Ps3 is freezing randomly during gta 5 and god of war 3 wont go pass first scene. I have put it into safe mode and rebuilt data base and also restore file system still samething constantly. Is there anything i can look at?

Could be an overheat issue - I see you live in Aus, pretty hot there right now?! - give it a clean out if you can and increase airflow around the system to see if that helps. If it's a hardware fault you're into trouble shooting which could be more hassle than it's worth. Good luck!

If it's freezing I suggest a nice wool sweater.

Seriously though it could be the lens going out.

Hmm, is it just disc based games, or digital too?

If you can play only digital fine, then you might need a new PS3 Blu-Ray Drive.

Slow or unstable internet can cause the PS3 hardware to freeze periodically if it's connected to the interwebs. You might want to disable the system's internet connection and see if that helps.

Its just disc based games, don't have any downloaded content on it, wonder if I should just get a new one and nevermind trying to fix it at this point

You just need the PS3's Blu-Ray Disc Drive replaced then, it shouldn't cost you more than $60-$80. What PS3 model do you have?

Trust me it's alot easier and cheaper than buying another PS3, they're out of print now and expensive.

@ToddlerNaruto Unless of course @Fearme is uncomfortable with doing it himeslf. Besides PS3's aren't that much and you can also find used ones so it's not like they are impossible to find.

If you don't have any non disc content on it you cant say for sure it's the disc drive. Try and download a demo for a game you have on disc that crashes. If the demo works it might point toward the disc drive.

Still, "beyond economical repair" springs to mind. Depends how handy you are and if you have the spare time to play with it, knowing it might not turn on at all once you're finished!

I wouldn't suggest spending money on parts unless you're certain of the fault, or you'll be throwing good money after bad. Unless you enjoy tinkering and learning about that sort of thing, in which case it's money well spent.
