Topic: PS5 Digital vs. XSS

PS5 digital edition is still a better option should it be released @ $399.
Why?
Because:
Faster SSD (5.5gb vs. 2.4gb)
More storage (825gb vs. 512gb)
Better GPU (10.3tf vs. 4tf)
Better audio (Tempest engine vs. .... )
Better controller (gyro, embedded battery, touch pad, mic, speaker, haptics, adaptive triggers vs. NOTHING)
Better 1st party games

@nessisonett The ps5 digital edition most probably won't cost £150 more. The XSS will cost $299. If Sony wishes to be competitive, it'll price the PS5 digital at $399.
Being sold at a hundred bucks more, it still sounds more reasonable due to the much better specs of the PS5 digital.

@AlisonPentouseus The PS5 digital isn’t competing with the Series S, it’s just an option for PS5 players who don’t want discs. Sony aren’t doing a lower spec console. The digital console will exist alongside the traditional.

@nessisonett I agree with you up to a point. But, in my humble opinion, everything is competing with everything. LOL

@AlisonPentouseus The point is that this console is a specific lower end model. Comparing it to a full spec console that happens to miss a disc drive is a little pointless. If Sony made a lower spec PS5 then sure, it would make sense to compare.

I will buy PS5 Slim model with disc drive since i play all the games physically, never like being digital only.
Xbox is a dead brand in here Indonesia.

As I said, I agree with you in principle, but what you need to consider is this : Picture that you have $399 in your pocket and you are going to buy a console but you are undecided as to which console is right for you. You'll see a low-tier Xbox priced at $299 and a PS5 at $399. Considering the better specs and only $100 difference, which one will you buy?
Call it competition or not, the PS5 digital edition is much more reasonable for the price.

@Anti-Matter One more thing, even if Sony doesn't want to compete with Microsoft, the XSS was built from the ground up with the PS5 digital edition in mind as a competitor.

But here is the thing.
Sony brand has their branch in Indonesia and Indonesia is PlayStation land.
I have booked at least two 1st party games from PS5 (Astrobot Playroom, Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart) (I only play appropriate games for kids / family by mostly with a few Teen games)
But i found nothing interesting from Xbox Series games. Their 3rd party games are 99% same as PS5 so i will choose PS5 version instead.
Conclusion, i will go to PS5 road and i will have PlayStation Do Re Mi Fa So (PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5)

Oh, btw.
I have both PlayStation and Nintendo games and machines.

@Anti-Matter Lucky you! As you probably know, we do not have any official Playstation branch here in Iran (due to the sanctions). But all console models are smuggled into the country and they are easily available for everyone to buy. Back in the PS3/360 era, I remember most Iranians had chosen the 360 over the ps3 because of the better availability of the 360 games. But after ps4 was brought into business, it totally destroyed Microsoft here in Iran. Although, there are still people who buy Xbox in my country and that is the reason why Xbox is not completely vanished yet.

We're going to see a lot of comparisons between those two in the upcoming months, but the fact is that they're not the same type of machine.

Comparing a PS5 Digital and XSX spec-wise is about the same thing as comparing a PS4 Pro with a Switch. They're not similar.

@Kidfried True. But if the price difference of ps5 digital and xss is only $100, Sony has already won the game. Call it rivalry or not.

@AlisonPentouseus Nope, Microsoft undercutting Sony by £100 would make a huge dent in the casual base. Parents would rather pick up a machine that cost way less but played similar games. Plenty people would take the price cut.

@nessisonett True to some extent. But do not forget that these machines are not solely aimed at parents. A substantial share of gamers are grown-ups.

@AlisonPentouseus What 'game' has Sony won? It is a nonsense made up by fans just so they can goad people that do not have the machine. Just enjoy your console that you choose to play on.

When the Pro and One X were released the lower priced consoles (the slim and one s) always sold significantly more. Not everyone wants to pay more for the extra power and stuff.

The xbox series s for £249 is impulse buy territory. If they throw in an xbox game pass I would buy one to sit alongside the PS5.

Well played by MS. I don't mind 1080p gaming, especially when it comes to indie games. £249 with a controller is great imo.

Only time will tell how nerfed the games are, which I suppose is my main concern.

In the UK I honestly expect the PS5 DE to be around £299.99 to £349.99 and the PS5 SE to be somewhere between £349.99 and £399.99. It's going to be interesting to see where Sony price their console.
