Topic: Returnal

I'm 90% certain I'm going to get this in the next week or so. The only thing that is still a little sticking point in the difficulty, but I think that's something that I'll just have to get used to. It looks to good to miss out on.

@HMazzy111 Did you ever get into Doom 2016 or Eternal?

@TraCuz- No, FPS games aren't really my thing. As cool as Doom looks I can't say I've ever tried it.

@HMazzy111 I can only speak on the first biome as I haven't had much time to play, but I feel like if you can handle the challenge of Nier(sheesh there's some tough bosses in Nier) then I think you could adjust to Returnal. Look up SkillUp's review, he talks about the difficulty curve.

@TraCuz- Yeah I've looked at quite a few reviews and gameplay videos and it seems like something that can be learned with some persistence. I'm sure I will get it and enjoy it but you never know until you get to that first spike in difficultly how committed you are to doing it.

@HMazzy111 It’s about both skill and luck really. Technically you could finish the game without getting hit if you’re really good but it’s the randomized things you find that will make some runs much easier than others. The point of the game is to keep playing until you’re finally able to progress. Most importantly, the running, shooting and dodging swarms of bullets is just tons of fun.

On that note, I think I won’t launch it today because I know if I do my day will be basically over

I've now been playing for 24 hours and reached Ixion but died during the 3rd phase as I wasn't expecting him to get up close and personal judging by the first two phases. Oh well next time I'll be better prepared. Perseverance is the key.

Housemarque sure have made a cracking PS5 game. No matter how many times I die I want more!

@MightyDemon82 Ixion is the 2nd one on top of the mountain, right?

This game is hands down the best use of 3D headphones so far. I won't play it any other way.

@Voltan that's the one. I only just figured out the overcharge mechanic. Guess I should have looked at the in game tutorials i kept wondering what the noise was when i was just hammering away at R2 and not noticing the bar turning yellow on screen.

@MightyDemon82 I found that most weapons (including the pistol) can be fired by holding the trigger, which makes the overcharge much easier (or rather makes you less likely to accidentally pull the trigger as soon as it starts reloading).

@Voltan thanks for the tip, have you managed to get any further yet? That sounds like you had an excellent run doing all 3 bosses in one go either that or your super human.

@MightyDemon82 I have not played it since (only ended that run by dying in the 4th biome to something similar to that thing that kills most players in their 1st run, maybe 20 minutes in). Reaching the 4th biome effectively starts a new run anyway so it's not I lost any significant progress. It also unlocked daily challenges so I'm looking forward to that.

@Voltan oh nice so once you get to the fourth biome you start from there rather than the ship or can you just teleport there quicker?

As for MK I've had enough but I got promoted to Grand Master so things are going fine

@MightyDemon82 I though you might not want to, which is why I tagged it. Anyways, there's a significant bit of story happening at that point. It's still all kinda cryptic and confusing though

I’m quite enjoying investigating the second biome at the moment but will have to try and crack on soon as it’s getting late. Can’t wait to unlock more of the story as it really is cryptic so far.

@velio84 that’s unlucky about the crash and that’s partly why the rest mode thing sucks a little as if it crashes whilst in rest mode (which I have had happen) then you’ve lost your current run. I’ve been stuck in a room before so also went back to the first suit and haven’t had that happen since. I’ve got a bug at the moment though where I can’t get into the settings menu as it just flicks into one of the other options when you try and select it. Was just going to see if there’s any fine tuning I could do but guess I will have to do that another time.

@Voltan I had a crack at one of the challenges yesterday and it was really fun. Had a good weapon and just had to do a good run through the first biome to try and get the best score. I didn’t do too great, think I was about half way down the leaderboard but it added a different dimension to play and it’s definitely something I’d come back to even after finishing the game.
