Topic: Noob alert

Hi all,

I apologise if this has been asked before but I'm new here and could do with some help.

A few years ago I bought a PS4 and a copy of GTA5 but because I was working so much, I didn't have time to play with it, so I only used the PS4 for watching DVDs and my daughter played Minecraft with it offline.

Now I'm stuck in lockdown I'm desperate for something to occupy me so I dusted off the PS4 and started playing GTA5 offline.

Gotta say, I love it, it's so addictive.

Anyway, the more I play, the more I'm wondering if I can play online with it. Can I assume there's a setup somewhere in the box that will enable this?

I've also been told that you can play Fortnite for free if you connect the PS4 online. Is this true? If so, will I have to pay a monthly subscription just to connect the PS4?

I'd like to find out what all the fuss is about with Fortnite, although I know I'm very late to the party.

I'd be glad of any help.

@CleverTrevor You will need to connect your PS4 to your router either wirelessly or via cable (depending on if your router is nearby). This is fairly easy to do through the settings on your console.

HOWEVER, to play most games online you’ll need a PS+ subscription which you can buy a month or year subscription to.

HOWEVER 2, I believe some of the free to play online games like Fortnite can be done without PS+ so you can play that but not GTA online.

I already have Sims4 and SimCity subscriptions for PC, I guess that won't get me anywhere online with the PS4 will it?

Just out of interest, how much is PS+ for a year?

@CleverTrevor Currently £50 for 12 months or £20 for 3 months.

I tend to renew around November/December when they give out discounts for Black Friday as renewing before it expires adds another 12 months onto the end of your current subscription.

@CleverTrevor If you are looking to sub to PS+, get them off Shopto. 12 months is currently £39.85, 3 months is £16.85 and 1 month is £6.85. The code is emailed to you, I always use them and highly reccomend them.
