@CaptD the grind is only required for the one trophy - otherwise the game is pretty chill about what and how much you have to do

Platinum #69 was LEGO Horizon Adventures
The game isn't super interesting or deep mechanically but the LEGO versions of the characters and story are pretty funny, so it was fun enough as a PS+ game.

The trophy for getting all characters to max level is unfortunately a bit of a grind - otherwise it's pretty straightforward and you can do everything in one playthrough easily.

@Voltan Nicely done, although you ain't kiddin' about that grind. Sticking around for that tarnished a bit of my post-game shine, which was a shame.

Got anything special in mind for the big seven-oh?

@Voltan
Nice. I thought this game was ok, it’s main problem was the RRP (imo).
The grind is a bit grim but I took the two player approach which kept it to a minimum although it made the general gameplay slightly less enjoyable.

@CaptD yeah I did the same thing + set the difficulty to the lowest level after completing everything else - at that point it was just about getting the trophy

Platinum #150 is Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake. Both remakes were very well done, especially II. The meat of the changes got made to it. The basic stories are the same, but both games go beyond that. The true ending of II felt like a great way to wrap it all up. It was more emotional than I expected. III is still my favorite of the remakes, but II is a close second. Now I’m waiting for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined.

@MidnightDragonDX One hundred fifty platinums is a very impressive milestone to reach, nicely done!

That was a good read @graymamba. Having played the Raid mode in RE Revelations I'm so glad I made do with just knocking out the trophies I could do solo with a bit of grind and leave it at that. I know what you mean about stingy rewards and slow progression and especially about the ammo situation. I was constantly replaying early stages just to get back ammo lost when trying to progress further.
Anyway, congrats on achieving the Platinum. I'm not sure if I should commend or pity your dedication😄.

@BearsEatBeets ahh that would definitely be pity mate… pity for sure! 😅

Nice to have some input from a fellow Raider who’s treaded the same path to some degree… and also to know that it wasn’t just us that struggled tbh. Glad you enjoyed the read mate. It’s not often I post more than a couple of sentences, so it’s nice to know someone enjoyed it. 👍

More than "someone" singular, as I also enjoyed reading your epic the other day! Quite the journey, and a real positive insight into what trophies have added to gaming. Nicely done, and thanks for sharing!

@Werehog it was quite the odyssey, so I’m glad that I was able to convey that in some small way/overly-long self-indulgent post 😅. Glad you enjoyed it.

Th3solution

@graymamba Another one here who really enjoyed reading your chronicles of RE Revelations trophy hunting. So happy you got past it! White Moose is a real hero 🎖️

psmr

@Th3solution indeed he is mate… for putting up with me for all that time more than anything. 😅 Also, he’d just become a new father only a couple of months before we started, so he was juggling a lot for sure… far more than I.

Tjuz

@graymamba Not to sound like a broken record, but that was a highly entertaining read. I'm glad you persevered throughout all the suffering that you could bring us some good comedy... and with a happy ending at that! Thanks for sharing and apologies for the pain. 🙏

Tjuz

@Tjuz didn’t feel like comedy at the time, I can tell you that! 😅 Though we did both state a fair few times after one calamity or another that “We’ll be able to look back on this and laugh one day y’know.” Was quite cathartic to get it all out tbh, so glad that a fair few people have been able to take something from it.

#85 Ball x Pit

Untitled

A really fun game that very much falls into the "one more go" category of games.

The basic premise is controlling a character to fire balls at the enemies scrolling down the screen to take them out. Most enemies only deal damage if they make it to bottom of the screen but some fire projectiles too. The normal way of taking damage is being overwhelmed by enemies making it to the bottom of the screen. Each of the eight levels also has two mini bosses and a main boss.

The fun and variety in gameplay comes from the fact each character has a unique ability (like firing two streams of balls but each deals half damage or one that fires balls from the back of the screen instead) and that during a run you can acquire different ball types from obvious things like flame that deals fire damage to ones that work like cluster bombs. But then these can also be fused or even evolved into more potent attacks. Part way through the game you can also unlock the ability to use two characters together on a run and combine their special abilities.

Alongside that there is a rudimentary base building mechanic that lets you farm resources to build and upgrade buildings for new characters, increased stats, and other special abilities.

The platinum is very achievable as it's mostly about completing the game with each character and unlocking specific evolutions which are easy to mop up.

Platinum # 72 | Paw Patrol World

Pros: no bugs, no crashes, pleasing textures, very straight forward gameplay, zooming around in those vehicles was fun. Children would like it, probably.

Cons: One of the requirements is to help people around each zone and while each one is located on the world map, the game doesn't mark which ones you did, it doesn't keep track of them at all. The workaround was to copy each map then mark each off on a tablet or laptop. Freaky face textures are a con too, the puppies looked fine from behind but got very Uncanny Valley during those cutscenes. Big unblinking eyes, disturbing. Having to press X after each piece of dialogue too, and there are a million cutscenes and well done screens where you have to do that. Another con is that the trophy guide says four hours, it actually takes thirty one hours.

Story: That's a bit of a mystery. There was a Mayor in a blimp like Max Zorin in A View to a Kill, but he had none of the charisma of Christopher Walken. I think he was deafening people with speakers on his blimp and after each map completion you remove wires from each speaker. I'm not sure really, I muted the sound after the first map then replaced it with Black Metal. I've no idea if it's lore accurate either, I've never seen the show and after experiencing that Ryder kid, I don't want to.

Platinum #70 is Big Hops - a cool indie platformer that released last week

I'll be honest, I probably wouldn't go for platinum if a couple of the trophies (including one for finishing the game under 4 hours) weren't bugged and hadn't popped up for me upon reloading a post-game save despite not having met the requirements

That being said, very cool game. Some parts a tiny bit janky but overall the freedom of movement feels good, the characters are nice and it's challenging to a good degree if you want to get everything.
I can easily recommend playing this one.
