@nessisonett Thanks for sharing that, confirms my fears and suspicions about traversing the open-world. Do you know on what grounds you were selected to play the closed network test? Did you utilise any of the multiplayer features?
@TheBrandedSwordsman I just applied for it and was lucky I guess! The multiplayer features just outright didn’t work when I tried, none of the summon signs worked and I couldn’t invade either so I put that down to the servers being all over the place as it’s a network test after all! The game does play well but I do think that’s down to the Dark Souls 3 elements than the new ones. The main thing I hope is better in the full game is the little dungeons in the open world, they’re just a bit rubbish. Every one I went into was just a couple corridors with a few enemies and a chest at the end. Really hope there are more interesting ones elsewhere in the map.
@nessisonett Would you say someone who has completed Dark Souls 3 more than once doesn't stand to gain much from playing Elden Ring then? N.B I think the boss you are referring to is Margit the Fell Omen, the one with the scorpion tail is that correct? I assume you took it down in the end? You could still customize your build a little within the demo right? Leveling up and whatnot. No time for rune (soul) - farming though obviously, so maybe that's what you were referring to?
I seem to remember the network test for Dark Souls 3 being in a similar state that seemed to be ok when it launched, so personally I'm not concerned with reports of things being iffy.
I know some people around the Web will compare this to something like Cyberpunk, but the circumstances are very different as FromSoftware have kept mainly the same core team together and not have a huge uptick in recruitment, so I'm confident they will be able deliver when the game launches. Not to say it's gonna be perfect on release, but not many games are these days.
@TheBrandedSwordsman Yeah, that’s the boss and it was indeed a very good one. You could of course level up in the demo but there’s no way you could make any meaningful differences with the time that you had and the low levelled enemies giving you barely any runes. I’d definitely say you’d get something out of it if you’ve played Dark Souls 3, it’s a new game after all and while it’s 100% just Dark Souls 4, there’s enough there that you should really think about buying it.
@colonelkilgore Did you see the recent quotes from the recent Miyazaki-san interview where he talks about the game a bit more? He said he probably won't play it because there won't be any unknowns for him going in, he already knows how every piece of the puzzle fits together, it's personal policy for him not to play his own games, but he also said, if he did play it, it'd probably his ideal game and a culmination of what FromSoft were doing in Dark Souls and their other games.
"Even in the face of death, the samurai stands unwavering, for honour is a blade sharper than steel".
@TheBrandedSwordsman yeah I did hear something to that effect… it makes sense to me tbh. After pouring your heart and soul into something for 4 years or so, the only real satisfaction you could get from it is listening to the fans gush.
Funnily enough though, I’d pay money to watch Miyazaki play non-From souls-likes… I think that’d be really interesting.
@colonelkilgore Some more info for you here, avoid if you don't want a description of a boss that hasn't been described before. Let me know what you think, if you read.
@TheBrandedSwordsman although it didn’t give too much info away, it still served to ramp up my excitement a little further in fairness. All of Miyazaki’s work has always been pretty mature but this sounds like it’s taken it to 11 (which I’m all for).
What will @Th3solution playing Demons Souls and @velio84 playing Bloodborne… I’m well in the mood for some From Soft action, so just can’t wait!
@velio84 These things usually can be sold for a fair price a few years down the line. There is an art book that I wish I got when it first came out for about 30 quid and it is now a couple hundred quid.
I just hope the statue isn't too heavy for my new display case! 😂
While currently playing DeS and enjoying my second official (disregarding my very short time with Dark Souls 1) FromSoft game, I have a new measure of excitement for Elden Ring. However, a lot of my enjoyment comes from knowing I can look up resources, assistance with builds, boss strategies, walkthroughs if I get stuck, etc, etc. Along with the help from my PushSquare mates, I really have enjoyed Bloodborne and Demon’s Souls. So for me, I think I’d be better off waiting a while and not playing Elden Ring at release. I’m sure it will take a few months if not longer for the internet library of walkthroughs, builds, secrets, and boss strategies to start to reach a level of usefulness.
I respect all y’all who want to be the trailblazers and go in blind with no access to help. But for me, I think it might sour me to the experience if I don’t have some guidance.

@Th3solution I get that mate, if that’s how you feel you’ll get the most out of it… it sounds like a good plan. How are you doing on Demons Souls btw, I haven’t caught any of your updates lately?
@Th3solution You will be surprised how much gets out there early doors. Some people played a lot of the network test, so will be able get a lot of info from that. Plus there should be review codes out early too. But I get your point, guides and walk walkthroughs will be more complete if you leave it a awhile to play it. Plus you don't wanna burn yourself if you are still playing Demon's Souls.
I have Elden Ring pre-ordered, but similar to yourself - I certainly have hesitation about diving in with the 'blind' approach!
When it came to DeS, I think the most helpful support for me was going straight into the game with total conviction and pre-meditation regarding the build I was aiming for (DEX). So from the very beginning I had a plan as to what resources I would harvest, and where to allocate my stat points. As I was shooting for the plat, I also used a loose guide to support me with world tendancy characteristics etc etc.
However, I still intend to give ER a shot blind... My DeS walkthrough playthrough was actually mainly done to 'prepare' me for ER, which I do genuinely want to experience outside of guides/walkthroughs. Hopefully, and I believe it is the case, there are no convoluted 'tendency' characteristics to manage... so assuming I can get a grip on a decent build then it should be do-able?! (famous last words)
If it becomes too gruelling then I might double back and play Horizon FW instead. Alternatively I am still en route to getting the plat for GoT...and haven't even begun to dip into the Director Cut additions such as Iki... so I might not be finished there
@colonelkilgore I didn’t get much playtime last week. I’ll drop a little update about what I accomplished today on the thread.
@JohnnyShoulder@CJD87 These From games are excessively deep. I think there will quickly be walkthroughs to help players with certain progression points. But the intricate attribute scaling also weapon detail, as well as all the secrets will probably be things that will trickle in for quite a while. I know the people that are hard core about these games will rush to get their videos and guides up first though.
It’s just I’m so amazed how complex the systems are for these games. For instance, a lot of the upgrade equipment is only present once in the whole game, so once you use it for something, it’s gone and can’t be used for something else. And since the games don’t have save files to go back to, every thing you do in the game is permanent. As an example, I always look up on Fextralife or Demon Souls Wiki before I use a boss demon soul to make an upgrade or purchase a new spell, because some of them can be used for other things later. If I didn’t have a guide I’d be ‘wasting’ my souls, so to speak. For people who are going to play NG+ and NG++, it might not bother them, but with my schedule, I need the 60 hours spent in the first run to be as complete an experience as possible. 😄
But the other reason I’ll not buy ER day 1 is because I’ll probably still be playing Demons Souls when it comes out. 😅

@CJD87@Th3solution Although I intend on playing Elden Ring as soon as ‘possible’, I’ve decided that I’m gonna play Horizon Forbidden West when it releases and my playthrough of that will almost certainly run over into the release of ER.
The crowd, accepting this immediately, assumed the anti-Eurasian posters and banners everywhere were the result of acts of sabotage by agents of Goldstein and ripped them from the walls.
