@render @JohnnyShoulder I’m not very adept at picking up on sound nuance in games and movies but I subliminally appreciate them for sure. I’m going to have to make an effort to notice the sounds in the game. I have picked up on the large amount of sharp ‘crunchiness’ to a lot of the sound effect and the mechanical beeping and humming. It’s a fantastic display of audio for sure.

Had a really great run going today which was completely ruined by a single malfunction. Most malfunctions are easy enough to get around, but I got afflicted with one that paralyzed all proficiency gains and could only be cleared by picking up an artifact. Unfortunately I had cleared most of Biome 1 already on my way to leveling up for a dedicated Biome 3 attempt; so despite having built my suit integrity bar to double, this malignancy effectively neutered the run. When I went to Biome 3 I was stuck at proficiency level 3 up until I finally found an artifact about halfway through. By then, I’m stuck trying to take out drones with a level 4 Roltgland Lobber and it was just eventually unsustainable.

The run wasn’t all in vain — I made a little progress in traits and was able to find a couple ciphers and scout logs along the way.

I also took on a parasite that gave me the auto-integrity rejuvenation at critical health, but at the expense of 50% decrease in melee and dash refresh rate. I thought it would be worth the trade off for the health benefit, but I’m not so sure. Your brain and fingers have this internal timing that is ingrained over the course of play and I took a lot of damage drying to dash when it wasn’t available yet.

Ah well, back to the crash site.

@Th3solution Yeah personally I would never trade off dash and melee, as that would hamper my playstyle too much.

For that malfunction, I probably would have popped into biome 2. There is usually locked chests or rooms which have an Artefact. Than you can run all the way to the gate before the temple, which transports you to just before the gate to biome 3.

@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, in retrospect I totally should have gone through B2’s open area in hope of finding an artifact, then teleport to B3 from there. It killed me to just have to walk past the huge proficiency bumping calculator pickup at the beginning of B3. And apparently, you can’t go back to it after you drop down from there. Drat!

Just an FYI for everybody getting stuck on certain points, for me the best option was to take a break. I had a wedding to attend, and came back a few days later, booted up the ps5, and beat ophion 1st try after getting stuck around the biome! If I can do it, y’all can do it to!

@Just_2_milky Good one, congrats for beating Ophion!

You are definitely right, taking a break is sometimes the best thing. I remember I few runs where I felt slightly annoyed that I'd just wiped out so went straight back in again and then just get killed soon after. Take a break and definitely don't play angry 😂

render

JohnnyShoulder

@Just_2_milky Yeah I'm taking breaks at the weekend now, seeing as I'm just looking for glyphs at the moment. I took a week off once, never again as it took me longer than I liked! Well done for beating Ophion!

@JigsawPieces Cheers for letting us know, I've just downloaded it.

This will most likely be my last week with the game as i can feel myself getting bored and frustrated with it. Will finish of Act 3 and then one last push for the glyphs, but either way I think it is time to move on.

All my Overgrown Ruins survey progress was wiped by the latest update. 😩 I was 1 cipher away, now it says I'm at 0% and no ciphers collected.

5 Min later Update: restarting the run worked! My progress is back to 98%

@Just_2_milky That happened to me a couple of weeks back. I was sweating on that for a bit!

Man, I’m struggling with Biome 3. It throws more curve balls at you it seems like. Like I’ll be going along fine, with full health and large increases integrity that I’ve been nursing along and building for an hour, good gun with good traits, just wiping the floor with everything, and then BAM! — I’m in a room with crazy robots everywhere and I’m dead in 20 seconds.

So what do you all recommend as far as how to attack B3? I’ve been leveling up in B1 at least until I can buy the 25% integrity upgrade and maybe a large silphium or something else, then I go straight to B3. It’s getting a little mundane doing B1 over and over at this point. I tried to jump over to B2 to grind and I ended up with the same result. Is it necessary to grind through B1 and B2 before going to B3? I can’t tell how far into B3 I’m getting, but I’m guessing about halfway, based on the size of the other biomes. Haven’t sniffed the boss yet.

@Th3solution Trying to remember back to when I was first playing, I think I often ended up having to do B1 and B2 before going to B3 to get tooled up enough. I do think I only did the first part of B2 though, basically up to the door of the mountain and then took the translocator door to the top and straight through the portal to B3. I'd also save my keys from B1 and use them in B2 as there were more rooms with better loot in them.

Those rooms in B3 are quite brutal but if you can thin out the mobs then you can just hide round corners to take the big automatons out. It's probably been mentioned plenty of times before but if you can draw some of the drones away by going back or finding a room that you can hide in that can make it considerably easier. Also look for grapple points and keep moving. What weapon are you tending to favour? I can't remember if you've got the lobber or the pylon gun by that point but those of those can be useful for causing on going damage while you take cover.

render

Voltan

@render You get the pylon driver early in Act 2. The lobber I personally didn't get until the endgame platinum grind but I think most players can have it by then (IIRC it's in biome 1 but you need the grapple to get it)

Voltan

johncalmc

@render This is why I was asking :')

You don't get the Pylon until... the 4th biome? I think. Until then the Rotgland Lobber will do. I used that to get through the third biome because you can kinda just hit something once and then concentrate on avoiding damage while the poison works. Once you got the pylon... oh boy. That weapon is so overpowered.

@johncalmc @Voltan The pylon is an awesome weapon but I actually ended up preferring the lobber with explosive rot which carved through most things. Even in B6 it was really effective.

Th3solution

@johncalmc @Voltan @render Yeah, I’ve been mostly using the Rotgland Lobber, but also some of the carbine, depending on what the run deals me. Maybe I’ll try a large grindy run through B1 and the first of B2, it’s just I get so anxious to progress. But like I say, it’s not like I’m going straight to B3 with the beginning pistol and base integrity (ok, maybe I’ve tried that once, but otherwise…) I’m going in fairly well prepped.
But it’s good to know the Lobber is probably the way to go. I’m getting more accustomed to using it. It has a strange overload that takes some getting used to, as well as the aim is more nebulous, especially for flying enemies where it will whiff a lot more often. The accuracy is better with holding down R2 trigger for a moment and power up, but in the frantic fray of 10 enemies barraging you, that few seconds is the difference of life of death.

One thing I need to do is get the timing down on the red rings from the stupid turret bombs and all the different robots.

One of my good runs was completely ruined by my going into a collapsing floor secret room and the mini boss there was nigh impossible. He set the whole room’s floor as electricity and then sent out every manner of red rings, orbs, lasers, and had a melee sword type attack that had pretty good reach, especially for the small room with no where to go. Sucks.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

Voltan

@render @johncalmc I have to admit the driver is a strong weapon but I just didn't enjoy it very much myself

Voltan

render

@Th3solution The overload is difficult to judge definitely, but if you get it you can blow stuff away with a few perfectly timed ones.

With those mini bosses in the yellow rooms if I was doing a proper run I'd just get the hell out of there straight away while it was still spawning. Sometimes you can even grab a health of something on the way out but just bail as quick as you can.
