@Voltan yeah, I’ve always had September in my mind for the release tbh. I’ve been putting off booking the rest of my annual leave but work have finally put their foot down and told me that I have to book a two week block by the end of this week… gonna try and get the middle fortnight of September I think. 😉
@colonelkilgore Well, at least we know they didn’t turn the game into a children’s “E” rated game. Still plenty of realistic violence and profanity. I was worried they would turn Kratos into a skilled negotiator who was able to solve all interpersonal conflict non-violently.
@Th3solution damn… the ‘skilled negotiator who was able to solve interpersonal conflict non-violently’ tactic was the only answer Sony had to all the critics saying “it just looks like dlc!” 🤣
There's GoW Ragnarok merch releasing in July, between this and the 2018 game being PS+ Essential for June there's no doubt about it that the promo cycle is beginning soon.
I see the rumours have been back and forth on the release for Ragnarok. First it was in September, then it was delayed till next year, now the latest is November. Would be funny if was released on the old date for Starfield.

Given those rumours about a Nintendo Direct on June 29th and Nintendo always likes to go last for big June announcements, I imagine that later this week Sony will announce a GoW Ragnarok State of Play for June 23rd.
I mean, maybe I’m getting baited by Cory (who’s a known troll, tbh) but he basically confirms that the game is definitely coming out this year, doesn’t he?
There is so much drama surrounding GoW Ragnarok. Good grief.
I have no doubt the final product will be fabulous, but it seems like every thing that can go wrong has. From the lead voice actor having to take time off for major surgery and convalescence, to the animation actor being implicated in heinous allegations, and then now supposedly social and political unrest from the recent Supreme Court controversy apparently delaying things. And then we have to have idiot fans harassing the studio for information.
This game is snakebit.

@Th3solution As long as the game is up to a similar standard of the previous title, all that stuff is kinda background noise to me and makes no difference on whether or not I'll be buying the game or not. 🤷♂️

@colonelkilgore I was surprised at how many comments in the recent article stated that they preferred the older GoW games to the 2018 reboot. For me it was no contest. The older games were fine, but the reboot is fantastic. Perhaps some of that is just narrative tone, which weighs heavily for me. I much prefer old reflective Kratos to young angry Kratos. 😄
So I'm actually someone who prefers the older games to the reboot. It's not like I hate the reboot or think it's bad in any way, something about it just never clicked with me. I bought it the day it released, I played the heck out of it for about two or three weeks, platinumed it and never touched it again. I hadn't really watched or read m thing about it leading up to its release because it's God of War, it's one of it not my favorite franchise to play, so I was obviously going to get it.
I appreciate the new game and what it did with the franchise, but I just never found myself having anywhere near as much fun as I had with the older games. The gameplay is the big issue for me, and I feel weird even calling it an issue because it's not like it's bad, I just don't find it satisfying like in the OG games. Killing hordes of enemies, combos, interactive quick time events, are some of things I loved most about the OGs and none of those things are present in the reboot. The brutal kills of minion enemies just don't compare, and the boss battles just aren't even in the same league.
It feels like the older games came about because someone had a game they wanted to make and the reboot came about because someone had a story they wanted to tell.
Presentation wise it looks amazing, though I'm not overly pleased with the fact that it looks like it takes place in the Naughty Dog Cinematic Universe, but it's going for the more realistic approach than the older games so I get it(I had the same issue with the presentation of Days Gone but I understood it).
Maybe if I hadn't played the originals I would've enjoyed this more or maybe I just need to play it again, I originally thought it was like an 8/10 , I think that moved down to a 7/10 in my books eventually, but maybe I just need to play it again.
As I post this I just want to make sure I'm getting across that I don't think anyone is right or wrong for liking the new one more than the older ones or vice versa, I can't understand the appreciation for both. There's no right or wrong in liking one over the other, liking both, or liking neither.
@RonCorleone totally fair mate… and you’re not totally alone either as I have spoken to people who feel similarly. As someone whose first foray into the franchise was 2018… going back and playing the older games after that was more a labour of love for how much I enjoyed the reboot than how much enjoyment I was deriving from the legacy… but that’s not to say that there was no enjoyment at all.
I’ve quite enjoyed my time playing through GoW, GoW2, GoW: CoO, GoW: GoS, GoW: Ascension (I still have GoW3 left to fit in prior to GoW: Ragnarok) but while the overall setting is EPIC in scale… I personally find the gameplay a little button-bashy (just my personal opinion). I played GoW 2018 on ‘Give me a Challenge’ and it did just that. Until I had levelled up my gear etc. quite a bit, I was struggling and really had to think risk vs reward with every combat decision… I’ve never really felt like that in the older games.
@RonCorleone@colonelkilgore Both well said. For me, it’s more about the story and characters, but the gameplay is the icing on the cake. I played GoW 1-3 and at least one of the PSP games. I don’t think I ever got around to Ascension. There was definitely fun to be had, but the Kratos character never resonated with me until the reboot.

i prefer original kratos , his old design , and his original voice actor by a landslide .
it’s sad most people didn’t like GoW until the reimagining happened , and the ones who did are negligible. The only reason this doesn’t affect me more , is because i’ve had more than enough of the classic GoW games (PS2/PS3/PSP) and wrapped it up with 3 ; didn’t bother with ascension because i was burned out & most likely never will play it .
this new thing they got going has only 1 game so far in comparison
