@RogerRoger the game is fine in general. Some things aren’t the same and a few strange decisions. For example, music now plays for the entire race instead of just the last lap. You can’t use the d-pad in the menus, which is odd.
I’ve had quite a few glitches. As mentioned previously.
Very easy platinum for anyone interested. Can be done in a few hours. The hardest trophy for me was “enter a cheat code”. Couldn’t find how to do it last night. Someone posted how to do it in a tweet today, so I got that.
Glitches aside, I enjoyed playing through it again.
@Arugula I wasn't intending to either. But it only needs one play through and you'll prob only be left with 2 or 3 naturally at the end so worth spending an extra hour or so just to grind.
Nioh 2 is so, so good. At first it seems like they've hardly changed anything. But then you begin to notice the small quality-of-life improvements dotted about everywhere.
Basically it's better than the first one in every way, I should have played it sooner.
Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.
@Gremio108 Would it be better to jump straight to Nioh 2, or would I be better off still playing the original game first?
Not that I’ll be likely to do it anytime soon, but I might.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
From a gameplay perspective, yes absolutely. The combat is just that little bit smoother and the enemies are more varied.
From a plot perspective... Well, Nioh 2 is a prequel. It's set something like 200 years before, so it's unlikely that they're linked, but it's possible. If they are, then some of the plot points may lack the impact they would have had if you'd played the first one, I guess. It's hard to say at the moment, but I'll come back to you on that one.
If you get the urge in the meantime, I'd say go for it. It's superb.
Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.
@Gremio108 I actually downloaded Nioh onto my HDD awhile back when it was put on PS+ and I was actually planning to give it a try but I just can’t make myself jump into it yet. I’ve read all the opinions and there are some who dislike the equipment management, lack of enemy variance, and brutal difficulty. I haven’t deleted it off my PS4 yet, depending on when I get my next Soulsborne itch it may be the one I try, but I was leaning toward Dark Souls. But if this one is head and shoulders better than Nioh1 then I’d consider foregoing the first game. I’m not a Soulsborne expert or fanatic like some of the users here so I have to be realistic and say that I’m likely only to play 1 or 2 more of the genre before I get a PS5, in which case it will be Demon’s Souls I will likely go to first. I really don’t think I can play the 5 or 6 leading Souls-like games out there right now
@Th3solution I really loved Nioh, I might have actually enjoyed it more than Bloodborne. There’s a few obtuse mechanics but the FromSoft games have loads too. The stance mechanics and variance of weapons is great though, it felt like a really good mix between the Ninja Gaiden 3D games and the Souls series.
@Th3solution In that case then, I'd go for Dark Souls and then play Nioh 2, otherwise DS will seem hilariously slow if you play it second of the two. And then if you really like Nioh 2, you've got the first game ready to go if you feel the need for some more hardcore samurai action.
But I'll let you know if I suddenly happen across some vital plot point which only works if you've played the first one
Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.
@Th3solution I really enjoyed Nioh as a Souls type game and think it has better combat than those games, but probably not as good as Bloodborne.
As @nessisonett says, the stance mechanic is a neat feature. If you don’t know, essentially each weapon has three stances which go from slow and heavy to quick and light attacks. It allows for really fluid changes in combat without switching out weapons.
I agree the enemy roster is a little limited but I really liked everything else about the game. I never took the plunge with the sequel as there are plenty of other games on my to-do list at the moment.
@Th3solution I loved the combat but hated pretty much everything else about the game. I wouldn't say it was any more difficult than any of From's games though, once you get your head round the combat and all the different systems it has to offer.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
Still playing God Of War (2018) .I think it's a great game but the climbing sections are generally unnecessary.
"Preoccupied with a single leaf, you won’t see the tree. Preoccupied with a single tree, you’ll miss the entire forest. Don't be preoccupied with a single spot. See everything in its entirety...effortlessly. That is what it means...to truly "see." "
After finishing The Last of Us Part 2, I'm jumping between Donut County, Unravel and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Really need to get back to FF-X though!
@KratosMD I literally finished Y4 yesterday! I really liked the multiple characters in the end as it didn't feel liked it was dragging on at any point.
The fighter maker substories with Saejima are quite neat but one of the fighters is utterly useless, even when fully trained up and the internet agrees with his utter ineptness.
Saejima's fighting style is the worst of the group though.
I've just started on TLOU1 and damn opener is still hard hitting, even when you know it's coming.
I'm having to play with subtitles though as the game has a very weird thing where dialogue is so muffled when you're not facing the speaker directly that it's almost indecipherable.
This isn't the best example but shows it to a degree;
@KratosMD@Thrillho I played the first few hours of Yakuza 4 and really couldn’t get into it. I’ll probably try again later on but I’m surprised 3 is considered a low point when I loved that game just as much as Kiwami 2.
@KratosMD Hostess maker is awful. I guess you passed on doing those with Akinaya then? It’s even worse if you want the fashionista trophy!
Fighter maker was at least something different but having to do it with multiple characters was frustrating, especially the one I mentioned. There is a good guide for Y4 online that has a good way of getting through it but it is still time consuming.
I think completing those count as substories though so if you’re going for the substory trophy, you’ll need to do them.
I’m kind of glad they didn’t have the cabaret club minigame again though as it’s so addictive!
As for the weapon for mining, I think the wood you need can be won for getting a certain score on the medium level in the batting cage.
Seeing all this Yakuza talk is making me want to go back to them. I blitzed through 3-6 back-to-back, but obviously I missed alot of side content. I am also fairly close to 100% on 0 so I should probably finish that off.
Currently alternating between Concrete Genie and Tales of Vesperia.
