@Kidfried The different endings aren’t really the problem, other than having to restart from day 4 or 5 a couple times. The Rapunzel game was the hardest for me. Difficult and long… Still have to score gold on a lot of the stages, which wasn’t necessary for the Catherine (PS3) platinum, but that’s just memorizing the route and timing.
It’s not an easy platinum, but definitely a great game; a special one.
@Kidfried Both are masterpieces in their own way. So I’ll be curious what you think of TLoU2 also.
Speaking of, I’m warming up to try Witcher 3 again when the PS5 update drops. Hopefully it clicks with me this time. I know you’re a huge fan of the game. Do you have plans to replay it?

I’ve been sucked back into Dragon Quest XI through PS Plus thanks to an early Christmas present taking advantage of that Black Friday deal for reduced subscriptions. Forgot how brilliant this game was and although I’m having to start again, it really picks up after a slow start. I still hate the music though, so glad I can use the VIII soundtrack.
@Kidfried Without spoilers, you were towards the later stages of Act 1. Act 2 is where I dropped off last time because my Game Pass PC expired but it was consistently mental, with the quality increasing massively. Dragon Quest games have always melded the tropey silliness with incredibly heavy subject matter but XI doesn’t really hit you over the head with that until everything changes at the end of Act 1! I’d say push on to at least that far and then you’ll know if it’s for you or not.
I’ve now sunk over 30 hours into Dragon Quest XI in a week. Forgot how really brilliant it is, with the Act 2 stuff being mostly new to me as I ran out of Game Pass back when I played it originally. My only gripe story wise is probably the inevitable rapey arc involving an otherwise strong female character, Japan reeeeally love that trope. Otherwise it’s a mostly mature and thoughtful JRPG with one of the best casts in years. Sylvando is one of my favourite characters in any JRPG.
Forgot to actually give a more general post here and say that I've been playing Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous for the past week and a bit.
Early days of course but I will say I've been having a much better time with it then I was with fellow CRPG Divinity Original Sin I earlier in the year.
Of course they're very different games, by different devs many years apart despite being in the same niche with WotR being MUCH more technical in it's mechanics due to being based on actual Pathfinder (An offshoot of D&D) table top rules 😄
My Tiefling (Part demon essentially) is "Chaotic Good" and has been keeping true to that for the crusade against demons of the abyss and taking back the city of Kenabres helping all she can... Though who knows where she'll end up! There have been some choices that made me question what an evil path is like....

@Kidfried I tried Witcher 3 before but I got bored of it after 10-15 hours or so. The dialogue goes on too long and there was a hell of a lot of busywork on the map. Your write up has made me want to try it again though! I did love the Witcher novels, so I should like the game…
Recently I noticed 428 Shibuya Scramble is on PS Plus extra. It’s one of those games I read about at the time, its famous perfect score in Famitsu magazine, and always wanted to play. Played an hour or two so far and am really enjoying it. It’s quite relaxing to play after concentrating so hard on GT7. It has a good sense of humour, and the mechanics seem quite interesting.
Currently at the moment playing Ride 4 ,catching up on this game not played it in a while. Good game but a to reajust to the sensitivity of touch or I'd be wobbly wobbly in places of circuit.
After my first few hours playing [href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vambrace:_Cold_Soul"]Vambrace: Cold Soul [/href] (I am passing the wikipedia article because this game is so unknown) and I got to say: It feels like a bad design and a budget turn-based souls/RPG game. It's as if you see a good recipe for cookies on YouTube, try to copy it and then adding ingredients from a cake recipe, and hoping everything will go alright. It did not.
IMHO, the good elements are the main character's design and the animated segments. Story is generic, but it doesn't get in the way, and the same goes for the encountered characters. The real problem is the combat and exploration mechanic; neither of them are properly explained nor are player friendly. For example, some enemies apply debuffs to you and literally you only see a red dot on the screen with no explanation about the effects, how long do will it last and no idea how to get rid of them. Your best choice is having a guide on your phone while playing it and match the symbol (not even the name of the debuff) with Saint Google's knowledge. There is also the matter of the skills and the advantage/disadvantage against certain opponents. It's like the UI is the final boss, which indicates the problem is more related to poor design choices rather than lack of talent or tools.
