I couldn't find a topic for this game. If there is one feel free to lock/delete this.

I am hyped for this game. I was not a huge fan of the original game due to being more action than what I would like but this seems better. Time will tell.

There is also a strange issue. I preordered the game in psn and it has vanished from my library for some reason!! This happened a lot of times in the past actually. The most known issue was with Cold Steel 4 where the preorder was bugged and unplayable for everyone!!

In any case I will have to play on my OG PS4 but Capcom games seem very optimized, I am not that worried for performance.

I’ve played Resi 4 three or four times but I can’t say I really like much about it overall. Appreciate its a stone cold classic though and why some people rate it so highly.

I won’t be there on day 1 for this, but I’ll get it after a decent sale.

For some reason, I struggled to keep interest with RE4. My partial playthrough is still sitting there and every time I set out to resume it, I find an excuse to play/do something else. I keep thinking that it’s just a ‘not being in the mood’ thing, but I haven’t been in the mood for about 4 months and so I’m starting to think that it’s more about me just not gelling with the game. Which is a shame, because I had such a great experience with the first 3 games.

The remake has a good chance to correct some of my sore spots with the game though — namely the awkward controls and antiquated menu hopping. And I hate to be ‘that guy’, but I wish there was difficulty options, because the difficulty has sapped my enjoyment of the game too. I played the first 3 games on an easy setting and so I think the higher difficulty is part and parcel to my struggles with the game too. As someone who has completed three From games, Returnal, defeated the Valkyrie Queen, etc, I can enjoy a difficult game from time to time, but here it’s more like the difficulty is a constant struggle against the game itself, rather than the game world, if that makes sense.

Anyways, I’m not likely to pick up the Remake on day 1, because I really want to finish the original before I play it, just out of sheer personal stubbornness. So who knows when that might be.

I remember playing through this on the Wii back in the day and absolutely loving it, haha. I think it was the first Resi I played since the early PlayStation days and one of the few Resis I have genuine fond memories of.

Then I tried to replay it on PC in the last couple of years and found the controls just rancid. If it feels more like a modern action game, I think I might enjoy this a lot, based on my memories from playing it on the Wii. Admittedly that was a long time ago now, the memories are fuzzy and I'm a very different person.

I really want to like this series, as I know people absolutely love it and would love to be involved in the conversation, but I've tried 7, Village and the 2 Remake all within the last few years and bounced off all of them fairly quickly.

I don’t mind the controls etc, in fact I like them.

Just don’t really like the characters (I’m all about Jill, Chris and Barry), the locations and Las Plagas.

Played the demo and it’s got me even more excited for the game. From what I’ve played it modernises Resident Evil 4 without losing what made it special.

I already have it pre-ordered and am pretty confident it will be great based on loving the past two RE remakes, so I'll pass on playing the demo. It's nice that they continue to offer them though, and it's especially good about Capcom removing the time limit.

Does the demo have gyro aiming has anyone tested? Might need to go PC for this if it doesn't.

@Pizzamorg I haven't tried it yet but somebody in the comments section mentioned that there is indeed gyro aiming.

LN78

Pizzamorg

Oh yeah just checked the comments @LN78 never thought about that before, thanks for the heads up. Looks like you can't move while aiming if you use the gyro based on the comments, so it is kinda like the old controls. Sounds kinda bad but I guess I'll give it a go.

@KilloWertz I'm the same. I'll wait 2 more weeks and experience it all on release. It's been a very long time since I played the original so think it will feel like a completely new game.

I might give the demo a go this weekend. I was never a fan when it first came out (I actually played it some time after it was released), and never did finish it. Hopefully Ashley won't as annoying this time round.

Does anybody know if the demo is self contained, like the ones for 7 and 8?

Thank you for the detail @NeonPizza! I think based on what you said I am going to get this on PC if I am going to get it anywhere, then. Shame, as properly implemented gyro is my way to play shooters. All the precision of mouse aim but frees me from the shackles of my desk. I know you can sort out gyro on PC but it is hell of a faff to even get it working, let alone make it enjoyable to play.

Just played the demo and... yep, it's Resident Evil 4. Obviously a much more visually accomplished version of the game, but it feels the same.

I like that they added stealth kills, but I don't remember the knife being able to break in the original. Am I misremembering? If your knife breaks and you run out of ammo, you're left effectively defenseless, which is a problem in that first village horde area. Which, I noticed, they seem to have made harder in this version.

I remember saying there's not a lot you can do to improve RE4, and I still feel this way tbh. The original still looks and plays good. This is the first of the remakes that just feel sort of pointless to me.

Code Veronica would have benefitted way more from the remake treatment.

@Ralizah I haven’t actually played the Demo, but the parry ability is new, and that causes weapon damage I believe. I assume you can naturally use your knife as a stabbing weapon too (like in the original) - does that still cause damage to it?

@kyleforrester87 Apparently. I didn't even know parrying was a thing. I stabbed dudes a few times and my knife broke. :/

@Ralizah bummer - I knifed my way through the first big chunk of the game. I guess if you get walk and aim, they gotta take something away huh!

@kyleforrester87 The knife was hugely useful in the OG release. The enemies are already tougher to compensate for the improved controls, so it's a shame the sturdy weapon from the original was nerfed so badly.

Whoops, there is in fact an option for Gyro aiming, but ultimately it's kind of, well, just ok after maxing a couple of aiming speed sliders. I went back to analog stick aiming.

Is it true like they were saying in the comments that gyro aiming means you can't move while aiming?

Capcom did a good job with the game based on this demo, but there isn’t much novel about it. Resi 4 was a revelatory release and it’s still up there with Doom as a fun, empowering shooting gallery. This version seems to be borrowing from the recent remakes of 2 and 3 because the zombies are tougher and Leon’s aim is shakier. The increased recoil on the guns making lining up shots more difficult as well. Overall it feels and less arcadey and controls more like a modern survival horror game. This could be at odds with the game which essentially evolves in a ridiculous Bond-like action movie, fighting super soldiers on an island hideaway with a mutant G.I Joe stalking you.

One reasons this game has such a following is because it is not ashamed to be a campy action game. It will be interesting to see if taking out the cheese and adding “realism “ will stand to benefit the remake.
