Started playing BioShock 2. Can't believe it's been several years since I played the first one. I think it's cool that you get to play as a Big Daddy and explore Rapture underwater, which is something that was missing from the first game. I'm curious to see where the story will go in this game.

@Yousef- Same here! I played the most recent Street of Rage, but ditched it after a few levels. Love the art style, but found the gameplay too repetitive. Which is my achilles heel with any game.

Yesss I wasn’t huge on SoR4 either. Feels like a certain magic that can’t be captured again.

I didn’t play 2, but 1 was a huge blast. I played the OG PC version which I do think is the worst, but I had fun anyways. I vibe a lot with the setting. Political dramas always appealed to me and this had a unique and interesting setting and fun gameplay superpowers.

I'm quite fond of Dragon's Crown in particular @Yousef- and Shredder's Revenge was a decent enough time too.

I don't think it helps Scott Pilgrim's case that the levels seem to go on a bit longer then they probably should (along with the high difficulty) which is probably making it drag a lot more then I'd really want for a Beat 'em up.

@HallowMoonshadow oh wow, Dragon’s Crown, that name is old enough to make me nostalgic now. I totes adore vanillaware’s outings.
Shredder’s Revenge is a game I have insane respect for. Textbook definition of timeless classic. I actually have a lot of fondness for all five major turtle eras (1987, 1990, 2003, 2007 and 2012) so I’ll have to pay that game a visit if I get a turtlemania urge kicking in.

Shame about Scott’s level design. Truth be told, I’m more fond of the movie.

@Yousef- Yeah the setting won't have the same impact the second time around but it's great to explore Rapture once again. I am more excited to play BioShock Infinite though since it has a different setting.

@LtSarge BioShock Infinite is fantastic, and my favorite of the series. I only made it halfway through BioShock 2, and it wasn’t bad, but doesn’t have the panache of the first or of Infinite. I always meant to go back and finish off BioShock 2 but never have taken the time.

@Th3solution that’s the one I always look forward to the most, especially after really liking the first one. Hopefully I’ll find the time to continue it. I do have the series.

@Yousef- From a gameplay perspective, I’m not sure how it will hold up. I’m not the biggest fan of FPS, but I think it’s got some decent combat and traversal. The story is what I enjoyed the most and I thought the ending was one of the best I’ve ever experienced.

Looking forward to Judas and what it might bring from the mind of Ken Levine.

@Th3solution After having played BioShock 2 for several hours now, I'm actually enjoying the gameplay way more than the first game's. The drill started out cool but then became redundant once you got other weapons. Then I learned the ability to drill dash, which instantly takes out a regular enemy and is just so much fun to use.

Then there's the hacking mini-game, which is so much better than the first game's. I liked the pipes in the first BioShock, but it just took way too long. The one in BioShock 2 is much simpler where you just have to time a moving needle on a graph to hit a blue or green space multiple times. It literally takes only a couple of seconds to hack now, which is so much more convenient.

The camera makes a return as well, but instead of taking a limited amount of photographs, you're filming everything and there's no limit of how much you can film. Another very welcome improvement to the gameplay.

There's so much I can talk about with regards to the gameplay, but I'm definitely enjoying it way more than the first BioShock's. It's an absolute blast.

@Th3solution I’ll somewhat embarrass myself by admitting prior to playing bioshock, I didn’t have a clue it had super powers. If you want my unapologetically honest opinion, it’s that knowledge that truly tipped me into enjoying it. It’s possible I already knew this, but I always found it bizarre fans never prompted this. What, they’re scared their precious political drama get mistaken for a dumb superhero game? Well I adore both dramas and shooting stuff with lighting. You can enjoy both!
On a more serious note, I do take some blame in my ignorance, because I vividly remember superpowers being a selling point in Infinite, but I never looked into it further.
Truthfully, gameplay is what always tips me. I will eventually play a game with highly praised story, but you must at least make an effort to sell me on the gameplay. I feel that should be a given.

@Th3solution alright, you may wanna pardon me for my sudden tanget. But your FPS comment has made me ponder and realize a few things. One of them was the likelihood you have likely missed out on one of the worst and ugliest eras in gaming, the post-2007 era of FPS games.

Now the golden age of FPS is actually shocking easy to summarize, you have Doom, Half-Life, Quake, Unreal Tourney, Deus Ex, Wolfenstein, System Shock, Shadowman… I can go on. But you get the idea.

Now brace yourself for the funny part; those don’t really matter in the context of what I’m about to say. The golden age was, well, golden. The dark ages though? Well, let’s just say you have likely missed out on horrific demonization and infantilization of foreign cultures. When I was younger, I loved battlefield 3. Now that I’m more mature and sophisticated (so sophisticated in fact, my favorite ps2 platformer is ape escape 3), revisiting battlefield 3 and hearing the dialogue makes my skin crawl. This sadly extended to some non-FPS games like a few mid-2000s one splinter cell game, though forgot which one and frankly I’m not overly interested. It’s best to let some games buried.

