Just seen that Unknown 9: Awakening is heavily reduced on Amazon today - £23.80 from £49.99. It’s pretty new having released under a month ago and reviewed fairly well on here (think it had a 7) but has been obliterated by users due to DEI stuff from what I gather. Still… a decent reduction for a brand new release.
@Bob_Salat thanks for that! You know what, the series passed me by, although I was always keen to try it, but I was too stuck on Counter-Strike. I’m not sure I’ll get much mileage out of it these days, but I have £10 steam credit in my wallet and planned on getting Braid so there will be some left and for £1.70 it’s hard to ignore.
January Sale (Digital) launches today on PS Plus (20th on regular PS Store, I think) so just a heads up if anyone is thinking of buying anything soon to hold up and check this out.
Dragon Age TV is about £40, for example. Banishers £25. So not at all bad, tbf. A better sale than we sometimes see.
I'm tempted to get Dragon Age as I have some left over credit anyway, but I'm going to have another think on it first

good sales going on for the Playstation 4 PSN store.
Disaster Report 4 on sale, Disgaea 1 Complete on sale. Plus some DLC stuff on sale too for Resident Evil 2 Remake.
and the usual Final Fantasy IX digital remastered edition on sale along with Metal Gear Solid 1 HD Remastered and Metal Gear Solid 2.
Im tempted to get Metal Gear Solid 1 HD since it has both u.s. and different versions of Metal Gear along with Metal Gear Solid 1 and some Metal Gear Soild story text recap thing
Is it me or are the Black Friday discounts a bit underwhelming? There’s a few decent deals, but I’m not seeing really those ‘once per year’ deep cuts like we used to see. Most of the games that are less than 3 years old are getting 20-30% off, which is not much different than their normal sales. In prior years, I remember Black Friday having 50-70% reductions on a lot of recent releases. Either the brutal economy is to blame, or my memory is failing me.
Alas, on the plus side it saves the strain on my wallet and my backlog.

@Th3solution I've always found that success in Black Friday (and the January sales) depends entirely on what you're in the market for, but I agree that this year's discounts seem a little timid. I usually hang back and use it to mop up my "mild interest" tier of older games, which invariably go for ten bucks or less, and if I happen to get lucky while working my way down the list? Bonus.
It's the same across other markets, though. I had my eye on a couple of electronics and clothing items and honestly, the discounts haven't been as steep as I'd hoped there, either. Methinks you might be right, and the current economic climate is to blame
Or maybe it's the side effect of turning a single day into an entire week-long extravaganza.
Roll on Cyber Monday!

@Th3solution only deep sale I've seen is the usual PS Direct collector's editions that drop a few times per year. Digital sales might step up today onwards, or even have a staggered sale where better deals are added next week 🤷♂️
@Werehog yeah, I don't think the fact that everyone has had 'black friday sales' for the past 2 weeks helps, its just a staggered price rotation event at this point, i've noticed some items on amazon that were cheaper a few weeks ago, they went up, and now they are on black friday discount at a higher price than they were before. Ridiculous practices all based on algorithms, no doubt. But as more people are lured by the 'event' they aren't aware they are actually being exploited. People are just a number, and if more people buy during the sales, they can get away with small incremental increases on old items to cover any actual sale items due to the sheer mass of spending.
@Werehog Yeah, that’s all very true. Historically “Black Friday” was actually a Friday and not an entire week (or more than a week, for some retailers). With the advent of the internet, the weekend extended to include Monday which was indeed coined the “Cyber Monday” and now I think we just need to call it “Discount Fortnight”, or something like that, to just cover the whole last half of November.

I know this has been covered before, but for any passers-by from Europe and the UK, the origin of Black Friday is actually the day after Thanksgiving (which is always the fourth Thursday in November) the largest shopping day of the year for us because most Americans get holiday time off for both Thanksgiving and the Friday that follows so people are all hanging around off of work with nothing to do and like to go Christmas shopping and go to the movies. So it’s a madhouse at the malls and theaters here in the day after Thanksgiving. Retailers of course take advantage by putting on big discounts to draw the largest crowds and in fact have often caused riots as people scamper to buy on the biggest deals of the season.
Nevertheless, the “Black” description of the day does not have to do with any connotation of it being a dark, dreary, and negative day, despite the craziness and stress of being out in the chaos of the shopping day. Rather, it refers to the state of the ledger for the business — with that day being the first day most businesses are “in the black” for the year (as opposed to being “in the red”) and actually turning a profit for the year because of the sheer volume of commerce going on. So it’s “we’re finally in the black” Friday.
Incidentally, Black Friday is actually a week from today, not today. Thanksgiving is next Thursday the 27th. I know in other parts of the world this Friday is no different than next, so it makes no difference which Friday the retailers label as Black Friday, but technically it all goes crazy for us in one week.
@Elfuggingjefe Thanks, I sometimes worry that I end up posting a long comment that is like that annoying NPC filler text in an RPG that players just quickly hit the X button to skip through. 😂
And I was getting a little pedantic but when I saw one of the front page articles that Stephen or Sammy said something like “Today is Black Friday…” and I figured I’d clarify. I mean, I guess it’s really more of an interesting aside about the origin of Black Friday… but, if we’re being totally accurate, Black Friday is still a week away.
And truly, the day has lost its real meaning and the “door buster deals” that shops like Wal-Mart and Best Buy used to have are much more tame nowadays. I haven’t got out of bed early to camp out in front of a store in years. 😅
As far as anything that’s caught my eye, I also considered Astro Bot at 34% discount. Another would be KCD II at 40% off, and 50% for Space Marine 2 and Life is Strange: Double Exposure are tempting. But I think those prices will recur again before I’m ready to play any of those.
I’m actually considering double dipping on Witcher 3 Complete Edition for $10. I have the game on disc but would really like to have access to the digital game to cloud stream on my Portal. $10 is “eh, why the heck not?” type of money.
