Recently? Star Fox Zero. That was just utter garbage in my opinion.

WWE 2K17 Those games always sucker me in, I get them thinking ok this will be the year that they do a good one. This one is especially bad with all the glitches and unfinished things in it.

@KratosMD: It also made me realise that I don't want another game featuring voice chat from Nintendo, not until they find a proper voice acting studio, don't want those cheap voice overs from their localisation team.

But indeed, everything from the controls, level design, graphics and even gameplay itself was just terrible.

Jeez, is it that bad? I am a big fan of SF64 and platinum games so I thought I'd pick it up if I found it cheap...maybe there will be a Switch port with updated controls?

@Feena: It depends on what you're looking for in a game. I will admit, Star Fox 64 isn't my favourite game, but I liked it. I somewhat enjoyed Assault, but I don't think it was a good game, and I don't even consider Adventures as a Star Fox game. Zero is another reboot, which is fine, but it still has the cheesy 90s dialogue, and I don't mean that in a good way. It's just all very bland, there's no interaction between the characters. The graphics aren't the best, the environments look pretty empty (the desert looked pretty good though), since the Wii U has to render two screens at the same time. I don't mind motion controls if they're implemented right, but I couldn't get used to them. People told me that you need to learn the controls, but I played through the game, and I still felt as if I was stumbling through the game. I still get confused by the controls. That's not a good sign. Then again, the game's really short, only a few hours. I don't like the fact that you need to pay attention to two screen either, it just doesn't feel natural. I paid €60 for the game, so I definitely regret it.

If you can find a cheap copy for 10 bucks, go ahead and try it. Maybe you'll like it, some people do, but I couldn't stand it. It just feels like a cheap tech demo to me.

@Octane: Well, it's a pretty grim picture you paint...I'll pick it up just if it's REALLY cheap then, thank you!

i've only bought five games this year - the division, ratchet & clank, uncharted 4, titanfall 2 and CoD:IW/CoD:MWR. of those, i'd probably regret TF2 the most.. it's not that i really regret it, and it's not a bad game, it's just exceedingly average imo. really fluid mechanics in search of a better game. i've actually found this gen to be terribly uninteresting for the most part.. so i haven't been as wasteful this gen as i was in the last, though i still do have a few PS4 games i bought and didn't start/finish. arkham knight was a major disappointment last year, the batmobile was shoe-horned in way too often, i didn't really like it - the traversal around gotham wasn't nearly as enjoyable as arkham city, so i eventually lost interest in it. same with far cry 4.. i really enjoyed FC3 last gen, then 4 felt like the same game with an even less sensible story, so lost interest in that too.

and GTA V.. rockstar may be able to build entertaining worlds with a boatload of stuff to do in them, what they can't seem to do is fluid/slick control schemes. i should have learned from GTA IV which had abysmal controls.. it has to be among the worst third person aiming/shooting controls i've ever encountered.

@Feena: I know. And I wanted the game to be good, I don't think it is unfortunately. I'm that weird guy that prefers the motion controls on Splatoon, or the Wiimote controls in Pikmin. I like the stupid touch things you do in Tearaway Unfolded and Infamous SS, but I couldn't get used to Star Fox Zero. So yeah, maybe you'll like it, but for me it failed in almosy every department.

The Witcher 3. Not because it's a bad game, but because I bought it near launch and haven't played it yet. Now there's a complete edition and cheaper than I bought, which kinda frustrates me. Same with Fallout 4. Bought it last year, but haven't played it. Now I found it REALLY cheap and regret that I didn't wait more...
Lesson learned (hopefully). Buy games when you have the time to play them or wait for a sale.

Shadow of Mordor - The nemesis system was really cool, but the gameplay was a chore. It played like a marginally better Assassin's Creed, which makes it roughly equivalent to being marginally better than lupus.

Metal Gear Rising - Dumb spin-off that should never have made it past "Hey, wouldn't it be funny if..." drunken banter during a Konami office party.

Vanquish - The game rocked my socks but my PlayStation 3 obviously saw me having too much fun and promptly committed suicide before I made it out of the first few levels, thus rendering the game useless to me thanks to the lack of backwards compatibility on PS4.

