@GirlVersusGame when you mentioned numerology before I was betting you’d picked up on 312 . I did a bit of runic divination back in the day (Tolkien nerd -> runes -> what runes were actually used for).
I liked the cat too, from memory the remake’s version is very close to the original.
Laura being an Angel didn’t occur to me but makes sense, although she did lure James into the room with the hanging bed monsters . She could have just been testing him, if he didn’t make it past them, he wouldn’t have made the rest of the journey
@GirlVersusGame
I wish i could feel how flatscreen horror games make you feel. But that's the luxory of being in your early 20's, combined with being hyper sensitive to jump scares, just that 20-something year old child-like wonderment that's retained at such a higher level that still flourishes, and the ability for a video game, or movie, to make such a profound emotional impact.
I would love to hear your opinion on Resident Evil 7 VR(It's like Texas chainsaw massacre, meets blair witch with a splash of Wrong Turn), with the latest PCVR mod using PSVR2. But if playing something like SH2 Remake is already giving you trouble in the scares departament on a television, than RE7 VR will feel like you've instantly plunged into a living breathing video game nightmare. TV video game jump scares are absolute peanuts compared to getting the exact same jump scare by the exact same same enemy in VR that's for sure! It's granny garfunkle' heart attack inducing.
Anyways, your enthusiasm and wonderful deep dive into SH2 Remake has me compelled to play it...in VR. Too bad about some of the sections being overly log and draged out. Devs sacrifice quality for quantity in order to appease people that are adament on wanting a 30+ hour expience. I mean, this is survival/psychological horror, not an RPG or Breath of the Wild. Length wise, It would fit more comfortably within the realm of Resident Evil. Do you plan on tackling SH: Town Fall as your next Silent Hill?
I'm really looking forward to Blooper Team's remake of SH1(PS1), which is the only Team Silent SH title i fully experienced back in the later 90's when it fresh out of the oven. The graphics have aged horrendously, as expected. Wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole these days, but it's soundtrack is every bit as timeless, and some of it's more free flowing none-fixed cinematic camera angles are still on point.
SH4: The Room is the one that i want to experience the most, but i just can't imagine it holding up all that well factoring in the current modern state of survival horror, and the much needed change and overhaul the once fixed-camara'd genre desperately needed in order get with the times.

It's not as straight forward as just the game. I'm a nervous wreck in real-life, my nerves are literally shot and sudden jumps do get my heart racing, that same heart stopped once for no reason (they still don't know why) and it flatlined me for a second time. Horror games/Silent Hill 2 were absolutely an experiment in exposure-therapy, I didn't go in there for the story or the gameplay, it was all a big experiment. My therapist warned me against it, and I had to make a case with my Partner before he agreed to allow me to play it, and even then the whole thing was carefully supervised because if my heart does start racing I can't correct it alone. I didn't like being scared, tense or having to relive certain things I've been through myself. Games started off as a way to test the waters for different things, much of it is a fear or some sort. Silent Hill 2 did affect me in a profound way, emotionally too, but it wasn't entirely positive. So while you might want to experience/feel that certain something I'd like to for once experience fear as fun, I've never been able to do that before. Some of it is cultural too, like how certain parts of Asia remove certain elements from games as to not disrespect their beliefs/ancestors. Take for example Resident Evil, it's a zombie but it was once a person and it's hard for me to not see the person, if it's a zombie movie I'm removed from the experience and it's the actor taking them down, in a game it would be me and I would struggle to do that. I considered The Village because it looks like monsters not people.

I like different forms of torture, different strokes as they say but that right there probably would kill me and you'd be who I'd haunt because of it. Speaking of, would you personally be more afraid of a human intruder in your home or a spirit/ghost?

It was a mix of traditional scares, depression, dread and despair. It was impossible not to feel that game, it was too well written, involved real humanity/fragility and I was prepared for none of it. Until Dawn should have scared me and I'm sure it did scare others, the disconnect was too strong. Those voice actors had huge personalities, there was no room for me. I think also constantly shifting characters also diluted the Horror, I'm not afraid of spirits or Wendigos either, I fear other humans.

You aren't selling me on VR, I'm laughing but it's true there is no way I'd ever touch a Horror game in VR. Even if Dario Argento himself blessed the headset with his own custom VR game I'd say thank you now please put it on that screen instead. Part of it also comes down to awareness, even at home I'm constantly checking my exits/looking over my shoulder, I have my reasons. I don't mind blindfolds in the right setting, but a headset like that doesn't just obscure my surroundings it leaves me blind to them, the fear of that happening is worse than any Horror game or any monster. So really it's more than technology than the content, I wouldn't be able to tolerate or enjoy the virtual if I don't feel safe in the physical. I'm not diminishing the efforts of the people in my life who's job it is to provide security, I need to be sure and that means my own constant awareness too. Even it were something fun and happy like Palworld, Paw Patrol or Minecraft I'd still feel the same with a VR headset, I wouldn't be able to engage in the virtual when I don't feel safe in the physical.
SH4: The Room is the one that i want to experience the most
Why this one? I've heard the name a couple of times now and know nothing about it.

Not at all, I'll read about the series but I'm in no hurry to jump back in there.

Oh so they are remaking the first game? I wasn't sure, I might play that one but only because everyone else would too and there's the feedback enjoyment too. Had I played Silent Hill 2 the remake and never talked about it nor shared my feelings/findings then I think the whole thing would have been miserable. Instead it was more cathartic because I did get to hear other peoples feelings and findings.
These violent delights have violent ends & in their triumph die, like fire & powder Which, as they kiss, consume.
