Not the best show ever, but I arrived late and skipped through some stuff, but it is definitely a nice start to the summer of gaming and there will be so much good stuff to come from Third Parties, too. Sony may even sneak another game into SGF if they want to actually make a bit more noise.
But imagine being so reliant on Sony for gaming happiness to be genuinely upset by this SoP though 😅 more great games will come, and Wolverine and GoW are pretty big deals!
Of course, GTA is still the elephant in the room, and any game reveal will eventually get smashed by their next trailer whenever they decide to drop that. And if Sony has marketing rights this will soon be forgotten. Sell a bunch more consoles and move in to 2027 with some big reveals after GTA is out in the wild
I didn’t get to watch it (some of us have jobs… 😜) but looking over the summary it doesn’t look mind blowing. When I settle in later, I’ll be most interested to watch the Wolverine, GoW, Control, and TR footage. The next tier of games — Onimusha, SH Townfall, Until Dawn 2, and Dune — are of some interest too. Nothing else from the rest jump out to me right now. Maybe the dinosaur game. Not sure how I’d feel if I booked the day off work and then bought tickets to the Alamo House and bought a $30 slice of pizza, or whatever it was.

Single player age is back. Thought the show was a more than solid honestly. The end of the PS5 era is shaping up to be absolutely stacked just on the first party side alone - Wolverine, Laufey and Intergalactic seemingly releasing in pretty close succession is wild. Then you throw in third party stuff like Phantom Blade, Tomb Raider, FFVII Remake Part 3 etc. and it's a lot to be excited about.
@Oram77 what do you mean? So boring and predictable that Nintendo showed a Zelda game at their show
@Th3solution that Pizza sounded goooood though! 🤤 yeah, the cinema elemenet does feel wierd, but if they are doing it to bring this experience back every time, well... they have to start somewhere, haha. People will get merch for some of the games, too. Right?
But imagine this: being in a bubble away from the internet and someone saying "here is a Wolverine game for you, and also a Tomb Raider game (TOMB RAIDER that iconic franchise) a Silent Hill Game, a God Of War game", and they all look AAA+ in terms of graphics, too... And being... mad at the one giving you that.
That is what gets me, I think 😅 we are spoiled for games, honestly. And there's only a certain amount you can announce for the first time if you aren't working on a bunch of other games yourself, with many more game shows still to come, too.
And also within a week we have had TW3 get a new expansion announced and a new KCD announced, AND a Lord of the freaking Rings game announcement. We are in such good times for gaming if certain 'bad actors' would just stfu and maybe buy and play some games to see if they actually like them or not 😁
When it seems you're out of luck.

I ducked out of a dinner party to try to catch it live and ended up missing that start and Wolverine but the live-chat is always a highlight, @Werehog is a ray of sunshine. I mainly watch it live for player enthusiasm like that. I think the highlight for me was a new Stuntman, it's a really unique series and one with so much potential, especially tie-ins. I quite liked the look of that Tomb Raider game too, it might be my first game in the series, there are too many to know where to start. I would have liked to have seen some Indies but it didn't seem to be that kind of a show, this time. I'm also curious about that Runescape game on Plus+, I checked and it has base-building, that's one of my prerequisites met.
I'm curious to see how well Dune will do, I did try it on PC and it felt a little too much like Conan. By this I mean there is very little there and it's heavily depending on players/the community for gameplay. When I played it was a closed server with content creators and journalists, the world wasn't that busy. I did like Conan but at the time I played it with friends, when I tried Dune on PC (same Developer) it was bland and I stopped after maybe two-hours. It didn't feel buggy or broken, it's just very community heavy and I can't see the PS5 version being different. I'm glad it's coming to console though, fans of the movie might like it. I'm looking forward to seeing how PS5 handles Enshrouded and Valheim (neither were on State of Play) I quite like those on PC and can see them doing really well on console.

@Ravix Well, I said that (about the Alamo Drafthouse) and then I just now watched the Laufey trailer and all I could think was, “Gosh, this looks awesome but on my tiny phone screen I really can’t appreciate the full splendor. This must be fantastic to see and hear on the big screen!” 😅 I didn’t realize the trailer was like almost 20 minutes. I haven’t watched Wolverine yet but I assume it’s probably equally as cinematic and lengthy. Maybe I’d have enjoyed being in the theater after all. 😄
But man, that GoW looks great. Not sure how I feel about the gelatinous cube though. Felt out of place. Hopefully there’s a good sold mythological explanation for “Frank” being there.
But yes, to your point — I’ve felt for a while now that this generation is phenomenal with so many games that I can’t possibly play them all. Those who say we don’t have anything good to play are crazy. Sure, Sony has dropped the ball on a lot of live service fails, but third party has really come through and now some of the Sony studios are starting to catch back up. We’re cooking with grease now — Ghost of Yotei, Saros, Wolverine, Intergalactic, Laufey, and Until Dawn 2. Probably more to come. Concord is a distant memory now, with all that coming. Reckon Intergalactic mid 2027, and maybe Laufey early 2028. We could have at least 5 stellar first party single player games within a two year span, perhaps.
But like you say, adding the other big third party hitters like the Witcher, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, GTA, 007, Tomb Raider and I really feel like I’ll never in a million years catch up.

