It's been talked about since the system first launched...does anyone know if the Friday the 13th game is still in the works, or chopped? The saddest part, is back in the PS3 days, when there was an advertisement for a Child's Play game coming out on the PS3...playing as Chucky and murdering people...no word for a long time, found out that was cancelled, and was a shame. Was ashamed again when Mortal Kombat X came out...Jason as a player, but no Freddy who appeared in the previous title (again, would have been nice to pit Freddy Versus Jason)...then I hear about a Friday the 13th title, where you play as Jason Vorhees...see videos, even on this site, and get excited...but then...nothing. Anyone know if it's still in the works???

From what I have heard it's still in the works. They have been adding a bunch of new stuff so I believe that's the reason for the delay. They have a Facebook page and a twitter account where you can follow them.

Thanks, I'll have to look into it. Was a shame about the Chucky Child's Play game (don't know what the reason of canning that was). Hopefully, if the Friday the 13th game does good, we'll also get a good Nightmare On Elm Street one...imagine playing as Freddy and being able to use all sorts of tools to bring the nightmares to life...like turning someone into a cock roach, or playing marionette with them using their tendons?@Tasuki

@JLPick Yeah I don't remember the Chucky game to be honest. In truth I'd rather see a game based on the Halloween Franchise. Poor Michael Meyers doesn't get any love, it's always about Jason or Freddy. Heck the only Halloween game that every came out was for the Atari.

@Tasuki Michael Myers has appeared in Call of Duty - He was a playable character in the DLC Map Fog as a random reward for completing a Field Order. Trouble is with these type of characters is that they don't have much scope for development. They are also limited to melee based attacks and to be true to their films, they need to be attacking characters that you wouldn't necessarily want to play as and often quite shallow.

The main thing that makes Friday the 13th more 'viable' as a video game over Halloween is really the setting - an isolated 'Camp' and I do think this game is 'Evolve' without weaponry or a 'chance' to hunt/kill the 1. I guess you could use Jason, Mike or Freddy in an Alien: Isolation style game where they stalk an area (obviously not a space ship) as some unkillable monster although I do think the Alien has more 'threat' - unless you keep falling over if you run... Freddy has more 'personality' than the others but is really limited to 'dreams' so incorporating that could make for some interesting settings but I think makes it more difficult to come up with a 'game' concept. The other two are more suited to a 'Slenderman' type scenario.

Its taking longer than anticipated because the developers opted to build a Single Player - relatively late into the development as well as develop the game beyond their initial concept.

“We want everyone to be assured that coming to our decision to delay was no easy matter, but we believe that the positives far outweigh the negatives,” said Wes Kelter, co-founder of Gun Media, in a release. “We've been reading day in and day out on our social media feeds that single player and Tommy Jarvis were in such a demand that we couldn't ignore our fans. After securing funding, we're here to tell you that it is a reality and we're making this game even bigger. It sucks that there's a delay, but the wait won't be too long and it's going to offer more for fans in the long-run!”

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Yeah the game is coming it was delayed to include a story mode.
The game looks rather interesting, looks like a more fun version of Evolve.

I actually liked Evolve, and didn't understand the hate for it...reminded me of a Godzilla-type-Jurassic Park-type-Alien game, and it was fun to be the monster and attack people...just got a little old after a while, but still, not that bad of a game. Really looking forward to the Friday game, as I'm still playing the Nightmare On Elm Street game on the NES (sorry to say, the Friday game on there annoyed me with the constant music), but the Freddy game was fun...but that could also be because I'm a bigger Freddy fan than Jason...but Jason is my second fave. It's still a shame about the Chucky game though.@Bread-Not-Toast

A Halloween game could be fun, but could also get receptive, and I see you're point in the camp atmosphere for Jason. Freddy could definitely be fun though in a big dream world with nightmares...but I couldn't see how something like that could end, unless it was characters battling Freddy like an Until Dawn-type game. One that would be really fun, would be Hellraiser, something on the form of Dante's Inferno. I'm also patiently waiting for a revival of the Evil Dead games...at least the 3 (PS1 and PS2 titles) to be remastered...but still awaiting Ducktales 2 and Chip and Dale to be remastered too.@BAMozzy

@JLPick Yeah - the isolated Camp setting is most likely to have vulnerable prey with no real weaponry etc. Halloween is set mostly in Surburbia and whilst there maybe some vulnerable people, their is more chance that weaponry would be more easily obtainable and then you also have police, FBI and maybe even Army involvement. I know Police etc 'could' be involved in the summer camp setting but a more remote and isolated setting where mobile phones have no signal can be easily cut off and far less likely to have an Arsenal to at least try to defend yourself.

Freddy, and the fact he can only attack in your dreams, does open up a lot of possibilities for settings but as a game, I don't know. Unless you play as Freddy, how would playing a Character work? Try to drink lots of Red Bull and not fall asleep? Try to run until you find a way to wake yourself up or one of your friends manages to wake you?? To me it seems much harder to make a film based game on the concept of Nightmare on Elm Street - Probably why we haven't seen one...

@JLPick I remember the NES game Nightmare on Elm Street, it was one of my and my frIends favorite games to play together especially with 4 people. IIRC we even beat it once or twice.