The Evil Within - You know that bizarro world episode of Seinfeld where there's a group of people who are just like Jerry, Elaine, Kramer and George? Well The Evil Within is like a bizarro world Resident Evil 4, where video games were created not to delight, but as educational tools to teach children that life sucks.

Watch Dogs - It was like the game was designed by a committee to tick every popular box in gaming except the one marked 'fun'. Open world, tacked on multiplayer, collectathon nonsense with a cast of characters about as charming as a National Front march.

@johncalmc: I still think Vanquish is the best shooter ever made, but you can even consider it the true PS3 killer app, both metaphorically and literally. I'd surely buy a remastered Vanquish; would you risk your PS4 for it?

Praise the Sun, and Mario too.

@KratosMD: After last year I stopped buying new games for consoles.
I only buy games new for my 3DS because, realistically, that's where I spend most of my gaming time.
Now there's some really good deals coming too, so I'll be catching up with the releases of this year.

My biggest regret buying was in 1992 when I was a wee nipper. I'd been saving up pocket money and chore money to buy Elite on the NES as I really wanted it. It was close to full price and it was taking me ages to save. Anyway, I went to Toys R Us and saw Solar Jetman at a price that I could buy right there and then. Greed of getting a new game today rather than in a few more weeks time got the better of me and I bought it (despite warnings from my parents).

Of course, I got the game home and for an 8 year old, it was hard as nails. I couldn't last a few minutes in it, I hated it and was super upset. In the end, I was able to get most of my money back and had to make up the rest and buy Elite (which I loved). I learnt an important lesson there - sometimes you have to wait for what you really want then take what you can get right now.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

@Rudy_Manchego: Ugh that was the most horrible feeling in terms world as a kid haha. Thank goodness it only happened once to me after that if I wasn't sure about a game I just rented it from my local video store.

In recent years, I can't say I regretted buying any game as such. There are a few games that I don't think justified the cost I spent on them at the time but I don't 'regret' buying them. What I 'regret' is not waiting for the price to drop more than the actual game itself. Of course for some, these games may be worth every penny they spent.

I have fewer regrets buying Aliens: Colonial Marines than I do for something like MGS4 because of the costs involved. I paid less than £5 for Aliens (brand new, Ltd edition) and despite its many flaws, was more entertaining and fun for me than MGS4 which I paid full price for and despite countless attempts at playing, has bored me within the first hour every time. I can't deny the visual quality and production value of MGS4 but something I have never progressed beyond the first hour in (most of that was sat watching rather than playing) at that price was a bigger regret than spending a few £'s on a game I had little expectations of. I don't regret buying MGS4 even though it hasn't provided me with a game I enjoyed - at least I was able to make my own opinion of it rather than blindly believing others.

The same is true for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. In my opinion, this is one of (if not) the worst games in the franchise - at least as far as the MP goes. The Advanced Movement on itself is not the issue but the way it impacts on the flow and feel of the experience is. Having played Titanfall before, I believed that the movement, if implemented well, could enhance the game-play and move the franchise forward into the next generation - something fans had been asking for as the traditional 'Boots on the Ground' was getting rather stale. Lets be honest here, a lot were mocking CoD for releasing the 'same game every year' - even though there was a distinct different 'feel' between a Treyarch and Infinity Ward game. I paid for the Atlas Pro edition - the most expensive version and barely played the MP by comparison to other CoD's inc Black Ops 3. The campaign though was good. I don't regret buying it as such but I do regret the price I paid in hindsight...

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

@Tasuki: I know- but it is an important lesson to learn as a kid!

Instead of rentals I had lots of friends who loads more money then me so I used to play test the games they bought before purchase. One of the few advantages of being one of the poorer kids in school!

@Rudy_Manchego: Agree, as I said it only happened to me once lol. Yeah I exactly didn't have to many games when I was a kid either mostly got games on my birthday and Christmas. I did get money for doing chores around the house but that usually went to stuff like action figures. Lucky for me my parents agree to renting me a game for the weekend as long as I had a good week at school so that's how I played most of the games during the 8 and 16 bit era.