@Oram77 I totally agree with you. There seems to be a group of users that only appear on the site to spew meaningless negativity, I've no clue what they actually enjoy in gaming.
It's getting late, I might share more on what I liked in the show tomorrow.
Thought it was alright tbh… didn’t hit quite as hard as the last one but the last one was pretty epic. Wolverine and Laufey gameplay looked right up my street!
I had one super long spiel going over every game shown but... I decided to just give my overall thoughts instead and say I really enjoyed it.
I REALLY hope Until Dawn 2 is good. Mom of War looked great. Tokon continues to look absolutely stellar (Carnage and Green Goblin have me hyped!). Wolverine looks fun and yeah it was a very good event imo.
Although... What is up with Onimusha's English dub Capcom? I say this as someone who really only plays Yakuza in Japanese. Everything else is usually I usually stick in English and have a great time with no matter how Japanese coded it is
I've added a fair few videos to YouTube so I can watch them later, but even if I am interested in them I won't get to most of them for an age anyway.
The only game I will be buying out of what is shown is Control Resonate, which I don't need see any more as it comes out in September, so am going dark on that.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
Wolverine looked cool (although the assets and artwork looked straight out of Spiderman, not that that’s a bad thing..); Until Dawn could be fun if they get over how bad their shorter games are supposed to have been since UD1; Control Resonant looks brilliantly bonkers; and I tapped out of GoW as I couldn’t be bothered to watch 20 mins of slow opening gameplay.
Okay overall for me but seemed like lots of stuff for different people. Slightly surprised not to hear anything from Naughty Dog I guess.

Aww, bless your heart, thank you! I'm glad I helped, the sour vibes got brutal in there towards the end. In addition to your good self, shout out to @Gremio108 for bringing all the best dad jokes, @BearsEatBeets and @Herculean for actually trying to discuss and engage with each game, and @Oram77 for being a positive presence. There were a couple other users in there as well who made me smile with their comments, but I didn't recognise them as regular forum contributors.
As for the show itself, I thought it was very strong. Very little in it for me, but everything looked stunning and I'm pleased for fans of everything represented. I do think it was the most blood-soaked State of Play we've ever had, but I'm not gonna criticise that just 'cause I'm squeamish!

@Werehog You're welcome, it might be internet culture in general but I'll never understand being a fan of any kind of hobby and then being so negative about it. I see the opposite at concerts, people are excited to be there, to experience something and are looking forward to the next album release. The same for other hobbies, I don't see negativity like that at race days or track days, it's a different kind of maturity, night and day. I'm a big believer in freedom of speech but I'll never understand why anyone would waste their time to focus entirely on the negative when they could use that time on literally anything else. Perhaps I'm naive, chat did move fast and most of it was overshadowed by people who did see those positives and did want to be there. I remember Sammy saying welcome to the internet last-night and understand it takes a thick skin, wasting ones own precious time? That's the part I'll never understand, if anything it makes me more determined to make the next one. I do use chatrooms a lot on an entirely different network, rarely we talk about games, it's interesting to see people with that enthusiasm in real-time (State of Play) and I did mostly see that, I see those negative comments as existing in the then not the now, the latter matters more.

@Werehog My pleasure, I always find the chat is a good laugh. Perhaps more negative voices than there used to be, but maybe I've just got a selective memory lol
It's just some games at the end of the day, some will like them, some won't. I'm not sure how people can get bent out of shape over it, but who knows what other stuff they've got on their plate in life? If that's how they vent, then best to just leave them to it.
In terms of the actual games, I'm looking forward to seeing more of the new Stuntman, the dino one looks good and against my better judgement, I've got to say I'm intrigued by Ill, purely because of how messed-up it looks.
Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.
@Werehog Lol, it was the most blood soaked SoP we’ve ever seen, wasn’t it? 😂
They really went all-in for the blood and brutality with Wolverine. I know all the preview information we had received mentioned it would be gorey and M-rated, but the SoP gameplay trailer was even more than I expected. I’m not necessarily opposed to some brutality, blood, and gore but it did seem a shade over-the-top. ‘Gratuitous’ may be the word I’m looking for. Like, the enemy is clearly dead, spurting copious amounts of blood on the pavement, but Wolverine just keeps stabbing him 20 more times, then makes triple sure he’s dead by impaling his skull and then decapitating him before leaping for the next victim 😅. There’s gotta be more efficient ways to take down a crowd. 😜 I suspect many people will be glad to have the escalated violence, but it didn’t resonate with me and I found myself less interested in the game overall. I’m still withholding final judgment though. I agree that it has some definite Spider-Man elements in it, the way Wolverine leaps long distances so quickly and pounces around. It actually made me more excited to see what’s cooking for Spider-Man 3.
Well, I know the thread has just been wondering why the negativity, and here I go criticizing the centerpiece game presentation, but I’m not questioning the quality of the game, as it looks phenomenal and is obviously of high quality and fits a particular demand in the market. And I might still be there day 1, we’ll see.
Highlights for me were GoW Laufey (really like that one), Control Resonant, and of course Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which looked quite fantastic. I’m a little disappointed that it’s been pushed into early 2017, despite already taking pre-orders. Seems a far way off. What did you think of this new iteration of Lara’s introductory adventure?
