I would rather watch an episode of VR Troopers.

And if it Sony supports it like other gimmicky hardware i.e. the Move and PSTV it will be clearenced out in two years for $20.

I could buy one at that price easily - but its nowhere near my Christmas list yet. I want to see some bespoke and engaging games, not 3 minute gimmicks and on rails experience simulators. I will be watching this space and would like to see what happens after playing for an hour or two and how immersive breaking things we take for granted are once in a virtual environment.

I am not normally a day one purchaser of technology. I waited 18 months before getting a PS4. But with this am happy to support it from day one. It will not be perfect but the immersion factor is what really draws me in. The other big selling point is the cinematic screen. That is a great feature which Sony did in a prevous headsest for about £800 and it only did the cinematic viewing. Even if I am not using the VR part I would use cinematic mode. Price was as epected and do nt think that will be a sticking point for people adopting the technology. Its no more expesnive than when the PS4 first came out.

I find the price more than right, still, I hold no interest into isolating myself even more from the real world than I already do with my normal gaming habits.

I tend to be an early adopter, and I'd love a PSVR, but I just don't think I'll be able to get one on release. Might have to be something I admire from afar for a while.

I've tried VR (though not PSVR) and it's super cool. I think it could actually become a new frontier for games, so long as the support from developers (and consumers) remains strong. It will be fascinating seeing how PSVR fares over the next couple of years.

@MadAussieBloke: lol. Lovely GIF!
Still I'm actually on the "downgrading" and "simplifying" path at the moment. The least I need are even more distractions.

It's more than I expected, but still a lot less than the $800 for the HTC Vive. Still, for that price I can get myself at least 8-10 brand new games, so I'm not sure if I'll get one this generation. I'm interested, but I'd like to try it out first too.

I'm excited about this. Fair point about further isolation. I think that will be a real worry going forward as market penetration increases. However, the price for me is more than fair. Commenters on other sites are criticising the price as it also needs a camera and potentially two move controllers. If it was any cheaper, people would call it out as the poor mans alternative made on the cheap. It's a lose-lose for Sony until people can actually try it out.

@Octane: Vive maybe twice as expensive but comes with everything in the box and is by far the most technologically advanced of the 3. It does require more 'space' for some games and I think it will end up being more versatile and offer more experiences than PSVR and Oculus Rift can manage. It has a front facing camera (for example) so you can have some awareness of your surroundings.
Oculus is 50% more expensive but also comes with everything you need straight out of the box. Admittedly it doesn't come with 'wireless' hand controllers (like Move) because they will not be available at launch. It has a better resolution - the same as Vive.
PSVR is, I think fairly priced by comparison. By the time you add in the camera, a pair of Move controllers and maybe a surround sound/stereo headset (for full immersion) for an entry level and predominantly gaming experience, its fairly priced compared to its main competitors. I expect both OR and HTC will offer more 'widespread' experiences with the Vive offering more again - If you have the space.
PSVR though requires a PS4, whilst the other 2 require a more high end PC. At the moment of course, those PC's seem high end, but could be the 'norm' in a few years or even seen as 'basic' by comparison. Oculus Rift can play XB1 games streamed to it via Win10 and a lot of XB games will be on PC too - much like PSVR will act as a screen for non-VR PS4 games. Whether this means that people will invest in PC upgrades and Oculus - if they don't have a PS4 - for their VR experience, rather than buy the PS4, PSVR, Camera, Move controllers and then games or invest in an upgrade or two for their PC (more people own a PC), OR seems to have a good 'market' and may appeal to the Xbox community.
At the end of the day though, ALL 3 (and AMD with its AMD Sulon HMD headset soon to be releasing) require each to be successful. The more successful all are, the more likely you will see VR software development and more widespread experiences. The Headsets themselves may be 'expensive' considering the parts used - they could be sold at a loss currently, Its still unlikely to cover the massive cost in the research and development - at least not for a few years UNLESS they really do take off...

So what games are we looking forward to playing again on PS VR in cinematic mode? One game I'm gonna go back and play is Infamous Second Son. I think it'll look great on that headset? Shame I don't have P.T. anymore.

I really think PSVR should get its own section.

Well I ordered mine, caved in. With cashback and whatnot from game I'm only paying £325 and I should hopefully get it launch week.

@get2sammyb: It all depends if it needs it's own section.

Is it it's own system like a PS3, or PS4 or is it just an accessory like the Move, or an Arcade Stick.

At least that's my opinion.

@BAMozzy: Oh yeah I know, but I don't have THAT much money to spend on gaming every year, so if I were to get a VR headset, it would most likely be the cheapest one. I know the Vive is able to offer a better experience, but I can't afford something like that.

@Octane: I understand that Sony will be offering a bundle with camera and a move controller (maybe 2 - details were sketchy when I read that and no price either). Its still likely to cost a lot - maybe not quite as much as Oculus Rift will. From my perspective, I would need the camera and maybe 2 'Move' controllers. Being disabled though, Vive doesn't appeal, I don't have the movement to take advantage of it. I don't know if PSVR is a totally seated device and I can't see me playing any games that require a lot of movement. Being seated obviously has its restrictions too but having cables across the floor isn't great. I think all 3 have cables though - not sure about AMD's yet but that is looking even more advanced but I bet that costs double the cost of Vive.
I know its the 'cheapest' but its still likely to cost me the price of 8 AAA games at least - closer to 10. That's a lot and probably 6 months worth of games. October is also the 'busy' season as far as games go and I would rather spend money on getting these - especially Horizon: Zero Dawn CoD and Battlefield will no doubt have games out as well as GoW4. I don't know either if it will be a purely gaming peripheral or will have more application like Oculus could - whether it will have educational (like visiting virtual museums, galleries etc), social etc function too. I can't say that any game itself jumps out as a must have and something that can only work in VR for me. I know some of the games probably feel more intense because of VR but I could also see all those PSVR games (so far) working as standard.
I watched one demo of a Vive game though that I can't see being possible on a standard format although I could see it working with AR - as long as you can move around of course.
VR, I think, will have its limitations - particularly this first wave but a second or even third wave is quite dependent on the success of the first. I will watch to see how it develops, how successful it becomes, what apps/games etc get developed, whether or not there are any negative effects of using it (health, psychological etc) and maybe reconsider in a year or two which if any suits me best. I certainly won't jump in at the 'entry' level if it can't deliver 'everything' I want from VR. If that means I have to upgrade or buy a new PC, then so be it. By the time I am considering a purchase, that PC won't be very expensive. On Oculus's website, you can buy a OR ready PC for less than $1k when you pre-order so a year or two's time, these will be a lot less. If PSVR will deliver what I want then great - I already have a PS4!

Is it correct to assume that the playstation Move controllers from the PS3 will work on the PS4/PS VR?