As for a remaster of Ducktales 2 and Chip N Dale, I don't think it will happen due to the announcement of the Disney Afternoon Collection, especially with all the extras that collection will have.

I think the real reason we're not seeing a nightmare film, is due to Robert England being the fan favorite among freddy...and the remake was so messed up in everything that was done (even with the director never seeing one of the films before). There is another one in the makes, with Robert playing the 'older' freddy, but then that was pushed after Wes Craven's death...which the originals were put in memory of him, and his son doesn't want to give up the rights...which is why another Nightmare hasn't been made. We haven't even really gotten a new Friday movie since Jason X, as the remake was known as just a remake (even though it technically wasn't). Even Halloween only got remakes, but there is rumors flying around that a new Halloween is being made that takes place after part 6 in the franchise (which could confuse many people). Other than that, I do agree with many that if the original characters or directors don't want to do any more, don't push them. Robert is Freddy, so if he doesn't want to do it anymore, close the series...same would go with Chucky's voice. Halloween and Friday can continue, but for how long before people get bored...maybe waiting 4-5 years for a new one after each launch would help better. I'd also love to see the Cryptkeeper come back, but that's unlikely. Many horror icons came from the 80's, and are now lost (with the exception of Michael, which came from the late 70's and Norman Bates coming from the 60's...longer than that with books). Honestly, I hope we keep it the way it is, and create new horror icons...keep the ones in our memories in the past for us, create new for the newer generations.@BAMozzy

@JLPick I know the history of the films and watched them around the time they released. I am not some 'kid'. The point I was making was how these films, the set-up and premise of them, their iconic characters wouldn't necessary work as well in a 'game' adaptation. Robert Englund will always be Freddy to me. Mike Myers and Jason Vorhees can easily be replaced as they are quite 'faceless' with their masks.

Aside from doing something 'different', for example like a 'horror' based fighting game (like Injustice did with DC characters) where you can pit Freddy against Jason or Mike Myers against 'Scream, I can't see how a 'Halloween' or Nightmare on Elm Street video game would actually work and work well. Friday the 13th and its summer camp setting can work because of its more isolated setting and the fact that the people attending a 'camp' are more likely to be vulnerable teens. Its not that dissimilar from Alien and Alien Isolation where an isolated setting (on board a space ship) with vulnerable people (not military and not armed) have a monster on the loose. Having Jason as a constant threat whilst the vulnerable teens try to find away to escape the camp by working together to complete objectives and try to avoid Jason makes sense as a video game. Halloween is a bit of a push with its suburban setting - hardly isolated. Freddy attacks people in their dreams, where dreamt injuries would manifest in reality, so how do you set-up a game where the character is asleep? Of course you break from the setting and rules that these films dictated but then are they being true to their origins?

If you look at Nightmare on Elm Street for example as a film, there is a lot of the film that's set in the real world, where the characters are trying not to fall asleep. It uses the normality to fool the viewer into thinking the character is awake when they are dreaming. This allows them to lull the audience into a false sense of security, thinking their characters are safe. As the film goes on, you are always on edge because you are never sure if they are dreaming or awake and therefore whether they are safe or not. Its far more difficult to do this to a player controlled character. You can't have them falling asleep whilst say walking down the stairs, running about the house etc. In the film, it was things like being so tired that when they were sat at their school desk listening to a teacher drone on, they fell asleep giving Freddy his opportunity. I don't see it working well as a game or at least doing the film justice - but that doesn't mean I can't see 'Freddy' in a game at all... Just not one necessarily based on the films and the rules they had.

I can see a game like 'Friday the 13th' being expanded so that these iconic characters (Freddy, Mike Myers etc) are 'skins', even have their own different stats and the 6 people maybe have different objectives to change up the game-play - in a similar vein to Evolve with its different monsters and hunters. That way it won't get 'stale' - always playing as Jason or always having to complete the same set of objectives. You could also make new maps based on some of the Iconic settings - like an Elm Street Map.

Anyway I am yet again moving beyond the initial point of my post - which was to say that as games, I can't see these films working and doing them justice. It wasn't about the films, their history or potential future but from a purely gaming perspective...

Sorry if the statement came out the wrong way...wasn't calling you a 'kid', was agreeing and talking back with you, not against you. Other than that, I wouldn't want to see Michael Myers in a game (or even in another movie)...to me, I never really cared for the Halloween films in general, and never found the character interesting...unlike Jason (at least from the 3rd film), having the hockey mask made him look a little more terrifying due to the darkness around the eyes. The Chucky game, I believe, was to be something like the SAW games, which I wasn't expecting it to be great, but since I liked Child's Play, I was looking forward to it...same went with the NES's Nightmare On Elm Street Game, but that one had a somewhat good idea...play in the real world, fall asleep after a while to go into the dream world...something like that could work again, especially entering the dream world of each character (something like an Until Dawn atmosphere), where the player plays each character and tries to survive...like an episodic game, with each character being an episode.

Other than that, didn't mean for the last statements to come out making it seem like I was arguing with you or calling you a 'kid', so sorry for that confusion!@BAMozzy

Anyone play the yet? At a $40 price tag it's almost tempting to pick up but I want to hear or read some reviews first. @get2sammyb @ShogunRok any chance of a review coming up the next few days for this?
