Me plus two other friends only managed to break one of Diablos's horns. As for Rathalos, we couldn't even engage in a fight with it since it was constantly flying around the map.

They always release a bunch of DLC quests, some of them with new monsters or arenas to fight in.

But this time it might need it. I hear the monster list is really small for this game. Whether that's true or just rumors is yet to be seen.

Ya we broke Diablos horn too actually the first hunt with 4 people (2 were noobs though). But didn't even get him limping before time ran out. May take another crack at it after work today. If we got a full team of experienced hunters we could probably do it. Me and my friend make two, if two more hop in from here as well...

I know multi-player is the way to go for this game, but is it viable long term as a mostly solo player?

Elodin

JaxonH

Ya. The games, in times past, would have a single player portion that could only be played solo, and a MP portion that could be played solo or up to 4 players.

In this game it's no longer separated. Just one pool of quests that's playable solo or with others. You can for sure play solo. I don't think it's as fun, and farming monsters for parts can take a long time by yourself, but it's totally doable.

Is there a way to invite people into your squad without having to use private session codes?

JaxonH

No.

Hopefully that changes in the full release though. Even in previous games you could join via an in-game friend list, so I expect no less this time around.

Yeah, that is some Wii stuff right there. One of my only complaints in the beta.

Yeah, the ID code just doesn't seem practical at the moment. Also how do you go about getting random(s) to join your team of 2 or 3? Seems like the only way to play with randoms is to search solo.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a budget headset, preferably around 60 dollars or less? (More is acceptable, though, but it can't really be over 100 dollars. I wouldn't feel good about spending that much on something that's not really necessary)

This seems like a game that would benefit a LOT from voice chat.

@JaxonH So no more guild quests that are a pain to solo because they're balanced for multiple hunters?

@Ralizah
Right.

At the same time, it could mean less quests. Instead of making twice as many quests like they usually do, so that there is single player content and multiplayer content, they might just roll with the single player stuff and let all of them be played with up to 4 players (which is what they're doing, the question is whether they are taking those separate MP quests from previous entries and combining them in with the rest, or if they're just dropping them entirely resulting in half as much content...)

@JaxonH thanks for the info. As a mostly solo player and one who may have to leave during missions I wouldn't want to put the group out by logging out. This game looks great, but will probably be a sale pickup for me.

No problem.

It's not for everyone. It's an incredible game if you like digging deep into complex crafting, and if you like learning attack patterns inside out, and if you like fighting the same bosses over and over and over (because that's what most of the game is- fighting the same monsters repeatedly). And I know that may not sound too fun but it really is if you're the type of person who really enjoys the combat. If you really enjoy the combat then it's a fun experience every time you go out on a hunt. I don't mind finding the same monsters over and over because the fights never play out the same way twice. I mean yeah, they can get a little grindy sometimes, especially when you've learned them like the back of your hand and know exactly what they're going to do, and you're just hunting them because you need materials. But this game does seem to lessen the grind a bit. The monsters have better AI so the fights should offer more variation, and the grind of gathering seems to have been streamlined so it doesn't take as long gathering herbs and mushrooms and things of that nature. But it is a game where you're going to spend half your time exploring and gathering and mining ore and catching bugs... and spend the other half of your time using those supplies to craft items that can help you on your hunt like flash bombs or shock traps, etc.

It's a very particular type of gameplay experience, but I love it. I know some people who've played the game and... it's just not their cup of tea. But that's going to be any game. But for the people that this game does click with, I think those people will really love it, as I do.

Oh that's cool. Figured they'd release a demo closer to release.

So, close yet so far away.

I just realized it comes out on a Friday instead of Tuesday like most games. A bit disappointing since I'm off work on Thursdays and planned on playing it all day.

Do what I'm doing- schedule vacation for that Friday and Monday and make it a 4 day weekend.

In the meantime, enjoying some Xenoblade Chronicles 2- one of only two other game series I love every bit as much as Monster Hunter. 100 hours in and halfway through. Should beat the game at around 200 hour mark, right when MH releases.
