@HallowMoonshadow@Yousef-@Ralizah I was a fan of GR as well, although I never completed GR2. Maybe one of these days I’ll go back. It’s been several years so I’d probably have to start over.
GR2 went all in with the open world and it’s quite amazing what it accomplished. I don’t know if I have played another game that has as large and unobstructed a world as GR2. The complete three-dimensionality of the open travel is very impressive. Unfortunately, it makes the game overwhelming and in the end the verticality and depth of the layered areas sapped some of the sense of progression for me and I drifted away from it (ba-dum-tshh… 🥁).

Batora: Lost Haven and will play through it a second time. I like it. I know some games are not for everyone, and some people say a game is terrible without even trying it (because a critic say's so). But people who listen to every critic, are people who can't think for themselves and would rather miss out.
Finally got around to Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection (playing on PS5). All these games are awesome, especially The Punisher, which I had never played before. Maybe not Streets of Rage or the classic TMNTs but still a great beat-em-up.
After watching Furiosia and recognising some of the characters and locations from the game, I downloaded and fired it up. I've already completed the story a few years back, so it is just collectables and challenges left to do. I also fancied something easy going to play this weekend, which I found this was tootling around in my car with Chumbucket in tow, beating up freaks scavenging for loot.
Also forgot how random the controls are on foot, with L2 for jump, L1 to shoot and R2 to run. So that has taken ages getting used to.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

I’ve been mulling it over all day but I’ve finally bit-the-bullet and installed Yakuza Kiwami 2, so that’ll be pretty much the rest of 2024 for me I’d imagine. I played Kiwami 1 back in January 2022, so it’s basically been three years… and if I’m ever gonna make headway with this series, it kinda felt like I had to take the plunge.
I thought the first one was only okay but I’m kinda hoping that the series will hit for me this time in the way that it does for the majority of others around here.
@PorkChopExpress yeah I’m kinda hoping that it’ll all click for me this time. I remember I wasn’t a massive fan of Demon’s Souls when I first played it back in 2011… then I tried Bloodborne at its release (not knowing it was by the same dev and part of the same sub-genre) and couldn’t believe it was what I’d been missing the past 4 years! 🤣
So haven’t actually had a chance to start Yakuza Kiwami 2 just yet… but I did watch a couple of vids on Mahjong this morning to refresh me on how to play it. I’m probably a little bit more excited to play Mahjong (& I’ve heard bloody Virtual On is one of the arcade games available too! 🤯) than actually playing Yakuza atm, hoping that’ll change though.
@colonelkilgore
Yeah I was always drawn to the mini games. The mini scalextric one looked fun, not sure which game that is in. As for Yakuza in general, I’ve tried numerous times to get into the real time action ones but just cannot which is a shame as I always get engrossed in the stories. I’ve found the turn based Like a Dragon ones are the only ones for me.
I think a Sleeping dogs battle system would work wonders.
In other news. Just finished Crysis 1 remastered, my least favourite of the trilogy and wow was the final battle annoying on Delta difficulty which seemed harder than the PS3 version. Lots of crashing as well but only during the final battle.
@CaptD yeah the scalextric mini game was in Kiwami 1, don’t think it’s in 2 but it probably does reappear in one of the later sequels (or even 0 maybe). I didn’t mind the combat of Kiwami from what I remember but the game is just so huge (particularly when going for the plat) that I don’t think there is a combat system around that wouldn’t overstay it’s welcome tbh.
I do have the Crysis trilogy as it goes… kinda banking on it to fill that Farcry-sized hole in my schedule once I’ve played the last two of those that I have left (3 Remake and Primal). From what I gather the Crysis games aren’t quite open-world but they do have fairly large open-areas, do you think they’ll scratch that itch?
@colonelkilgore
Not really too much of a Far Cry feel, they are very open areas but you die so quickly that you can’t play it like Far Cry and you have to be much more stealthy plus you don’t have all the gadgets and boosters that Far Cry has although I think with Crysis 2 (or 3) you can actually improve your weapons etc..
I hope that in all the mess that is happening at Ubisoft that another Far Cry is in the works, I’m sure it is.
@CaptD that’s a bit disappointing actually but… I do tend to play Far Cry stealthily tbh, so maybe it’ll seem a bit more similar to my own play style 🤞. And yeah, I really hope we do see more Far Cry games, not massively confident about it given current Ubisoft though unfortunately.
