Hi,

I have watched several these early review videos but cannot seem to find any discussion on whether enemy health bars can be turned off i am not a fan of them for me they spoil the look of the game, does anyone here know if they can be disabled.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't found much info on this but the AI info below has just popped up on google so i assume they can be turned off -

AI Overview

Yes, in Assassin's Creed Shadows, you can turn off enemy health bars, allowing for a more immersive experience where you have to rely more on visual cues to gauge an enemy's health status; this option is available in the game's settings to adjust the level of HUD information displayed.
Key points about enemy health bars in Assassin's Creed Shadows:
Customizable HUD:
You can modify the amount of information displayed on the screen, including the option to remove enemy health bars completely.
Focus on visual cues:
Without health bars, you'll need to pay attention to enemy animations and reactions to understand their health status.
Gameplay impact:
Turning off health bars can make the game more challenging, especially for players who rely heavily on visual indicators.

I pre-ordered the game but will likely not be playing day 1 because I need to finish another first

That being said, I think it looks great in the recent videos and I'm frankly amazed how negative some people are towards it. You could say that Ubi worked hard to deserve that but it's quite baffling nonetheless.

There is a lot of negative stuff especially on social media many calling it a poor Ghost of Tsushima copy.

What i have noticed is reviews from gamers who have actually played it are on the whole good and as a gamer who loves the assassins creed series i am not going to be put off by a bunch of band wagon jumping haters who have only judged the game on how it looks by watching the odd video that is on social media.

I bet most of them have watched the video on a phone and haven't a clue what it looks like, i have watched them at 2560 x 1440 pixels (i don't have 4K monitor) and it looks great.

I will be getting it on day one

It's coming out at the wrong time for me, but i'll be buying it to play at some point. I like the modern set of AC games, even if they aren't as well written as I'd like, I still enjoy the historical fiction aspect and setting of them. And the gameplay is usually a mix of fairly easy comfort food gaming, but also pretty damn satisfying when clearing bases and the like, as you collect evidence, or complete tasks as you climb around hopping out of places to occasionally assassinate.

From the trailers I don't really like that you have to hit someone in the head and neck with a sword 14 times as Naoe to kill them, but it is what it is and it is a lot more arcadey in certain aspects. But hopefully the hidden blade makes up for that. The fighting style of Naoe did look really appealing to me though, but I'm not sure I'll be able to enjoy that if it is a case of her damage being reduced because she is smaller, as it clashes with what I'd expect from a sword to the neck. I'm aware that some of these things you notice more in trailers rather than when playing though, and I've never actively disliked the gameplay in AC so far, so it should be fine.

I’ve done something that I’ve always advised against… I’ve gone full Ubisoft and pre-ordered. It’s about time really as I’ve always ended up picking their games up very inexpensively… and invariably gone on to have a great time. So for what it’s worth with the current state of the company, they have the full-wad.

A heads up -

I was going to buy it from the PS store but having seen the prices i am now going to pre-order from ARGOS its only £56.99 and you get a disc to trade later if you wish, Ubisoft are charging £59.99 and PS store £69.99 which is a rip off.

I have pulled the trigger and it'll be delivered on the 20th or 21st by royal mail, i don't mind waiting the extra day if necessary as having the disc version means i can get money back when i eventually trade it i am not one of those gamers that collect games i would rather have cash to put towards the next purchase.

For more precise guidance, you can also deploy scouts via the map. These reveal any objectives within the area they’re assigned. While I only touched upon the system, it felt a nice compromise for players who prefer more direct guidance and those who want the immersion of exploration. Thankfully, it was also possible to reduce the level of HUD clutter on-screen, though anything below the Simplified setting also removed the health bar, making fights significantly more challenging.

This is a thorough review of the game that is worth it for me. This guy is not one from the clickbait/passionate/agenda hate crowd. He talks about every aspect in the game.

He was provided a review key couple of weeks ago, so he was able to play the game a good amount.

Ulverstonian

I stopped watching at 8 minutes he is obviously not a fan of the assassins creed games as he says he hasn't played one for years and then goes on to moan about micro transactions and drivers.

I haven't seen many negative reviews so as a fan i am expecting to enjoy it.

Played about two hours and I feel extremely whelmed. Just feels like all the gameplay and all the story I've experienced so far, I've experienced before and I sorta dunno what to do with that feeling. Cause none of it has been actively bad so far and I didn't exactly expect a Ubisoft game to reinvent the wheel, but if you're going to do literally nothing new, why even make this to begin with?

You only get to try Yasuke very briefly before moving into an extended section where you play as Naoe. The introduction for her in open combat was not fun for me, but probably the most fun I've had in the game so far is when they left me to my own devices to infiltrate an enemy base as Naoe.

Sometimes the game looks quite nice, other times it looks weirdly dated. I love the detailed animations for basically everything, but it never quite controlled as well for me as it looked. The whole layout just feels weirdly clunky to me.

I've also died twice already when I just couldn't attack? The first time I thought it was my mistake as I was using tools and thought I misunderstood how to put them away and switch my weapon. But the second time I just couldn't attack all until I died and reloaded the checkpoint, making me think both instances were bugs.

I wanna put more time into it over the weekend, but nothing about that opening hour has really lit any fire in me and with Xenoblade X being out literally the same day, if that grabs me in the first hour in the way this really hasn't, I can kinda see myself forgetting about this game entirely being honest.

Life to the living, death to the dead.

These types of games have been around for years (Ghost of T etc) i was not expecting them to make huge changes i am glad you have enjoyed it so far.

Could you let us know if enemy health bars can be turned off, thanks.

Why does it take so long to install 107 GB when you have the disc?

It appears Assassin's Creed Shadows will demand roughly 107GB of SSD space when the time comes to install the new Ubisoft open worlder on PS5. The game is available for preload on Xbox Series X|S and is taking up the aforementioned amount of space, so it's expected the PS5 version will be similar in size. The PS5 preload for Assassin's Creed Shadows goes live much closer to launch, on 18th March 2025

5 hours in and loving it so far, i have never been the type of gamer who wants to remember several button combinations for attack and defence so i am more than happy with the combat i like games to flow and i hate having to replay parts over and over because i forgot which buttons to press, like most games some will like it some will hate it i am the former and am glad i paid full price and got it early rather than wait for it to appear on the used market like i normally do.

My copy turned up around 4pm but I’m not in any rush… I still have Rogue, Syndicate, Valhalla and Mirage to go first but as a fan of the series I think it looks great.

Glad that @Ulverstonian is enjoying it as they seemed particularly excited for it… it’s a rare thing where the final product satisfies unbridled excitement so you gotta be happy with that 👍

I watched enough positive and negative review videos to know what to expect, being a bit of a pedant i do wonder how some dodgy dialogue made it into the final game but its not a deal breaker just a little irritating.
