Topic: Playstation 5 slim sitting flush with my table (horizontally)

Hi. For the past 18 months I have had my ps5 slim sitting as follows: https://ibb.co/fYYdk2Pw

I've noticed on various images online that the ps5 slim isn't meant to be sitting so flush with the table on the rightmost side. Am I doing something wrong? My Ps5 slim gets VERY hot, and, after turning it upside down, I've noticed it has yellowish discolouration on the bottom. I am very concerned that I've been overheating my PS5 slim this whole time. Can anyone guide me on what I might be doing wrong?

@Mausii Sorry I can't help you with it. I don't know many who have their PS5 flat, but yours look suspicious. Just bumping this thread hoping someone will know!

You can place your PlayStation 5 in either orientation, as both are officially supported and safe. Horizontal is widely recommended for better liquid metal stability, reduced risk of falling, and easier dust management, while Vertical is better for saving desk space -

Horizontal - Stability & Safety:The console rests flat on its side, making it virtually impossible to accidentally knock over.

Liquid Metal: Prevents the console's internal liquid metal thermal paste from pooling at the bottom over time, potentially avoiding long-term dry spots or leaks.

Space: Takes up less vertical space but requires a wide surface area in your entertainment center.

Dust: Less prone to having dust fall directly into the top air vents.Note: You must use the included stand/feet in this position to prevent rocking and ensure proper airflow underneath.

Vertical Space Saving: Ideal if you have a smaller desk setup or limited room on your TV stand.

I'd be more concerned by the back vents blowing directly onto the tv, which is what it seems like is happening here. The hot air needs somewhere to exhaust to, preferably not onto a tv screen.

Could you place it on the shelf below to give it more room?

Consoles do get hot, though. So as long as it is not crashing and overheating it should be fully functional. A 6 month or yearly vacuuming of the vents/interior is usually recommend, too.

We cannot see how much of a gap there is between the PS5 and the TV and there is lots of room to pull it towards the front edge of the shelf making more of a gap if needed when in use.

@Bell_412 Hey, thanks for your reply It actually isn't on a shelf, it's on a single-surface table. There is a decent amount of space between the PS5 and TV, more than enough for heat dissipation. I am more concerned that I am not getting enough elevation from the plastic 'feet' stands.

@Herculean Hey, what do you think looks suspicious about it? Do you think I am not getting enough vertical elevation from the plastic feet? There's no way for me to get the PS5 higher up - I've tried everything!

@Ravix Thanks for your reply, Ravix. I have a good amount of space between the TV and the console. My main concern is that the little plastic transparent feet aren't giving my PS5 enough vertical elevation!

I use mine this way and have had no problem i am sure the designers took airflow into account when they decided how much of a gap to leave

@Mausii well, it should be okay then, as it draws air in all round the curved side all the way round to the other side and vents it out of the rear. Maybe it will just need some maintainance (if it has dust inside) But like I say, if it isn't crashing due to overheating it should be okay.

I've never had one with the shiny plastic covers, mine have had the matte ones, but maybe that plastic type is more prone to discolouration.

Check YouTube videos if you do want to vacuum/perform light maintenance on the console though, dust can definitely add to overheating and it is fairly easy to remedy that if it ever does become an issue 😄

@Mausii The only thing I’ll add is that on my Pro (which is the same chassis as the Slim I believe) it does sit higher off the surface than your picture is showing. The difference is that I have a disc drive installed. The detachable disc drive seems to put a cm or so of elevation and so the plastic “feet” that come with it must be bigger, resulting in the right side of the unit being a little higher. This is just me eyeballing it compared to your picture, I don’t know for sure if the feet are different.

Does this result in better cooling? I have no idea. I don’t see any discoloration happening but the unit is only about a year old. Anyway, if you’re concerned, maybe splurge for a disc drive. 😅 I love having one as it keeps my options open to buy physical when it’s cheaper (which is often the case, especially on the second hand market) and it’s more than paid for itself several times over just for the occasional game savings.

Ah I'm kinda broke atm, can't afford to splurge on a disk drive... but yes, i have seen pictures of ps5s with disc drives that sit up higher

It looks fine to me, i assume you have fitted the stand.

If you are worried put something sturdy under the stand to lift it more.

Mine is on the round black disk stand why not fit it and see if it makes any difference.

Unfortunately no shops on my island stock the black horizontal stand (I live in Malta, a very small country). I'm still worried that the plastic feet aren't giving enough vertical "lift" for my PS5 :/
