@graymamba Yup! I think that sums it up for me too. Haven't had a gaming christmas like that in a long time. The Konami segment was a stroke of genius on Sony's end.
Really good show, nicely paced with lots of great looking content.
Shame no VR games which breaks my heart but lots of flat shizzle to look forward to.
The GoW 2.5D game looks a bit iffy though, so waiting on reviews for that one.
@CaptD I think they’ve purposely gone for the old-school pixel-art as a sort of metaphor for taking the story right back tbh. Maybe I’m reading too much into it but if they wanted it too look like Belmonts Curse (which was absolutely stunning btw) theres no reason why it wouldn’t. It wasn’t what I was expecting (I was actually expecting something a bit more like Belmonts Curse tbh) but I found it… I don’t know if charming is the right word but something like that.
@graymamba yeah that was my thought as well. It makes the most sense. I posted on the article how they've been already working closely with SM for years now and after their live service game in the IP was cancelled it would be an ideal project they could quickly pivot to.
@graymamba I'd be a bit less certain on that one but also completely unsurprised if that was the case. Do we know how the PC port and Remaster did? If they sold reasonably well it would help the cause.
@BearsEatBeets the PC port did really well tbh… probably due to it being the first Sony First Party game that made the jump, so there was that fascination aspect at the time. Don’t think the Remaster did that well though, mores the pity.
They are making a movie though, so that could help the cause.
@graymamba wouldn’t we have seen BluePoint cast on the screen? Not saying you’re wrong, but I recall they’ve been working on a new IP. I think this project is primarily Santa Monica.
@Enriesto maybe… but I wouldn’t personally task Santa Monica with remakes when game development is ballooning beyond six years. I’d like to think Santa Monica themselves are concentrating on Barlog’s game and the next ‘real’ God of War game. The Santa Monica branding would always front any God of War spin-off/remaster/remake though, even if they weren’t actually developing it.
@graymamba I didn't know they were doing a movie, that bit of news must have passed me by.
One of my main doubts is one of the creative leads of the original (can't remember the name) left the studio and there seemed to be some issues so not sure about the studio's desire for the IP.
Still, similar to Bluepoint, Bend would need to quickly pivot to a new project after the other game was cancelled and unless they had plenty of other fleshed out ideas a Days Gone sequel would be the most logical. Greenlighting a movie clearly shows some faith in the IP then. Hopefully if it is the case they might be able to make up for some of the lost time wasted on the other project and get it done a bit sooner than something else.
I always wanted to see how the teaser ending was going to play out in a sequel.
@Bundersvessel@Werehog Right on the money with Vol. 2! I had just googled news on it earlier in the day blissfully unaware of the State of Play only to wake up to this. Manifestation is real, y'all. To celebrate, I've bought Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta to finally continue the series from 2 after playing that all the way back in 2018... and to be ready in time for this new volume to release and move straight into 4 then!
@BearsEatBeets yeah I ain’t saying it’s happening, just in case it came over that way… just that it’d make sense for Bend in much the same way as this God of War Trilogy: Remake would make sense fir Bluepoint. I’d love it to be true though.
Did games start to feel a bit more 'old school' in this state of play?
I feel like I was witnessing Sleeping Dogs, Infamous, Prototype. (John Wick and Control) Stuff of that ilk where devs would just make cool stuff they wanted to make because it's fun. Weird, but the whole show definitely had a cool, invigorated, old school vibe.
Even though I have no interest in Marathon it kind of felt half decent in production. It had something about it, at least.
There was that game that was quite a lot like Helldivers (4loop?) that made me kind of wish for some single player games with this same feel about them. If I was 15 i'd have been super hyped for something like this, so I hope teens these days start playing some actual games and get off mobile games and tick tock 😁 but if some single player games could match this kind of vibe, it'd be cool to see.
Weirdly, the game i'm most interested in is kind of the least appealing. I hope it's good. But 007 is kind of feeling a bit modern cookie cutter at the moment. That said, it should be a game that is easily carried by it's level design if that is done well, and usually they do excel at level design.
Kena 2 looks really nice. I really need to get around to playing the first. That is a long buried backlog game.
And the horror games had some serious vibes, even though I don't play them, they stand out, and I bet people are pretty excited to get stuck into those.
When it seems you're out of luck.

I believe the lower budget Mafia was a success. And with gaming budgets and development time ever increasing, one might wonder when this AA revival is finally going to happen. Maybe it started yesterday!
