after 2 solid days of playing demon souls this is what i found...
my fan is VERY quiet (unless i press my ear on the console then i hear a very low hum)i have had no downloading issues or crashing issues and in terms of disc noise theres utter silence BUT i do hear my disc drive a TINY bit for about 5 to 10secs then is back to silence.
@TheIdleCritic Hey dude, I didn't forget about you. I tried to record some noises for you but my phone was having difficultly picking it up. All you can here is rustling when I'm moving the phone and in one instance where I hit my foot. Neither I doubt you'd want to hear!
Interestingly though I just came upon this article which may be of interest:
@BraveLilCrumpet Oh no?! I'm so sorry you caused bodily harm to yourself to help me out
That's all good, man. As a matter of fact, just today, Sony have picked it up to see what's up. I'll stop short to say it's definitely coil whine, but I will say it's not the fan. I've obsessively listened to it for the past few days. I can hear the fan and it's fine. Can get a bit loud but nothing I have any issue with. The whining/vibrating noise however is accompanying it. It's certainly something else. Perhaps the fan is causing it, but it isn't the actual fan itself. I can hear it under normal conditions sat 3 metres away.
Also, my DualSense already had enough haha. The R2 button has become very loose, so Sony picked that up too. I hope I get them back soon. But at least I know I've sorted the issues early and have a new console that's been looked over and fixed, and hopefully going forward it'll be clear sailing.
@PS5_Owner I think that's normal. Both my new and previous PS5 do it. It doesn't bother me as it's intermittent and only lasts a few seconds each time. At least I know it's working as the rest of the time it's pretty quiet!
EDIT: OH... Oh no! I just watched your link... mine isn't like that... just a normal but loud disc drive sound. My goodness. My condolences.
@PS5_Owner Less than two weeks. Be prepared to wait for up to an hour on the phone (I do not blame Sony for this at all as I'm sure it's hectic there and being on hold does mean you're in a queue).
I told them the problem and the serial number that's on the bottom of the console, got the pre-paid label via email while still on the phone. Sent it next day. Got it back around a week later. Painless. Annoying that my unit had a problem but the service isn't bad.
I had to send in my DualSense today too as the R2 button is faulty. Weird that I had to give them my PSN ID and a copy of my console receipt. But it's the more or less the same process. Anticipating getting it back within the same time frame. I'll use an old DS4 for now!

Great, I shall request a replace and fingers crossed it can be sorted. Did you have to find a box to send it back or did they supply the packaging?
2 weeks turnaround is not bad, i expect that to be a little more being over Xmas time.
That sucks about your controller, seems like you have got great service so expect another quick turnaround.
@PS5_Owner you have to find your own box unfortunately. But because it's pre paid you don't have to worry about weight, so I stuffed and padded it out it so much it nearly exploded. Better safe than sorry.
@PS5_Owner That's exactly how mine sounded the first time I turned it on! Luckily it seems to have settled now (God knows how or why!). Glad to hear you've got a replacement coming!

Thanks mate, mine is not constantly like it when a disc is inserted or installing a game it’s intermittent, but most of the time it does.
When it’s finished what it needs to do it is silent.
Would anyone know the turnaround in the UK? Royal Mail tracking says it was delivered on Friday but the status has not changed on the playstation tracker for the repair.
