Topic: Why can't I play my digitally downloaded titles from PS4 on new PS5?

I recently bought a PS5, and followed instructions to migrate all my PS4 games to my PS5 during PS5 setup. I believe I did this correctly. All of my disc games appear to have migrated successfully, but only a few of my digitally downloaded titles still work.

The following digitally downloaded games are available from my Games menu, but won’t play. When I select these games I’m only given the option to re-purchase them:

  • Night in the Woods
  • Stardew Valley
  • Undertale
  • Unravel
  • Defense Grid 2
  • Dirt Rally 2.0
  • Firewatch
  • Journey
  • Hohokum
  • What Remains of Edith Finch

Two games migrated completely, and play properly:

  • Inside
  • Stray
I have tried restoring licenses, but this has made no difference.

Is there anything I can do about this? Is this normal and expected? Why is this happening?

@Stumpus Did you purchase the games under the same PSN account that you are now using on the PS5?

If you did, as a test it might be worth deleting one of the smaller ones then redownloading it from your library to see if that works.

I am using the same PSN account that I used on the PS4, yes.

I tried deleting Journey, as you suggested. Now it no longer appears in my "installed" list of games, but still appears in my "Your Collection" list of games. It is still not playable, and I'm not clear how I can get the game to download again without purchasing it.

Thank you for the suggestion, I appreciate all help.

Well it's normal that a game not currently installed is in the Your Collection section and not Installed. If you go to that game, press X, does it not say install? What about if you click on the "..." button?

I am not offered Install. The "..." button just offers me "Follow" and "Health / Ratings / Privacy / Terms"

The screen knows about my progress and awards.

I can do screenshots if that's helpful, just let me know.

Sounds like this might be something Sony customer service will have to help with. You could try private messaging them on Twitter for, typically, a faster response than email. But email them as well as they might ignore Twitter messages.

I talked to Sony support and resolved my issue. I can now play all my PS4 downloaded games on my PS5.

The problem was the games were installed with a different PSN account than my own - my wife has done most of that purchasing on the PS4 and so were under her account. It has been a few years since these purchases were made and I forgot all about the fact that there were two accounts.

Thanks to those that offered assistance, I deeply appreciate it.
