@MightyDemon82 Ah, the backlog. There is nothing like leaving your recent purchases waiting in line because other game just came out and took priority over anything else already owned. GoW: Ragnarok is a huge one in this category.
I try to be restrained these days as games that go on sale once generally cycle in and out of PSN sales so it feels like you rarely miss out on a bargain.
The only game from my wish list that pinged up with a reasonable saving was Sonic Origins so that one has joined the to-play pile.
And I also got my yearly PS+ /Essential top up too.
The original game is the one I’ve played least as I never actually owned it myself but I’m pretty sure I’ve still completed it multiple times.
Sonic 2 through to S&N I’ve completed many many times in their various combinations. Sonic CD I have never played.
I feel I must have played 3 since. Maybe it came out on the Wii virtual console at some point?
I still probably know the 2 to S&N levels inside out. I found Sonic Mania incredibly discombobulating when it had the original beginning of levels before “remixing” them.
@Bentleyma You're not wrong for the most part. The argument that games will look even better a couple of years down the road when (hopefully) everything is current gen only is also correct, but Horizon Forbidden West was the best looking game I had ever played and it's cross-gen obviously. Obviously God of War Ragnarok is a pretty game as well, but I would put it below Forbidden West in that area.
Then there's The Last of Us Part 1, which obviously is a remake of a PS3 game, but is still build from the ground up for the PS5. A part of me wants to say that it became the best looking game I've ever played after it came out, which obviously is a nice preview of what current gen only games could look like, but I don't want to say that officially because it's been at least 6 months since I've played Horizon Forbidden West. I'll just say they are both gorgeous games, which kind of goes back to the fact that cross-gen games can still compete with current gen only games just fine at the moment.

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika@Bentleyma@Killowertz How the game looks from a graphical standpoint is only one aspect of how current gen tech can make a game better. Faster hardware has the potential to affect core game design as well. For example TLoU1 Remake touted better enemy AI and all the accessibility features which were added and likely not possible on the original PS3 and PS4. But basic design like the hidden loading screens that some games have while transitioning to a new area and the game has you ride an elevator or walk through a door slowly or duck under a tree and you lose control while you watch a small pre-rendered animation — those things may be unnecessary when designing a current gen game from the ground up. Enemy density on screen, intricacy of map design, number of interactive items on screen or destructible set pieces, ability to play split-screen, etc, etc. A lot of things are possible besides number of pixels and quality of the image (although that too). Not to mention just basic gameplay mechanics which we can’t even imagine right now, like PSVR2 will likely bring.
So, I would image something like the TLoU3 where almost every part of the environment can be interacted with and every door you see can be opened into a room that can be explored. Every NPC has AI that responds to you; when you walk through a crowd the people aren’t just part of the scenery doing a set animation but can react to you as well… Just having a sheer concentration of the semblance of a living world. Imagine playing Spider-Man where you can enter every one of the buildings in Manhattan.
I think the graphics are at a point where we are getting diminishing returns but the gameplay has places to go that are yet to be tapped into.
We’ll see with some of the games this year that are current gen only.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Voltan And has since been taken down. I wouldn't get my hopes up for much of anything for now. It is Sony we are talking about here. They didn't even do much for God of War Ragnarok. I'd love to be wrong though.

@KilloWertz The store screenshots were also retweeted by Insomniac's community director (who previously tweeted a new S-M2 gif out of nowhere). I might be reading to much into it buuuut... feels like something is going on
@Voltan I did not know that. That is a bit different than just a random store page popping up, so there may be something to it. Who knows. We'll find out soon enough, but it's a 2023 game regardless. It's just a matter of how late in the year, as I think Insomniac is more than capable of delivering the game relatively on time.

I’ve got myself and my kids a PS5 that we will all be sharing but how do I allow my kids to play my games that I own and my PS Plus Extra sub without them using my profile as I do not want them to use my saved games and carry on where I left off? I want 2 of my kids to have their own profiles but I was under the impression that my game library and PS Plus sub was limited to just my profile?
@MaccaMUFC As long as you have "console sharing and offline play" enabled on your account on this console, every other user can play your games on it. If this is your first/only PS5, it will be enabled by default - you don't need to do anything, just add other users.
@Voltan Thank you for letting me know. I’ll make sure that is enabled and will set up their profile’s tomorrow before the PS5 is wrapped up for Christmas. I’ve been playing on it for a few months while the kids have been at school then putting it away with all the packaging so that it’s still like new before picking them up.
I’m on Seattle Day 2 with Abby on TLoU Part II, I’ll only have a few hours on it tomorrow before having to put it away till Christmas due to the kids breaking up from school, so I won’t be able to finish TLoU 2 till well after Christmas , just when I’ve been getting really into it as well 😩
@MaccaMUFC Congrats on the PS5! And good to see you’re really getting along with TLoU2, which is an impressive game, if not a little unsettling and divisive. I quite liked it, even though it had a controversial narrative. It doesn’t quite live up to the level of the first game as a whole (imo), but visually and gameplay-wise it’s superior. I haven’t yet played the new PS5 remake of Part I though. Nevertheless, playing Part II on PS5 via backwards compatibility is remarkably better looking and performing from a technical standpoint than a lot of native PS5 games.
As far as sharing accounts, I think the way it works is that if you download a game from your PSN account on the console that all users on that console can access and play it, provided you have the settings correct like Voltan says. But the kids won’t be able to go into your online library from their accounts and select games to download, I don’t think. I also don’t think that they can be playing on their account and have access to online multiplayer features or cloud saves unless to subscribe them separately to their own PS+. I could be wrong about that but I think I heard it described that way. But if you download games from PS+ Essential and Extra onto your hard drive, then it will show up in all the other accounts on the PS5 as present in their libraries.
So hopefully none of the games they want to play will be online multiplayer games. Of course PS+ isn’t required for F2P online games usually, but if they want to do online raids on Avengers or meet up for sessions in Destruction All Stars or whatever then I’m not sure they can use those online features.
