Topic: PS4 Pro Fan absurdly loud

Had a PS4 Pro for a few months now, but noticed the fan is now absurdly loud, and was since literally a month after purchase. This happened with my original PS4 so as soon as I bought the Pro I had taken the recommended measures by Sony to prevent a loud fan, I.E. away from walls and elevated on something that does not conduct heat. And still the issue occurs. However, it is extremely loud on many games, but not all. For some reason, it seems as though it is louder on games more recently downloaded. For instance, I can play Red Dead 2 and the fan is completely silent, but as soon as I start Minecraft, Enter the Gungeon, or similar games that should put LESS strain on the console, the fan goes LOUDER. Sony do say that on some games the fan will be loud, however I’ve seen them specifically state that it is only “temporary”, when it happens constantly on almost every game I play now. Furthermore, other applications like YouTube or Netflix made no noise, but now make a considerable amount. And I clean the dust off of the console every week, with which there is not an extreme amount each time. I am at my wit’s end with what to actually do. Any suggestions or tips at all? Really anything would hopefully help. I have also rebuilt the PS4’s database, as apparently that helps with performance, and it did nothing.

My PS4 Pro is also getting louder I think...I was just playing Maneater (Thanks Sammy btw) and the game is not even that good visually but it made my fan go crazy loud

@AFCC im having same problems, my ps4 pro has got so loud i cant stand to play it. Is there any fix to this? I have cleaned it, turned down resolution, rebuilt database. Nothing helps, i guess the only solution is to play with a headset. I hope ps5 doesn't have these issues.

It is crazy. Honestly I just want a PS5 now so I can play these games at a normal volume again.

@ellsworth004 Ghost of Tsushima produces a lot less fan noise if you set it to performance mode rather than visual mode.

Noticed that some games seem to produce a lot of fan noise whereas others barely anything at all.

Games like the Elder Scrolls Online is mostly quiet, and a tad louder if you use the 4K mode as opposed to the 1080 Enhanced mode.

Games that really go nuts are Everybody's Golf, especially if you user 4K or 60FPS modes - sounds like the Pro is going into meltdown! Some of the PS+ games like Mass Effect and Star Wars: Battlefront II just send the fan into overdrive and the racket becomes unbearable!

Personally, i think it comes down to how well (or badly) the game has been coded because as soon as you close the fan-intensive game, the Pro slows down the fans and goes near silent.

@Ryall yeah i did that, its really not that loud at all especially compared to sekiro. I have to play that game with a headset.

@Ryall I have it in the visuals mode and the fan isn't loud at all for me. Standard noise

Well this is the PS4 (and Pro) for you. Intensive games will make it fly. Nothing you can do. Also the factory thermal paste is terrible and sometimes it is even misplaced and it does not cover the whole chip.

Let's hope PS5 is better. I mean waaaaaay better.

However you can still try to get one of the latest revisions of the PS4 Pro. They are little better in terms of noise even in the Map menu in God of War
