GTA6 will be very demanding, and having the extra power in the GPU will just make the best console version available right away. And if you want to see games with Ray Tracing pushed a little further in the future, then that will be in the realm of the Pro and helps devs add a few features that will be missing from PS5 without tanking the performance below 30fps.
@jdv95 I think @Ravix nailed it. I do think your TV set up would benefit because you’ll still get the increase in visual fidelity whilst in 60fps performance mode. But without VRR you’ll miss a few of the upsides of the unlocked FR options. That’s my guess, based on explanations. But I’d suspect even your situation will see 75% of the benefits Pro provides.

Quick update. I had a quick look at Horizon Forbidden West, and ooh baby that is a good looking performance mode (also, I feel like it was hitting over the 60fps console aim to boot) Imagine the things first party devs will be able to do when they are building with PSSR, Pro and PS6 in mind 😱 Guerilla even said they wish they had been able to do that with FW to begin with, but the timings weren't aligned they would have pushed things even further with the initial release than they have with the patch, too.
I still haven't decided which main game to play, but that was kind of luring me in a little. I'm still tempted to go for Dragon Age, however.

@Ravix I hear a lot of praises to HFW on the PS5 Pro. I guess I'll start my new game plus soon then . Digital Foundry says it's the best looking game on the Pro so far.
In my case I like how sharp the graphics is now in The Crew Motorfest. I used to play it on Performance on my base PS5 but when I was toggling between Fidelity and Performance I can notice a big difference especially when it comes to weather effects, dust... etc. Now on my PS5 Pro I can have this quality with better resolution and on 60 FPS. Really happy with that.
