Topic: Backwards compatibility and external storage, will they play?

I saw a Youtube video recommending I save my PS4 games to an external storage device, thus saving space on the PS5 drive. I am wondering though if the PS4 games will be playable from an external drive (non SSD) because I know that is not the case with PS5 games.

Love to hear a yes on this one because I have some time before Gran Turismo 7 will be available with all the PS+ free content it seems like getting a PS5 when more are available is worthwhile. One game is not a deal-breaker to have to load onto the PS5 drive but, I do have a few others I would like to have the option to play as well.

@wake2skate All the games (bar the few they listed) that run on a PS4/Pro, can and will run on a PS5 via the USB external HDD (or SSD).

However, PS5 games MUST be installed to the internal SSD and cannot (at present) be moved to an External storage.

It makes sense to store your PS4 games on an external USB storage and run them from there and keep your internal purely for PS5 games only.

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
