@JohnnyShoulder I am not surprised it looks a bit 'indie' budget as Obsidian weren't exactly thriving financially before they joined up with MS and I bet it was the financial security and promise of almost unlimited budgets that was a major reason why they are now part of Xbox Studio's

This game was a development before that and its due to be published by Take-Two (If I remember correctly), not Microsoft. When you consider that they were very close to closure, relying on crowdfunding for Pillars of Eternity which saved them, this game, whilst ambitious for a studio that wasn't financially secure, its not pushing the technical boundaries visually. Whether MS stepped in and/or funding the latter stages of its development as Obsidian are now part of MS, I would expect that MS will help them get it finished as quickly as possible to then begin focussing on MS games. That's not to say it will be downgraded and/or buggy, but that they probably wouldn't want to fund a complete over-haul of the visuals to make it look like a AAA next gen, pushing the release window back and delaying them from creating exclusive content.

Admittedly, I thought the first reveal looked better and the footage from E3 had an 'indie' look to it - I thought it was a reveal for a new indie game at first and it didn't register that this was the same game. Still a while to go and it may improve or maybe come out as a mid-price game.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

@BAMozzy It's currently 50 quid on Amazon so looks like it is gonna be a full priced title.

@JohnnyShoulder For all we know, that could be a 'holding' price as they tend to put most newly announced games up for pre-order before there are any details about the price and editions (special, collectors etc) so I never look at those prices as final.

I am not saying it won't be a full price AAA release or that it will be priced as an 'indie' game either, just saying that closer to release, they may decide to price it as a mid-price game - along the lines of games like Uncharted: Lost Legacy for example. They have said that the game isn't 'long' but with the potential for multiple play-throughs. It doesn't sound as 'big' as we tend to expect from a full priced AAA game - those with short campaigns tend to have online modes to make up more content.

Again, I have no knowledge of the pricing they will be looking to sell this game for and they may well try and price it as a full price AAA release. However, until we know for sure, we can speculate. If they do decide to release it as a full price though, from the information we have had, as well as the less than stellar visual look (not that visuals are always an indicator - but Mass Effect Andromeda had better environmental visuals even if the facial expressions were a bit off), I think it would be a 'hard' sell. Drop the price, either before launch to a mid-price level or post-launch drops, I can see this selling more.

In my opinion though, I think it will do better if it launches at a 'mid-price' because I think the critics will be quite harsh if its launching at a full price which I think would hurt the game even if they drop the price post launch. Something that may score say an 7-8 at mid price, would score a ~6 at full price and that score will stick regardless of the post launch price drops.

No doubt we will see what happens but right now, I can see the game either launching at mid-price or myself only considering it once the price drops post launch. I don't see enough there to warrant a full price release...

@BAMozzy I suppose it could happen but I've never known for the price to change drastically when a game is 3 months away from being released.

It does seem far too close to release to see any real big price change. I can get over the graphics if the gameplay and story are top notch. Here's hoping!

@Beard-Crumbs I can't fault your enthusiasm! Hopefully it lives up to your expectations. I may swing back round again, Obsidian may able to polish things up by day 1. You are right, sometimes a game can such great gameplay thst you can overlook the jank.

Started playing this game last night and from what I did play it is Fallout in SPAAAACE lol. I didn't get to far (got to the first settlement) but controls felt good and the graphics are gorgeous. The humor is there as well. Going to be putting in some hours on this one. Right now I built a stealthy medical character who's good with rifles.

@Genrou That’s quite niche

I’m glad to hear the game has got good feedback so far and sounds free from any serious bugs. It’s another one on my to-play list for sure but not a day one (or near enough) purchase.

@Genrou loving this game so far, only a few hours in but it's clear already that character build and your own actions are going to be far more important than on any recent RPG. I've just modded my stolen assault rifle to fire electric bullets and it's so good 😁

Best game I've played in quite some time

Older than I care to remember but have been gaming since owning a wooden Atari 2600 and played pretty much everything inbetween.

@carlos82 Yeah, it's great having choice again that was my problem with Fallout 4 and why New Vegas is still my favorite Fallout. I only got about an hour into the game but already I can tell this is going to be on my GOTY list for this year.

The review, combined with the comments in this thread, are really making me want to get this. It sounds like everything my life has been missing since I completed New Vegas.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

@Gremio108 if you really like New Vegas, this is the closest game I've played to that. Just with better gunplay and more useful companions

@KratosMD If you have game pass on the Xbox One it's on there.

@carlos82 I loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas, played them to death. I enjoyed Fallout 4 but it was lacking something, and I only played through it once as a result (although I still put over a hundred hours into it)

I'm really liking the sound of the player choice and dialogue options. One of my favourite things about Fallout 3/NV was the ability to reply with a jokey comment, even when someone has just asked you to retrieve their dead partner's wedding ring or something.

Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.

@KratosMD That's understandable and I see where you are coming from. For me there weren't really any games that were must plays. Of course there was Dragon Quest XI but other then Modern Warfare The Outer Worlds was the game I was looking forward to the most this year. Death Stranding has no interest to me as I am not a fan of Kojima's games and personal think he's overrated, so I don't have to worry about that. But yeah I highly recommend at some point playing The Outer Worlds.

As for not having the bugs.Bethesda games have well, that because it's not done by Bethesda.

@Gremio108 this sounds like it'll be right up your street then, plenty of optional dialogue and you can be as nasty or nice as you want to be. I've even just finished a side quest, and out of curiosity spoke to the affected people afterwards to find they all had extra dialogue referring to the events that unfolded

@carlos82 It's definitely climbed up my list of gaming priorities, that's for sure

Played a few hours on Game Pass for PC and then caved and bought it on PS4 haha. I don't know what it is but I for the life of me can not get into PC gaming. I have tried countless times. The whole time I was playing it I was thinking man I wish I was playing this on PS4...

As for the game, I'm enjoying it so far dumping all my skills into dialogue. I love talking my way out of things or getting more info in games likes this.

@Splat It usually helps if you have a gaming PC to play games on. Otherwise console will be better.

As for the game. Played a few more hours on it last night. Still in Edgewater but I did a few quests there. Got my first pristine weapon, a stun baton and a fire pistol which is alot of fun.

I am enjoying the game so much that I want to find out more about the world such the back lore. It's a shame the don't have novels for The Outer Worlds.

Ashly Burch voicing a companion was a pleasant surprise. Also, companions are pretty dang helpfull in combat.
