Topic: Which PS4?

I'm in a bit of a dilemma, I have just enough money to get a second hand PS4 Pro. Or I could get a second hand PS4 Slim and save some money on the side. Both come with 1TB and a controller + cables. What I'm wondering the most is if the Pro version performs a lot better than the Slim version Fps wise etc. I don't have a 4K TV and dont plan on getting one anytime soon so how big of a difference would that make between Pro and Slim graphicswise? I should probably just get the Slim version but looking for some reassurance

TLDR
PS4 Pro or Slim:
Is there a FPS difference?
Is there a graphics difference with an older tv? (I don't have a 4K TV)

@zeeqoz Take the Slim version. I bought a Pro before I had a 4K TV and I don't see the benefit. It takes up more space, is louder (the fan) uglier and you can use the money for a nice game or two.

That being said, if you're thinking about buying a 4K TV with HDR soon, then it's a different story.

!!! I do have to add that some games will run at a higher frame rate on PS4. Sometimes the difference can be 30-60 or sometimes it just provided a more steady frame rate. If that is important to you, it might be worth the money.

There is the boost mode on the Pro which is kind of cool, and you’d still benefit from that on a 1080 TV. It does iron out some of the frame rate issues on certain games.

But largely it’s pointless without a 4K set. You’ll never appreciate the benefits of super sampling unless side by side in my opinion, and really the Pro can be SO loud.

Maybe check out on YouTube what the benefits of boost mode are, and unless there are clear advantages for games you intend to play and you don’t plan on getting a 4K TV, get the slim!

If you have the choice then Pro all the way. It's the better console. Even if you feel super sampling is negligible on a 1080p screen, you still get the other benefits.

As for fan noise I must be lucky because my launch day Pro is whisper quiet. Only 2 games have ever made the fan crazy loud, Concrete Genie is loud on booting the game but calms down after 5 minutes or so and Furi, which was actually fixed with a patch.

The slim sounds like it suits your needs best imo.

Yeah only the newer models of the Pro have the new chassis which apparently sorts out the loud fan. I say newer, they are from late last year, but you would be lucky to find one second hand.

I’ve had all three PS4 models. The PS4 Pro does support PSVR and give a better VR experience. The slim, however was $299 and included an excellent physical game complete with box. So unless you are doing VR or have a 4K TV, get the slim.

The PSVR is the best VR system on the market today.

@KidBoruto Yeah what Ryall said. It is labelled the 'Gamma' chassis. I got the dates wrong, it was November 2018 it was out. It certainly felt like late last year. Time sucks during lockdown lol. Can you not hold out till ps5 is out? My base ps4 is on its last legs now but should be OK until for a couple of months.

@KidBoruto Fair enough. Hopefully all will be revealed on Wednesday.

@KidBoruto I think that will be for mostly third party stuff then any details about the console.