Frankly, can't recommend it.
Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town.
I have discovered a trick to get a lot money in that game after watching YouTube video.
I could use the method by planting a lot of mushrooms on mushroom stakes and I could harvest a lot of mushrooms after 4 days. Way more profits than selling the crops and they don't need to be watered for the best part.
This last little bit of DQXI in order to get the platinum is making me want to claw my eyes out. The Wheel of Harma’s final trial is the absolute worst. I literally just have to do that and then the final boss, before tackling the secret boss. At this rate I’ll have to grind to level 99 first, although I’m fairly close to it already.
I’ve been ticking over with a little Assassins Creed: Brotherhood and overall I’m quite enjoying it. While very similar to Assassins Creed 2, I would definitely say that this is the better game. But holy **** it can be frustrating! Been trying to get 100% sync on each memory as I’ve been going through, rather than have to replay the whole damn thing later… and wow… the controls are not conducive to fulfilling some of the requirements. 😅
@KAIRU one of the best games that I played in 2021. It’s fairly AA in terms of production, so is a little rough around the edges but as you noted it plays really well. Also, there are some brilliant boss fights, co-op is… well it’s my fave co-op game ever and loads of replay value as each time you ‘roll’ a world it could be very different from the previous time you played it.
So after a bit of soul searching and I have decided that the next game I will tackle will be The Last of Us. Now Iam quite excited given that its a game that I wanted to play for a long time. Now that also means that I unfortunately had to put an very exciting PS5 title on hold for awhile (but not for to long I hope)..
I should know by now… but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by Naughty Dog’s work again. Made a start on my Crushing play-through on Uncharted today and am just really enjoying it. Never really fancy playing an Uncharted nor a The Last of Us game for that matter… but always end up really enjoying them.
On the Crushing front… it was a bit of a rude awakening at first having played it on Normal back on PS3 (& on my previous PS4 playthrough)… but I think I’ve acclimated now… and am probably enjoying the game more having to focus.
I remember there being a tough section when a load of fast moving undead (or some such) swarm you and I haven’t got that far yet, so I am a bit weary of trying that on the harder difficulty but metaphorically banging my head against a brick wall is par for the course for me by now 😅… so I’ll see how it goes.
@colonelkilgore
I played through all three a couple of years back (with gaps inbetween them) and unsurprisingly decided to attempt the platinums. The crushing playthroughs were the make or break challenge for me and there were a few sections in each game that really tested my ability and determination, think I could happily live the rest of my life without having to hear the death sound effect again. But if I managed to achieve them, with my ever so average skills, then I'm sure you'll be just fine.
I remember much preffering the second and third outings, so I guess you'll have them to look forward to.
Best of luck with it.
@RogerRoger
Only have vague memories of that one, may have been back in my 360 days! If I recall correctly I managed to bungle my way to the ending despite getting just about everything wrong. Was a pretty cool set up for a game though - it's a shame Rockstar subsequently narrowed their focus to seemingly just GTA.
“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
@RogerRoger@LN78 cheers guys, so I managed to get up to Chapter 18 earlier today before logging off, so I think there’s maybe 5 or so chapters left (the hardest ones undoubtedly 😅). I’m back in work tomorrow but plan on trying to get a chapter done each evening after I ‘down tools’.
Ever so slightly off topic, we watched the Uncharted movie tonight as I was in the mood… wasn’t terrible 🤔.
@sorteddan@RogerRoger@LN78 well I’m sure that you’ll all be extremely relieved to know 😉 that my Crushing run on Uncharted is dusted. The part I was fearing was actually super easy, actually knowing what I had to do (having played through it a couple of times before).
Great game! Just a bit of mopping up to do now for the plat and I’ll look forward to playing through Uncharted 2 on Crushing in ooooh… about 6 months. 👍👍👍
