My playstation 4 slim has fallen into the blue light of death. I don't think I can go till the end of november for the next gen consoles to come out. Playstation support is literally impossible to reach. Does anyone know if I can take the hard drive out of my current PS4 slim and put it into a new/used one if I bought one? I see articles that are 4-5 years old saying I cant because you couldn't with the ps3, but nothing that is definitive. (repair mode does nothing. my playstation will not boot into normal mode. I also only get one boot attempt per plug in. After each failed boot I have to unplug and plug back in for it to attempt and fail again.)

If the current hard drive in your PS4 slim is in fact dead. Just buy a 2.5 Inch hard drive like this one here. https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-BarraCuda-Internal-Drive-2-5-I...

At that point you would remove your dead hard drive and install the new one. At that point you will have to reinstall the PS4 software by using a USB thumb drive. Just follow this URL it will tell you how to do it https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/system-updates/ps4/

I'll be back in 5 mins. If not just read this message again.

Their PS4 is dead not their hard-drive. They're asking if it's possible to transfer their save data from their internal hard-drive into a new PS4 by replacing the new PS4's hard-drive with the old one.

Assuming your old hard drive is good when you put it in the new PS4 it will be re-formatted and you will then have to reinstall the PS4 operating system.
