Topic: The Trophy Discussion Thread

@GirlVersusGame My back has improved some, thanks for asking. Though, I did take the missus shopping for groceries on Sunday and I was still suffering quite a bit of pain and discomfort. Certainly better and continuing to get better though 🙏.

So the length of a plat won’t really put me off a game, though a combination of its length, difficulty, multiple playthroughs and extensive online requirements will give me food for thought. I have quite a few 100 hour+ plats amongst my haul but in the interest of warding off burn-out, I would only go for so many long plats per year (I kinda class anything over 70 hours long… because I generally go over the suggested time-to-plat time anyway). I try to alternate the games I play from one to the next by a number of criteria. Those being genre, length and difficulty. For example, the next game up after The Witcher 3 (100-150 hours, 7/10 difficulty, open world, melee) will be Resident Evil 3 Remake (25 hours, 4/10 difficulty, linear, shooting). Then I’m thinking about doing Until Dawn (15 hours, 3/10 difficulty, interactive horror… and yes I know that is horror followed by horror but it is Halloween and all 🧟‍♂️), then something multiplayer (we’re still narrowing down what that will be).

In terms of Crimson Desert, I don’t actually own a copy yet but I do fully intend to play it at some point… and if I intend to play it, I intend to plat it 😉. I think having The Witcher 3 partially finished on my trophy list was acting as a kind of psychological block for me when considering anything else similar though. I had no interest in @Oram77 ‘s recent game Blood of the Dawnwalker (congrats btw), nor The Witcher 4 (though I’ve always had a bit of interest in Crimson Desert for some reason)… but now that The Witcher is done, I’m definitely looking at them through a different lens. It’s like my subconscious wouldn’t allow me to feel anything for them at the time, as I knew I still had work to do 😁.

Platinum #173 - Hellraiser Revival

So I said in my previous post about there being a big gap between my latest platinums and this game was one of the reasons, two trophies were bugged and were unattainable, but literally just turned my PS5 on turn and saw there was a patch and lo and behold they are fixed!

Right, so they game itself, honestly I LOVED every second of it, they absolutely nailed the atmosphere of what Hellraiser should be! it had no right being this good but here we are. Revival is such a appropriate title as I think they have brought Hellraiser back into the forefront of horror as let's face a lot of the movies are.... woof.

Gameplay gave me massive condemned vibes and I mean that in the best possible way, look I'm not saying this is a master piece because it does have flaws but for the price I think it's well worth it. Oh @AaronBayne it's not too late to change your score

I opened the box and 8/10 came out

Marvellous game and one that should be in with a shout for GOTY.

The trophy list is pretty straightforward with some collectibles along the way. And while I had my worries about getting the one for doing a 30m unsupported climb without falling, I got this fairly easily in the end.

@Thrillho Congrats and that's a great choice for a game of the year, mine is probably Crimson Desert. I think when it comes to such a title there should be a category for Game of The Year Excluding Rockstar, because Grand Theft Auto will become the automatic best for so many people (most likely) I like also that it's a mountain game and your Rugrats is also a mountain, a slope, but it counts. Do you have a next platinum planned or is it to early to know?

@GirlVersusGame Crimson Desert is one I've been intrigued by but it feels like a bit too much of a time sink currently.

It's 007: First Light next for me as I want to try and play a couple more games that have actually been released this year and it was on sale. It's supposed to be a very achievable platinum too which is just a bonus! I'm enjoying the Uncharted/Hitman gameplay so far but I've not got that far at all.

Congratulations to @Oram77 (x3, it seems) @psmr and @Thrillho on those shiny new platinums, and best of luck to the latter with 007 First Light there, too! Here's hoping you continue to enjoy!

@Werehog cheers buddy, you working on anything shiny yourself atm?

@psmr Slowly. I'm working towards the platinum for Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered and I'm closer than ever, but it requires two full playthroughs of all three games, and there's a Photo Mode, so I'm even more distracted than I would normally be. I'll get there, but it won't pop for a while!

I have plenty of quick and easy lists I could complete in the meantime, as well as a few left hanging from the summer's big releases, like the aforementioned 007 First Light and LEGO Batman. I'll eventually get one from the Ace Attorney collection I'm also chipping away at. When it comes to my platinum progress this year, it's been the equivalent of the old "you wait ages for a bus, then three arrive at once" adage, but I'm a lot more relaxed about my trophy hunting nowadays, so it kinda makes sense!

@Werehog aye those Tomb Raider collections are crazy on PS5… pretty sure you get 3 plats per collection on PS4 but only one on the 5! 🤷 Well good luck with that (as well as the other buses queuing up)… I’d imagine it will be a pretty rare one tbh, which are always all the sweeter.
