@zupertramp Like I said before, I don't mind that page so much anymore and it being on the home screen. What they should do is give people the option to choose what they want to it default to when the console boots up. That way you wouldn't have to look at Tom Holland's face every other day if that bothers you.

I've seen people complain about that, them replacing the artwork in the background with artwork from the latest DLC (Ubisoft does this with every game), or the ads to buy add-ons above the trophy data, but all of that complaining has been in moderation.

What they did with Horizon Forbidden West is the first one that's truly bothered me since I got over the replacement for the What's New page. It truly makes no sense. It's not like it's going to make me mad enough to stop playing it and jump ship to my Series X, as it all goes away the moment I'm back in playing Horizon Forbidden West, but it is something that is just plain stupid and should be reversed before it actually gets out of hand.

@zupertramp No ads in the explorer tab just the latest news from the games I'm following, and it doesn't show up straight away when I first power on the console.

@KilloWertz an option of what to boot up to would be more than fine. and the ability to remove icons from the home screen but that's probably years from now if it happens at all.

weirdly the HFW accolades screen doesn't seem to be displaying correctly on mine. so it's fairly annoying on two fronts.

But yeah the explore startup screen and the cross gen related auto install/update are my two biggest complaints. neither of which being deal killers of course.

@JohnnyShoulder yes well, technically it displays "news" for me too, as in news about new products I can pay for lol.

@zupertramp I haven't tried to actually click on it since I have no plans on ever watching it, and maybe a bit out of spite since I hate what they did. Strangely I think I've only had issues with installing the correct version of a cross gen game once, and that was the day Control Ultimate Edition released and I think they were still in the process of updating things to reflect it's release (it also was releasing on PS Plus that day too, one more thing for them to update).

Speaking of updating, my only real gripes so far with that is the fact that it can sometimes take a good two minutes for a game to actually start installing once I put the disc in or click to download a digital version. I will never be able to figure out why things just don't start installing/updating pretty much right away. That and the fact that you can't update games if they are on an external SSD, and can't check for updates unless the game is in your line of icons on the home page.

It is been a long time since I booted up my PS4, so when I turned it on yesterday to survey what I had on there, I was really confused. 😅 My muscle memory was already reprogrammed for the PS5 UI, so for a few minutes I was thinking “Man, this PS4 interface is garbage. How did I ever like this better?”

But then after about 15 minutes I fell back into rhythm with it and I remembered why I liked it. Although I must say, having to open up the store with clicking an icon and then waiting for the app to load was a bit annoying.

But everything else about the crossbar and the folders and organization was much better on PS4.

It's weird seeing that people had hopes for PS5 even 4 years ago

Looks like VRR is being rolled out on some Sony 2021 televisions.

@Col_McCafferty There are valid reasons to criticise From and Elden Ring and then there’s banging on about the same stuff over and over. It just doesn’t really add anything to the conversation.

@kyleforrester87 I didn't think the og comment was really all that bad tbf. But that could be because I also find everything about Fromsoft a tad pretentious and elitist. Don't mean that to disrespect anyone either, it's just the vibe I get.

That said I've seen a myriad of different opinions on ER past couple days so I'm not sure I'd characterize this place as a full on ER fansite.

Is Elden Ring a PS5 exclusive? It's not right? Because that does make the comment a little out of place here.

@zupertramp it’s just been a really… weird pattern of behaviour. Opinions are great but what can I say. He’s just not for me!

@zupertramp Ultimately though, you can only know so much about a game until you play it. I genuinely wasn’t sure about Elden Ring at all, the network test was not good and I wasn’t convinced by the trailers. But I got it anyway to give it a decent shot and it’s one of the best games I think I’ve ever played. When somebody goes on about how bad a game is over and over despite having never played it, in the face of rather a lot of people who do, then that just makes you a contrarian.

@nessisonett yes, contrarian. That's the impression i get too but that's also the impression I get from @kyleforrester87 and I've grown to appreciate their presence on the site.

But i hear you both. Anyway maybe I'll give the game a chance when it's deeply discounted.

@zupertramp haha, I am not for everyone either. I do try to be respectful of people and not over step the mark. I don’t mind being a contrarian but hopefully I have some self awareness and a little self deprecation to go along with it. But who knows how I come across on the internet

@nessisonett Didn't see whatever happened while I was at work happening. I know he's been taking shots at the game since it was being heavily talked about in the Horizon Forbidden West thread for a little while, but I figured that would have been it.

I'm still planning on passing on the game, but it's not because I think it's bad. I don't doubt it's a great game, but their games aren't exactly my cup of tea. Really difficult games that really frustrate the player is not fun for me, so I have passed on all of their games knowing that I wouldn't enjoy the experience like I would if they weren't so difficult. Since this is an open world RPG and I love the genre, I was tempted at first, but ultimately thought better of it. I may consider giving it a shot down the road when it's on sale since I do love open world RPGs, so then all I would lose for the most part would be time, but it releasing right after Horizon Forbidden West made it an easy pass for me right now. Nothing was going to keep me from playing that game right away as it was my most anticipated game of the new generation so far, like Elden Ring surely was for plenty of other people.

Yeah, I had a run-in with a From superfan trolling my legitimate comments about Elden Ring in the articles. The orthodox FromSoft fans can be a bit unreasonable and abrasive (as can the overenthusiastic fans of nearly every game series or property, to be fair). And actually, I was trying to be complementary to Miyazaki for being open to change gameplay mechanics to make ER more accessible and it was like I spoke sacrilege against the purity of the asceticism of the brand. 😂 How dare the holy properties of FromSoft be defiled by… [gasp!] the plebeians. There’s no way Father Miyazaki would ever need constructive criticism to improve his works of art! They are already perfect and need no improvements! 😜

Anyone who read my recent highly positive review of Demon’s Souls knows I’m a fan of the developer’s work, so I can poke fun.

But the worst fans are clearly the Kingdom Hearts fans. Followed by the Yakuza fans.

@Th3solution If we judged everything by the article comments then we’d be in a much worse community! Wasn’t that long ago that there was a wave of actual racist comments during the wave of protests in 2020, you just have to go onto the recent Haven article to see a bit of good old fashioned bigotry etc. The forums on the other hand have been on the most part totally separate from all that. So having people basically troll others on the forums is a much bigger offence than doing so on the Wild West that is the articles imo.
