Topic: PS4 Slim Disk Drive Dead?

Our PS4 has stopped accepting and reading disks. Won't eject either. Opened up the PS4 and inspected the disk drive. Everything looks fine including the roller system. According to the videos I watched even without a disk in the unit the laser carriage should move on power up. But it doesn't. Can insert disks manually using the eject screw and still no spin or read. Nothing about the disk drive seems to work at all. No laser, no feed, no spin, nothing. I unplugged and reconnected the ribbon cables, no change.

So now I'm debating on buying a disk drive or an entire new PS4. I find it hard to believe the laser carriage and feed system both died at the same exact time. Anyone else have this issue, or any ideas?

If you press the eject button and it beeps but will not accept discs or eject an already inserted disc the there is a fuse that has gone on the motherboard. If this is not the case then a new disc drive will resolve your problem. They are available on ebay for around £40 pre-owned. Just be sure to but the correct model for your model of PS4.

Theres nothing wrong with the disk drive or fuse. We found out today it was update 7.50 that bricked it. There's posts all over Reddit and a few articles about 7.50 causing big problems. Some machines end up in a boot loop, and on other machines like my sons it kills the disk drive. Still no word from Sony if its something a patch will fix or not.

This problem comes from update 7.02, back in december, and there where many forums in the sony oficial but they shut down their forums, there are many more in redit where they are adding their sopport code number because when you call customer support they say they dont have any reports of it and you have to send it in for repair for 150$. this is a big problem that sony is just turning their back at and we are very badly affected by this and no posible fix. its an error in the update code where it just turns off the disc drive, it detects it and knows its there, it just wont send any signal for it to start working. if you reset the ps4 back to factory with no updates it starts working again, but you cant log in or download anything because the updates are mandatory.
