Topic: So PS3 Store Payments To Be Stopped

Just got an email regarding purchases from the Vita or PS3 27th October you'll no longer be able to add funds using a credit/debit card or PayPal when using either console.

I assume that means the store will no longer be getting any new content not like it did got years anyway, so instead of shutting it down you just won't be able to buy stuff off it directly. Email says mobile app or website to buy new stuff personally it would be far better to just go buy 2nd hand at this point, which I have been doing since they first announced they were going to ***** it down until they 360ed

That’s exactly the same day my neighborhood Tesco closes forever.
Coincidence? I think not.

@Nakatomi_Uk Nintendo did something similar with the 3DS and Wii U in Japan. But you could still use eshop credit to buy games on there.

I'm fine with this as long as PSN credit remains a viable method for making purchases.

I got this email today. I honestly thought they had stopped it ages ago around the same time Nintendo stopped theirs. Using my card directly on PS3 hasn't worked for me in years which is why I assumed it had happened. I've been getting the top up cards anyway though as it saves a but of money

And you also own a PS3?

Interesting...

This topic has inadvertently uncovered a Tesco PS3 conspiracy!

Anyway yeah, I can only use pre-paid PSN credit on my account, as Sony just stopped recognising my card details one day. No good reason for it, just blocked it. Weird.

Not related, but related to the conspiracy. I just see one of my local co ops is closing down and being replaced with an M&S. The slow gentrification of my area continues!

We already have a micro pub, a Costa, a vape shop, a hipster hairdresser for men (not sure if I can call it a barbers) and halls for the local drama college. At least hipsters don't stab people (I think) so that could be better but prices will skyrocket as a result

So before people start with the "oh no sony what are you doing" Nintendo is doing the same thing with the 3ds because the 3ds and the ps3 run with outdated internet parameters and there are security problems. And is not that easy to say "well why not updating?" Because we are talking about particular system architectures and money they don't want to spend, i mean they (3ds and ps3) arent even compatible with 5ghz routers and that's a problem older than the new internet security methods. So ... If you want to buy in those stores you can just buy prepaid.

@dudeAmarillo Well yeah, the security protocols are so bad on these things that my DS Lite just never ever could connect to my router even back in the late 2000s.

@kyleforrester87 My Spar actually turned into a Co-Op/Scotmid about 10 years ago. It’s true though, you’ll find a Spar in mainland Europe and north of the border but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one down south.

@nessisonett there's spars knocking about in England. I'd say they are few and far between, Ive seen a couple straight soars but normally they are petrol garages. I've also seen one on a military base I did some IT work at some years ago

@ralphdibny @nessisonett @kyleforrester87 Had a Spar as my nearest shop when I was growing up. Always got the super cheap nasty Spar own brand cider.

Then they changed owners and they were always seemed suspicious of me, even though I had a valid ID. They tried catching me out by asking the gentleman being served if he knew if I was over 18. Except that was my Dad, who obviously vouched me and wrote a letter to Spar complaining.

And no, don't seem to see many Spar shops in my area. Think there are a couple of Nisa shops and a little Co-op store that I can think of.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

How is Spar in the UK? In the Netherlands they're known as the most overpriced supermarket. They're mostly limited to small city supermarkets and camping supermarkets. There used to be one a few blocks away from where I live, but it was mostly visited by elderly people who couldn't be arsed to walk to the next nearest supermarket, and they probably had to spend their pension on something. The store went out of business about a year ago.

The Spar near me is proper bleak. Sandwich selection is poor and overpriced. I don't think I've ever been in there for anything other than a sandwich or a crate of lager. It's rough.
