Topic: LAN cable not connected message

I just recently purchased a second hand PS4 on Ebay from a very nice seller after my old one had hard drive issues. When i started up the new one the message "LAN cable not connected" or something of that nature even though an Ethernet cable is connected. I am using the same Ethernet cable i had been using with the old PS4 and had no problems with this at all.

Even though it comes up with this message right after i log into my PS4, i can still use the internet and play online games without any problems, so far. I have noticed though, with the "new" second hand PS4 the download and upload speeds are a little lower than what i normally got with my old one, but again, haven't found this to be a problem.

Any helpful suggestions?

@rikstar2019 Did you factory reset the PS4 when you purchased it? Started it in Safe Mode, selected "Initialise PS4" and let it rebuild from scratch?

If not, the previous owner might've had a faulty connection, and the PS4's just got a hangover. If you're still getting a connection through your cable despite the warning, then it's clearly not a problem with the console itself, nor your internet gubbins. I suspect initialising the console would wipe any memory of a prior fault, and you'd stop seeing the error pop up.

Thanks for the reply RogerRoger. It would seem as though the problem was a faulty ethernet cable. Even though i had been using the same cable with my old ps4, it must have been damaged somehow during the time when my old ps4 died. Bought a new one and straight away all connection speeds back up to where they should be.

@rikstar2019 Ah, fair enough! Glad you got it sorted in the end; happy gaming!
