Yup. I didn't think twice. I honestly just went into Walmart thinking I just needed a 12month Playstation Subscription and bought it. Redeemed it and what do I find out? That I accidentally bought a 12month subscription for games I do not want/already have. I talked with the support and attached is my Support Transcript. You guys might find this entertaining. But for me, I am supposedly going to have to spend another $60 just for PS Plus.

Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:40:05 PM): Thank you for contacting PlayStation, my name is Aida B. how may I assist you today?

Me (2/13/2021, 9:40:39 PM): I accidentally bought a 12month subscription of PS Now instead of PS Plus
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:41:25 PM): Hello Mariana, it’s nice to meet you. I would like to thank you for taking the time to let us know about this accidental purchase of PlayStation Now, and I'm glad to look into this for you. Please note that we'll be working with the name and PlayStation ID you entered in the pre-chat form.
Me (2/13/2021, 9:41:52 PM): Okay
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:42:26 PM): Thank you, may I please know if your purchase was made directly through the PlayStation store, or with a physical voucher that was redeemed?
Me (2/13/2021, 9:43:33 PM): Physical voucher. I bought it from Walmart not thinking that there was two different things and after I redeemed it already I found out that it wasn't what I thought it was
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:44:31 PM): I see, thanks for letting me know. In this case, I'm sorry, but additional troubleshooting is not available, since the purchase was not made directly through he PlayStation store. A certain subscription type cannot be changed for the other from our end.
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:45:09 PM): However, if you think there might have been some confusion at the time of the purchase, please get in contact with the Walmart store where the voucher was purchase, Mariana.
Me (2/13/2021, 9:46:20 PM): I haven't used the PlayStation Now at all yet. And I activated it less than 5mins ago
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:47:37 PM): I understand, Mariana. However, since the subscription voucher was purchased at a third party retailer, please verify if there is anything they could do on their end. I would like to assist you further, but since the purchase was not made directly from the PlayStation store, we are unable to provide a refund, or exchange your current subscription.
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:48:17 PM): Aside from this, is there anything else I can assist you with, or any other questions you may have at this time, Mariana?
Me (2/13/2021, 9:49:33 PM): I am almost sure that Walmart will not do anything because it was already activated. You have the ability to do something with the subscription no?
Me (2/13/2021, 9:50:06 PM): Since it is on a Sony Playstation and you are support?
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:50:45 PM): As shared before, since the purchase was not made directly through PlayStation but instead it was purchased on a voucher from a third party retailer, we cannot modify it on our end, Mariana. Sorry about that.
Me (2/13/2021, 9:52:22 PM): It was $60, and I am not going to use it all though... I honestly had no clue that you had two different subscriptions
Me (2/13/2021, 9:53:31 PM): Ultimately you are forcing me to pay another $60 for multiplayer service now. That's $120. I was only planning on paying $60.
Me (2/13/2021, 9:54:21 PM): I'm sorry. I just am really frustrated and I don't understand why you can't change the subscription on your own Sony Playstation
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:54:59 PM): My apologies, while I understand that this is not the subscription you were intending to purchase, due to the fact that payment for it was not processed through our online storefront, we cannot modify the contents of the voucher you added to it.
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:56:04 PM): Normally, when the incorrect purchase is made through our PlayStation store, we would be able to look into this further and see what other steps we can offer to fix this.
Me (2/13/2021, 9:56:08 PM): Can you somehow cancel the subscription and send me a refund receipt to give to Walmart or something?
Me (2/13/2021, 9:56:55 PM): Walmart can't cancel a PlayStation Now subscription? Right? They don't have access to that
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:56:59 PM): Not at all, I'm sorry, Mariana. Payment was not taken directly by PlayStation, so we are unable to refund this purchase or cancel the subcription, as it has been redeemed on the account.
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:57:25 PM): Please keep in mind that the contents or services added with a physical voucher redemption cannot be modified on the account.
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 9:57:58 PM): Besides this, are there any other questions or requests you may have?
Me (2/13/2021, 9:59:18 PM): No, thank you
Aida B. (2/13/2021, 10:00:03 PM): My sincere apologies for this situation, Mariana. Thanks a lot for contacting PlayStation, I hope you have a good rest of your day.

Totally agree, when I first looked at them last year, I ended up doing a fair bit of research to understand the difference between them, before going with Ps Plus

@kyleforrester87 To be fair, one is blue, and the other one is yellow, littered with the PS+ symbols. The PS Now voucher also clearly states it is for streaming games on demand. I get that it may be a bit confusing, but you should really do you research if you're going to drop 60 on something. One Google search will confirm PS Now and PS Plus are not the same.

@Octane I’m not saying otherwise but if you’re a gran buying it for someone it’s easy to get mixed up. Then of course, you should notice it before activating.

Two separate subs is dumb anyway, it should just be one for the lot. Or maybe silver and gold membership would make more sense at least.

@kyleforrester87 Well, yes, obviously. They should do it like a phone plan. Combine whichever service you like, and maybe get a small discount if you have both. And ideally things like cloud saves and online play are separate options.

I can see how someone who wanted to purchase a 12 month subscription for Playstation online could easily be confused here. No doubt a lot of people who are completely unaware there are two entirely different services being offered here.

@Octane Either that or do like MS and have a PS Ultimate plan.

@kyleforrester87 I could maybe see if it was a nongamer but as Octane said they are clearly marked. The user from the post, the fact that when they notice the mistake they knew to contact Sony strikes me though as a gamer. It just sounds like they weren't paying attention.

More then likely they had the cards right next to each other and the person just grabbed it without really looking, heck it happens to me. I go into a convince store to buy a Pepsi see the rows of Pepsi and grab the Diet Pepsi right next to the Pepsi cause I am not really paying attention. I get halfway down the road pop it open take a sip to discover my mistake. I am calling Pepsi and asking them to switch it?? No will the store let me return a half drunk bottle of soda no. I just have to suck it up and buy another Pepsi, but I learned a lesson.

@Tasuki yeah I’m not saying anyone is to blame but the OP, but nonetheless it’s an understandable (if probably not that common) mistake to make.

Still, is it really so hard for Sony to be able to close one subscription and transfer credit to another? I imagine they don’t have a system in place for customer services to do so, but it can’t be that hard for them to build one and it’s not an unreasonable request.

When I pre-ordered my PS5 I sent it to the wrong address, I called the next day to change the address but they couldn’t without closing my preorder and reordering (not possible as they were now out of stock) so I had to go wait outside the delivery address for 4 hours to catch the guy. Totally my fault but come on... they aren’t able to change the delivery address on an order 2-3 months in advance of the shipping date?

It’s a load of “computer says no” bullsh*t really. I’m all about you laying in the bed you make for yourself and it’s not about entitlement, but while they are raising subscription prices, asking £70 for exclusives and generally just trying to stay competitive in the industry (did For The Players die with last-gen?) you’d think they could go a step further for the customer too.

@kyleforrester87 I think the problem was that it was handled through a third party in this case Walmart. I am sure that a portion of the money sold goes to Walmart for carrying them item as well as Sony. Because of that they couldn't do it. Maybe if the person purchased it through the PS digital store they could of.

Its frustrating but it was the buyer's fault, in fact it could have been avoided by making the purchase online. In my country we have neither playstation support nor ps now service