From the sound of it you played the good ones doe. Might I recommend Serious Sam 4? Careful, it’s a very serious game!

I'm juggling my free time right now between these 3 video games.

I'm unsure when I'll return to Re: CoM, dislike the cards.

Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories (PS4)
Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix (PS4)
Oddworld: New 'N' Tasty (PS4)

HallowMoonshadow

The Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney collection.

Done the first case which is ridiculously easy and am at the halfway point through the second case Turnabout Sisters.

Really enjoying it so far. The cast is quite charming and funny. I can see why everyone likes Edgeworth. Though he was clearly tampering with evidence and information to fit the narrative and that's just wild that nobody bats an eyelid.

And man they really had to kill off Mia. She had a neat design and seemed like a cool boss... But then I guess the game woulda been Mia Fey Ace Attorney instead... STILL.

Looking forward to playing more!

@Yousef- Sorry, I just realized I didn’t respond to the comment regarding FPS and their golden age/dark age.

Yes, I’ve skipped nearly all military shooter based FPS and even most of the third person shooters that are based around military campaigns. Thankfully for me I don’t particularly gravitate toward modern era military shooters. Still, the vilification and demonization of various cultures, religions, sects, ethnicities, civilizations, etc. is present certainly in many other gaming genres too, but especially in FPS. I can only experience things through the viewpoint of my upbringing in the U.S., but it’s not hard to see how one might feel uncomfortable with the portrayal of certain cultures through Western eyes. When things happen the other direction and depictions of Western peoples and cultures occurs in broad prejudiced strokes it can be a turn-off for me too. But I think most people have realistic and rational expectations about the fictional representation of media, but I have no doubt that many people take things literally about what’s presented. Although there’s value in seeing a diverse interpretation of culture and events, sometimes it’s clear that a viewpoint is solely grounded in hatred or intolerance.

Either way, I’ve found my enjoyment of FPS mostly occurs in the fantasy realm - Titanfall, Doom, Borderlands, SW Battlefront, BioShock, and most recently Immortals of Aveum, etc. So Serious Sam might be one to keep in mind when the urge hits. I also have been meaning to try the Wolfenstein games, but I’m a little concerned about the reported difficulty, since I’m not very proficient in the FPS genre. Another on my radar is the Metro games. And they aren’t FPS per se, but I’m planning to play the new RE games eventually, which are survival horror shooters taking place in first person, so there’s that. 😄

I've played all the main Uncharted games at launch on their respective platforms, but I've been having fun working my way through The Nathan Drake Collection off and on in between other games.

Uncharted 1 is a fun rough draft. Just finished replaying Uncharted 2 and it is still so incredibly good, right behind Uncharted 4 for me as my fave.

Uncharted 3 is my least favorite replay. It has a lot of great character interactions (I love Cutter so much) and combat enhancements, but the way Nate feels is so bizarre. His legs flop around weirdly on the terrain as you run and he tries to touch every surface he gets even slightly close to, so he kind of looks like a photo-real Sackboy in motion. It's haunting.

My memory is that this is one of the earliest games that was trying to do the whole "this character reacts to the world around them with animations" thing and the tech just wasn't there yet. Ambitious though!

@BuddhaBabboo You’re doing exactly what I’ve been planning. I only made it through UC1 so far and I had hoped to do UC2 at some point this year but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. Eventually though. I’m looking forward to it because I only have played each entry once.

Are you going to play the Legacy of Thieves PS5 Remakes too?

BuddhaBabboo

@Th3solution Oh nice! I'll probably play the PS5 version of Lost Legacy, since I only played that game once. I've replayed Uncharted 4 four or five times, so not too sure I'm up for a replay of it right now. Great games!

Making my way through Final Fantasy X, this game actually have a special place in my life because it was the first ever game I completed all by my self from start to finish, it probably is the game that started my interest in gaming becoming a life habit rather than just a through away hobby.

Even though FF VII and FF IX are my favourite it really does have a very romantic feel to me and playing it again for the first time since I was about 13/14 I can't help but feel the magic again.

Corny as hell I know but who cares! 😅

Absolutely loving Far Cry 5. Incredibly well designed game, great characters and a brilliant map. Genuinely, if this wasn’t made by Ubisoft then it would be regarded as an all timer. Plus it was seriously cool hearing The King Khan and BBQ Show on the ingame radio, have that album on vinyl and it’s probably one of the lesser known ones in my collection.

Fantastic series. Happy to see you finally getting into it!
