Topic: Will anything ever beat Rocket League for free games on PS Plus?

I've been playing Rocket League since my brother got it for free with Playstation Plus and I've since bought my own copy for the whole £16 (or regional equivalent). It's free availability massively boosted awareness and sells of the game and was a success for Sony as it showed they could give people great games with Playstation Plus on the PS4. It's not only great business wise, but its also it's one of my favourite games ever as I've played it for 100+ hours and it's ridiculously fun. It also helps me meet new people on PSN and gives me a lot more laughs than any other PS4 game. But has any other? No. Also, it's definitely the best multi-player game on the PS4, and is one of the only ones — and it was first made available to players for free. My question is, is NBA 2K16 (as an example, and yes, it is a good game) as good a game to have on there as Rocket League? Is it really as good a find? Is it as good a game in general? And will any game ever beat it as a free game on Playstation Plus?

PS. This is my first forum thingy, so this might have been written differently to other posts. Oh well!

@Speedy67: there is possibility of rocket league being "beat" as the best psplus game. But to answer your question you would need to be able to predict the future . And i'm not Nostradamus.

Its easy to predict that IGC will have a better game than Rocket League. Well from my perspective that isn't hard!! Point is, what I think is better, you may not and vice versa. I didn't think Rocket League was great myself and could easily name a number of games offered since that I consider better, more fun etc so its personal opinion! Its also possible that IGC will never have a better game from your opinion - if that ends up being your favourite and best game this gen, then no game will be better or more fun!

Rocket League was just perfect for PlayStation Plus. The game always would have scored well critically, but I think a lot of people would have passed on it if it wasn't free. And it's the kind of game that needed a huge playerbase from day one in order to work properly.

So the gamble really paid off for them.

It'll probably be a long time before there's a better fit for the service, but I'm sure there'll be many equally great games given away in the future — even if they end up being "different" kinds of experiences.

Yep it's exactly as @BAMozzy: said its all a personal opinion. I know alot of basketball fans are very pleased with NBA 2K16 and will say that is the best game they have ever offered. I personally think Dust was the best so far and others will have other choices.

Just like I don't think Rocket League is the best multiplayer game on the PS4, that one would go to Black Ops 3 for me but that's a different topic in itself.

Dragon's Dogma is still my favorite game I have got off PS+.

@Tasuki: yes but Black OPS 3 wasn't free or never will be free on psplus. Which is the op's entire point.

@Splat: I wish I had locked that in at that time but I didn't forsee me getting a PS3 or Vita at the time.

I think Rocket League was the most succesful Playstation Plus game to release thus far. It really helped the franchise, the multiplayer community and it was generally a great reviewed game. I don't know if something like that will happen anytime soon, but it could of course.
Like @get2sammyb said, it was perfect for Plus.

And yes, it has been one the best Plus games I got for PS4, although Towerfall, and Grim Fandango were great as well.

@Speedy67: BO3 does local MP and co-op in Zombies and the campaign too...

In fact you can play couch co-op and online at the same time as well - you and a friend together and connect to play with others online...

I didn't like Rocket League at all. Personal opinion aside, it's blatantly a great game. Will there be a more highly regarded and played PS+ game in the future? Can't say for sure, but not likely.

I would have never have bought Rocket League it was ok for about a month not touched it since and have deleted it. Its an ok game but there have been a lot of good games I have enjoyed on PS Plus. Maybe not played them as much but sometimes you do not need to play a game mutliple times to appreciate how good it is.

If your asking about Black Ops 3, yes you can.

@Speedy67: In Black Ops 3, you can play all modes of play: Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies, in both local and online split-screen. You can play through the Campaign in 2-player split-screen, local and online. Both Multiplayer and Zombies support 4-player local split-screen, and 2-player split-screen online.

@Tasuki: Didn't actually know 4-player splitscreen on BO3, that's great news COD's still making that available.

Rocket League is amazing. It looks a bit crap the first time you play, but pick up a few mates and skills and its the best team based multiplayer game I have played since Bomberman. Pure gameplay, 60fps, good controls, adjustable fovs, pain, agony, despair, jubilation, excitment and adrenaline. Top top game. I cant look at games in the same way anymore - this game does football better than FIFA. It takes time to get good, but you can still pull off a match winning save or score that et goal if your pants.
