@velio84 this video might be useful just for pointers in terms of strategy (or if you're like me your reaction might be "welp, guess I'm just bad at Elden Ring" )
This is an easy way to defeat the villains in the game I was struggling for more than 3 hrs!
It's nice to have finally finished the game, can finally get up to speed with what the speedrunners are doing.
Just today the record speedrun has gone from 14mins 8 seconds this morning to 12 mins 32 seconds this afternoon!
And in all honesty the speedruns barely even spoil anything now, the only boss they even really fight is Maliketh - you'd have no idea at all what's actually going on in the game if you watch one
Have had a busy night - I'm now precisely one achievement (I'm playing on Steam, so they're not called trophies ) from the "all achievements" achievement (platinum sounds better). And that achievement is....
Margit the Fell Omen!!!
Obviously I beat him a while ago, but this has been a gaping hole in my achievements for a while. I managed to beat him when the servers were down so I had to play offline, and it turns out there was a bug at the time (with ER specifically I think) where if you earned a trophy offline it never synced in Steam
Beat Malenia on NG+, then switched to HFW and fought the snake boss in the first area and it’s not a fair comparison but just saying the difference in forgiveness is hilarious. I mean, sure the snake is basically a tutorial boss but ER’s tutorial boss kills you
As for me, after beating Rannala I went and started exploring Caelid.
There are some pretty tough standard enemies in that area! I slowly edged my way round and took a few goes to take down the dragon mini boss in the south of that area. Wandered around the swamp and ended up giving up on the mini boss in that region.
Then off to Redmane Castle which was fairly tough but took down the duo boss with a summon (which made it quite easy to take on the big knight fella). Kind of disappointing that there wasn't much else there though after all of that.
So then back to Caelid and met Gowry en route to Selia. Back to the swamp and cheesed the mini boss with poison arrows. Cleared Selia no problem and have been exploring around the area for the moment.
During the ad breaks in the F1 coverage they played a commercial for Elden Ring. Even had the cool theme music. I thought that looks awesome, I want to play that 😆
I lost the river blood katana because I killed the fire giant without knowing the existence of it. I'm looking for someone who hasn't got it yet to go in game with it get it
@velio84 Do you know if going to someone else gameplay works for loot? I haven't tried yet, but I want to make sure the person will also receive the katana. Otherwise I'll have to wait until NG+
@velio84@Jimmer-jammer Yeah, I’ve heard of the festival but thought there might be more in the castle after such a fight to get through it! And yes, I spoke to Jerren there too.
I’ve cleared most of Caelid and Dragonborrow now. There are just a couple of caves I’ve missed when I look at online maps. I’m just surprised there wasn’t a main boss in that area (yet) but some good mini bosses, particularly the multiple dragon ones. And they are pretty generous with their rune drops!
I left the guy outside of the Beast Sanctum well alone though (particularly as I already got the shortcut to get inside).
I cleared Siofra River over the weekend and made a start on Altus Plateau. In two minds whether to carry on or do more in Caelid, which I dipped into earlier. Totally forgot you can get there just by following the path north-west of Limgrave! 😂 Think I went to go there way earlier but turned round when I saw where it was heading.

@Jimmer-jammer I did the Weeping Peninsula, Limgrave, Stormveil, and the Lakes of Liurna/Raya Lucaria before doing Caelid/Dragonborrow.
Just Godfrey and Rennala from the main bosses defeated.
So now I guess it’s time to head north from Raya Lucaria but I might revisit Stormveil first.
@JohnnyShoulder It’s quite cool that we’ve taken quite different paths to seemingly be at a similar point.
I backed out of Siofra previously as the enemies were too strong so maybe that can be another place to distract me from the “proper” path for a bit longer..
One of the things I don’t like with all the From games is how difficult they make levelling up weapons for you.
They give you an almost ridiculous variety of weapons but normally a quite limited amount of items available to improve them so I end up worrying I’ll use items on a weapon I subsequent don’t like and miss out being able to upgrade one I would like to try.
Like, I think Bloodborne only gave you one item in the whole game to raise a weapon to the very top level? It just seems pointlessly restrictive to me.
@Jimmer-jammer I think it is to balance the game so that you can't get a too OP weapon early doors. I've got my main weapon at +high teens with a couple more at +low teens.
I did have a nosey round Caelid earlier, and have to say I really like the crazy AF enemies. Reminds me of something that could be found in Bloodborne. Didn’t stay too long, only enough to unlock two or three graces.
I might go back there later, but for now I went back to Altus Plateau and went North-west to see if I could loop round to get a map fragment behind Volcano Manor. But no joy as it was a dead end, with an area with a load of those Abductor Virgins. One of the first things I do when get to a new area is try and make a bee line to the nearest map fragment.
So instead I went east and fought my way into the Capital City outskirts. There were two phantom trees I found with two golden seeds at each of them. Bargain. There was one enemy which I had scarper from, which inot had to do in awhile, as I was doing hardly any damage to it. Turns out I had accidentally selected my magic staff and was attempting to kill it with that! 😂
Anyway, I ended up at secret-ish cave and ended the night there. If you can't tell I flippin love this game. Every night in bed I'm thinking about where to go next or what I could do different against an enemy I struggled against.

@JohnnyShoulder kill the sleeping dragon in caelid, It'll net you 75k runes and is a nice little headstart in the beginning. Might need some time though till it dies, using a bleed weapon will speed it up. It's in the north east corner of caelid, just use the jump pad with torrent by the minor erd tree.
@JohnnyShoulder I think I know where you mean, in terms of where you were trying to find the map fragment in Mt Gelmir. Were you at the bridge that ends up being a dead end (the bridge is broken and the next part is too high up to get to)?
If so, there's actually a rope ladder you can climb up, but it's really hard to spot. It's on the cliffs on the left hand side, as you go from the site of grace (Bridge of Iniquity) to the dead end (near Corpse-Stench Shack). I found it really hard to spot despite knowing that it was there, but it's there, and that'll let you get to the higher bits
