Topic: I'm preparing to attempt my first HDMI port replacement on a PS3.

I've been gathering up the necessary equipment but i need some advice before i start. I've never done anything like this before but I've been studying videos on YouTube on the subject and i think i could probably figure it out. I saw some people using a heat gun. Are those really needed or will a simple soldering iron suffice?

Any other tips you could give me would be welcome.

have you looked at some ps3 hdmi converters on amazon as an easy solution ?

otherwise , sorry . i’m not privy to tech repairs .

Either that or have a word with your local PC repair shop - the one near me does all kind of PS repairs.

Well i tried it myself and I'm learning the hard way i was not prepared. First i couldn't get the solder to melt. Then the anchor points on the board got kinda damaged cause i was struggling to get the stuff to liquefy. I got frustrated and ended up having to ripp off the hdmi port. I'm wondering if the whole board is ruined now. Am i screwed or do you think there's a chance it'll still work?

nobody knows , take it to a tech repair if you can’t fix it or just get an hdmi converter

Probably a dumb question but if any of the tiny port holes that the hdmi port plugs into are slightly damaged it's not gonna work right? I guess i should have used a heat gun. If nothing else i suppose i could get a replacement motherboard if it came to that.

I know just buying a new ps3 all together would have been easier but i wanted to see if i could do this myself. I needed to learn how to solder anyway.

@Truegamer79 if you think it's already beyond repair and it's a write off then you might as well keep going and practicing on this repair right? It's no loss if you think it's already failed and it might actually surprise you and work!

I can't help technically with this repair but it sounds like you want to give up because you think you've failed. But if you are ready to chuck it all away, you might as well see the repair through to the end and see if it works because you don't lose anything if you've already resigned yourself to throwing it away anyway.

Best case scenario, it works! Worse case scenario, you learn some stuff for the next time you want to try something like this.

See ya!

Yeah I'll probably try to get the hdmi port finally put in place and put it back together and see what happens. If nothing else at least I'll have more experience with this soldering thing. I've been kinda wanting to learn how for a long time anyway.
